Because lawfulness of an arrest is determined by the courts, not the arresting officer or the person being arrested. There's literally no other way it can work. The solution is to fire cops who keep making bad arrests.
Agreed. Remember a few years back they wound up shooting and killing a guy because "They thought his cellphone was a gun." The camera just so happened to mess up at that part. Later it was revealed they were planning on altering the scene in there favor.
Looking for a reason to hate all cops everywhere? This is it. The fact that their PD failed to charge these scumbags with a crime tells you that their whole PD is rotten, top to bottom.
That’s just a dumb idea… technology isn’t perfect. No matter how hard you try. This idea opens up a whole slew of issues that can’t be solved. So if a camera stops working mid arrest due to technological malfunctions… the suspect should just be… let go? Say the suspect knows this law and intentionally smashes/breaks the camera…. What then? Do they get off free? You can SAY ‘only if an OFFICER turns it off’. But that opens up another set of issues. It’s almost impossible to actually tell if it’s intentionally turned off or not and a cop could say they accidentally hit it. So then you’d have a suspect who got off free because it was off and then an unsolvable case about an officer turning it off. So that’s two criminals who get to walk free… Any more bright ideas armchair law maker?
"The police investigated themselves and found no wrongdoing." The fact that they unironically state this is literal insanity. No person, orginsation or other entity should be allowed to police itself.
@@YorgosL1Did you just have a stroke? What the fuck are you trying to say? That we should allow them to police themselves or that they should allow someone else to police them?
"What are you doing oh my god your heart is thumping you are making me feel threatened" You scare an innocent man, treat him like garbage and then feel threatened by his fast heartbeat, that cop deserves time in prison
It's well documented that completely innocent people will be nervous around police simply because they are arbiters of the law and believe they might have done something wrong. "You're nervous" is such a ridiculous claim
It's just mind boggling! Thank god at least bodycams are a thing now and it's getting out there so the public are seeing what's going on, but yeah the officer themselves need to be held accountable
$75K, if true, is actually not bad as compensation for this type of case. A lot of folks, especially on YT, think these are million-plus-dollar cases; they are NOT. And stipulating (i.e., agreeing) that the defendant(s) did nothing wrong is STANDARD for ALL SETTLEMENTS; *this is why you get the money UPFRONT,* without going forward with a trial. You CAN always *refuse* to settle, and go to trial, but you then take the risk of losing, in which case you will have spent a whole lot of money out of pocket (unless you were able to retain counsel on a contingency or pro bono basis, which is not always feasible) only to receive NOTHING. The bad part here is that the taxpayer foots the bill for all these settlements; they need to be paid by LEOs directly or their unions or a carrier that insures LEOs (for which LEOs, not their public entity employers, pay the premiums).
It's like complaining that no charges were brought against Auschwitz guards for hurting inmates too much. They're doing their jobs. Their jobs are to be evil. They're selected to be evil. If you're not evil, you don't get to be one.
Doing everything they can to get you in trouble lock you up and throw away the key, even if they have to lie and plant evidence to do it. Absolutely pathetic and unjust!. .
"Your heart is beating fast" oh well that's good then, how about yours? Seems awfully cold and slow and you're obviously getting no blood to the brain. Might wanna sort that with a handstand?
I'd like to know how he even determined his heart was beating fast... It's hard enough getting someone's pulse when they're standing still, let alone being dragged around by a cop.
Montrey you are exceptional. Not many adults could keep their composure and be as calm as you were during that entire assault. Good for you suing them, please keep yourself safe and away from those corrupt pigs
@@mattielucius6849 Yeah its appalling. Only Detectives should be allowed to lie imo. Because if regular cops can lie about anything then if someone asks a cop "Am I being detained" then what the cop says could be a lie, how would you know if anything a cop says is a lie or not, if you ask a cop what the law is, a cop could just make up laws that don't exist. And what I found strange was how the guy even planted weed in the first place, that means that cop had illegal weed on him already. I don't think weed should be illegal in the first place though. But I found it to be injust that the cop go no punishment for that, there should be a rule that any cop who falsely arrests someone gets the same amount of time in jail as the person they arrested, it will make them reconsider their illegal actions.
Veteran was incorrect. The law changed 1 Jan 22 "SB 792 - Disabled Veteran Plates and Parking Privileges. As of January 1, 2022, anyone parking in a disabled parking space must have a disabled person license plate or a disabled parking placard that features the International Symbol of Access (ISA). Currently, disabled veteran license plates do not feature the ISA.
*BTW, Jamal won a shit ton of money from the last example you showed and rightly so, but part of the settlement was as you can probably guess, with the PD not admitting any wrong.*
and then when all the cops turn up - no one seems to question the stop - I mean a commanding officer should have reviewed the footage and berated the officers
@@rossgeographyI think it was more then that. You could tell they were basically setting him up to put him into a resisting arrest scenario. It’s really hard to comply and step out of the car when one officer is tugging you one way, and the officer on the other side is holding you down. You could see Jamal when he pulled his phone and say okay he’s gonna record start to move on his own to comply and get out of the car, but that’s when the other officer grabs the phone arm, says he’s resisting and you basically have a tug of war situation going on. Cops do this all the time, give contradictory orders, or will do things like apply pressure on an arm, but then scream at you for not being able to put your arms behind your back, the same arm they are restraining, then they’ve got you on resisting arrest. It’s even more ridiculous when they do this on stops like this with absolutely zero pretext whatsoever because they essentially get someone for resisting an arrest when there isn’t even an underlying crime or adequate reason for them to be interacting with you in the first place. It’s easy to cheer for people getting 100s of millions in settlements across the country, and those citizens who have their rights violated should get it, but the issue is it’s our taxpayer dollars funding those settlements. I’m sure if qualified immunity wasn’t as ridiculously broad as it is, and these settlements came out of these officers pensions you would actually be able to deter this but there is no real accountability or change , just taxpayers footing the bill for our own rights being trampled while we continually also increase police budgets basically yearly
The fact that they're brazen enough to plant evidence when they know they're body cams are on and even admit to doing it on cam, says everything you want to know about these corrupt police departments they work for.

They suffer no consequences so they do what they want. It’s actually pretty frightening. They literally commit murders and get away with it 99 out of 100 times.
It's probably worse than that. The Wire kind of illustrates it in a season. They have idiotic quotas to meet, mainly for politicians to boast about. It's a lot easier to create an easy crime than to actually investigate (and solve!... hopefully) a difficult one. Oh, and the _brotherhood, warrior, fraternity mentality_ .

Sucks because street justice is one of the reasons cops have been given such wide latitude to be corrupt. They've been given the ability to figuratively and sometimes literally shoot first and ask questions later because they "may" fear someone will get the drop on them first. Cops are sometimes some of the bravest and honorable people. But sometimes they're some of the worst among us. That's how humanity is. Why should their industry be any different from any other in terms of good and bad apples all around?

Oh man, i remember being stopped by a two cop team, one was black and one was white. The entire stop they called me the C word and accused me of selling crack in the area. I literally was waiting outside an apartment complex with my friend so we could drive to the local watering hole. Ended up striking me twice, breaking 2 of my ribs, requiring hospitaliziation. a hospital bill that was $12,000 ended up going to collections, screwing up my ability to get a loan for years. I wish they had body cameras back then.
Well, it's not true. The incompetent and dishonest clown who made this video is lying. The case that was dismissed was an earlier instance where Erickson turned off his camera before "finding" a joint. The case depicted here, when the video evidence emerged, resulted in Erickson's forced resignation (which is corrupt enough, don't get me wrong, and the fact that his partner is still in service is pathetic, too). The FBI are currently investigating cases involving these officers.

We need an independent commission to oversee police abuse of power. If caught planting evidence, it should be a 10 year prison sentence. There's no way we as human beings can classify being caught with some drugs as justifying 10 years in jail while planting evidence on innocent people yields no punishment...
💯! By planting evidence, they are taking away another humans freedom and putting a mark on their record that could hurt them professionally going forward.
Why just 10 years? If you plant evidence it is you who made that choice. It is not a matter of making a mistake or something. If you plant evidence you should go to prison for life. That would be a real deterrent.
I was on the rush to a library to meet a girl. The second i got there, a police officer rode in on a motorcycle, nearly hitting me and ordered me to stop. He searched me, slapped cuffs on me and sat me down. I was then told that I matched the description of someone who broke into a car nearby. The officer ignored all my questions even after I identified myself and complied and said that I should "stop playing games". It was only after another cop came and listened to me that I was released. I was twelve years old and I was only running to meet up with a cute girl at a public library.
Laws and minimum sentencing requirements, let's say 10 years - 30 years depending on severity. Pension to be continued but paid out to charities that deal with the fallout from police corruption.
Yeah, as long as all of us allow it. I'm guilty of not doingshyt to help get corrupt cops locked up too, but, it's just facts. No way, a judge that has to get elected to get the job will choose letting corrupt cops stay on a force if the city says they want justice. Period. Especially when the cop was CLEARLY in the wrong. They'll wash his assss up. But we just don't say shyt. Because it didn't happen to us. But after the fact the cop was proven faulty, if the citizens of that area seriously wanted him/them gone, they'd be gone in a heartbeat
"You match the description..." I've heard this before. Cops surrounded me in my own neighborhood while I was on a walk. The only thing I could think was "You think I robbed a Burger King... a Burger King??"
On the first video the officer was seen (on camera) planting evidence and no charges were brought against him. It's an absolute disgrace! This despicable cop should be in prison for his despicable actions it's absurd!!!!
Even if he's not charged with planting evidence (just being biased towards the cop for the sake of this argument), how the hell does he not get charged with possession of marijuana lmao. He has to have owned it to be able to plant it. And if it was illegal for the guy he was searching to have it, how is it not illegal for the officer to have it. The double standards are so obvious it hurts.
The title of this video is "When Racist Cops Realize They've Been Arrested", and not one of them actually gets arrested. This video is 21 minutes of monetized clickbait, and I feel cheated for having watched it.

The victim was just coming from hospital, after big stomach surgery and he told the ass clowns that, to top it of. They manhandled him so much, he needed an ambulance ride right back. Then they decided to plant evidence.. because they could. Sadly, this is policing in America, this is what only 20+ weeks of training and no mental evaluations (to weed out narcissists, psychopaths & other problematic personalities) gives you. Its half of what hairstylist go thru & they dont have guns, tasers and nearly infinite authority over us peasants. This is why unarmed people die in police encounters, they have this “us or them” mentality, and them (we) dont matter. We are way past few bad apples, now most of the tree is poisoned. Be safe & always film the police! Even the smallest encounters, for citizen safety.
Ironically the same people say China and Russia are bad since they are police states are the same people who will cheer on corrupt cops here in the US.
DV plates are actually news to me. Never knew about them until right now. Thanks to qualified immunity it's really hard to get any cop held accountable for any form of corruption or injustice.
I have no criminal record and I work 50 plus hours a week. I've been harassed by the police all through out my child hood. Things like this happen in our neighborhoods so much. The police literally terrorize us.
I like how 1 cop is "get out of the car" while the other is in the passenger seat holding him down, essentially keeping him in the car. They will call it resisting arrest and they will use it as an excuse to get even more physical with the guy
2:00 You missed out that fact that Jason recently had surgery on his abdomen. He was fresh out of hospital and his wound was stitched just the other day, he told the 2 cops about it prior to getting taken down and they did not listen. This resulted in his wound opening and causing it to bleed. Lying on the ground for 20 minutes suffering in pain is horrible, those 2 cops should have had much worse charges.
That makes sense I was confused why he was taken away in an ambulance not that they didn’t cause harm to him but if he’s got a recently stitched up wound that must of been super painful! They realized very quickly they fucked up. How planting evidence isn’t a crime is beyond me. I know it technically is, but if they won’t prosecute it what good is a law?
I remember when I did ride-alongs during college as part of a criminal justice organization I was in officers did this a lot. They literally searched one guys car "in the hood" for 30 minutes looking for anything. The inside of his car was dirty and they tried to look at every crumb for a piece of drug. Only later when we were in the suburbs and they caught some kids with alcohol. They called ones parent (part of the force) to come to the scene to fix it. I never fully trusted cops after that. This was over 20 years ago and nothing has changed.
It’s videos like this one, and the fake news that create this… they watch and believe all cops are racists that are ready to kill them on the spot. Fake. But it causes fear, and fear causes irrational, and even illegal behavior leading, in this case, to Jamal’s arrest. Stop feeling bad for Jamal. Be pissed that the media spreads fear like wildfire.
I have a black cousin who grew up a bit of a trouble maker. He's out there somewhere in the world with no contact with any of his family and I think about him every day. I'm terrified that I'll hear his name on the news as just another troubled victim to society.

When you clear someone from the need to be arrested, and never did any harm during the arrest, he should also be automatically cleared of resisting arrest. These people are despicable.
A lot of cops are violent gang members sanctioned by the state, and the ones who aren't are complicit. Pretextual ego driven stops and manufactured charges probably account for 40% of the US's inmates.
That's ridiculous, then cops wouldn't arrest anyone, c'mon are you expecting them to actually catch CRIMINALS? That's scary they might get hurt. It's like you think cops should do things other than harass people and sit in parking lots eating fast food so that they can justify reporting that they worked 70 hours of overtime every week.
Well the cops didn't write the law. Cops aren't the law. The law actually gives you good protection. That's what makes these cops corrupt. If they wrote the law, this would all be lawful.
The "hes being agressive" in that last piece of footage is insane. I think everyone would be scared out of their mind when hearing that when not only are you not being agressive, you have done NOTHING to even begin with.

Absolutely horrific. Any official abusing their powers on innocent people should receive a custodial sentence. My heart goes out to all that suffer at their hands 😢
Were you listening at all? It wasn't two years in jail or a wrongful conviction. It took two years to get the case through the courts until the charges were dropped. It's still BS that the officers got away with it.
No charges brought against the officers that planted evidence?! As a former police officer myself, that is fucking disgusting. Absolutely unacceptable. In South Carolina, those guys would have been put UNDER the jail.
When were you a cop? Police unions are extremely powerful these days, and the Supreme Court has always been extremely sympathetic to police. I can’t imagine that any cop today is unaware of the fact that they can fuck somebody’s life up and get away with it.
