Something these youngsters will never understand or grasp is the fact Jordan didn't only Influence his teamates to be better but he Influenced the entire sports world to be better. Absolutely! But I think MJ would like Ja as he's kinda like from the same mold, not that he's MJ level, but the mentality. Even after retirement, in his 40s, MJ still taught some of the young ones a lesson, guys like OJ Mayo, Corey Benjamin, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, to name a few.

I’ve just never seen an athlete that could up their game like that almost every time when opponents, coaches, media, fans, etc said something negative about him. It was almost movie-like. This is the one aspect of MJ’s game that’s not really focused on like it should be-it’s actually one of the main reasons that sets him apart from all athletes no matter the sport.
@GoGetYourShinebox
@GoGetYourShinebox Год назад
To tap into that zone can't always be done consciously. Jordan realised that so at times he would find reasons to activate that next level. Sometimes he even made up stories. Jordan always performed at his absolute best when he felt he had something to prove
@jtremaine23
@jtremaine23 Год назад
@@GoGetYourShinebox True...a few years ago, Steve Kerr said had MJ played during this "media" era, he would have won 12 rings. Kerr was exaggerating (kind of lol) but people got the picture. Grew up a Pacers fan, but we had WGN on cable. I snuck watched every Bulls game broadcast. Felt like I was cheating on my team 😂 But every game, without fail, every single game he did something amazing that would be any other player's career highlight! Something I'm so glad I got to see on TV and once the man in person. He seemed even faster in person.

Cable here in NC had WGN. Not a night went by without me checking to see if the Bulls were playing. People watched their games just to see if MJ did something that would make your jaw drop. He rarely failed to disappoint. You just don't have that today. There's not that one guy where everyone talks at work the next day about, saying "Did you see what XX did last night? Damn" You have one here and there, but not the same guy, over and over and over. MJ is the GOAT, without a doubt. You could make a case for a couple of others based on their career, but nobody ever had even CLOSE to the impact not only on the court, but on fans and the world in general as Michael Jordan.

Nick, I’m a Bulls and MJ fan 1st for all time, but I live near near Indy and rooted for the Pacers, but not like I did for the Bulls. After MJ retried in 98’ Reggie would have a couple more runs, and make the Finals in 2000. Somewhere along that time Miller’s house in Indiana was burnt to the ground, and he lost everything in it. Reggie collected all things NBA, including a LOT of Michael Jordan memorabilia which I heard at the time was irreplaceable it was so extensive, and Reggie being who he is really never told anyone about what he lost, except a couple people. The GOAT heard this, and it’s said that almost every item that could be replaced was sent to Reggie by the man himself.

I'm from MJ's home town, and was a fan of his during his career (he's about six years older than I am). I played a lot of basketball over thirty years or so, and the biggest compliment I ever got was hearing one opponent say to a new teammate about me as he was talking a bunch of trash to me "Don't make him mad - he plays better when it's personal!" I can't say for sure if I'm just like that or it was inspired by MJ, but I like to think I learned something from the GOAT and was able to use it.

I went to UNC in the 90's and lived in Chapel Hill for 20+ years and MJ sightings were a regular occurrence, back then he had a custom Hummer he'd drive around. He wasn't like going out of his way to meet fans but, as a local resident, all the stories you'd hear about his interactions with locals were nothing but positive. He also was who brought Buffalo Wild Wings to Chapel Hill (primary investor), in the mid-90's, long before it became a national phenomenon
@mstunameow

Just a sidenote tho, as famous as MJ was, Dean Smith was like the holy grail of local celebs. I was at UNC during the Stackhouse, Vince Carter days, and if you were at UNC during this time it was like having our own Bulls and Michael Jordan. That UNC team was *insane*. They've had a handful of Championships since then but none of the teams equaled that team

One of the main takeaways from these MJ retrospectives is how much intelligence and strategy there is in basketball, I'd say significantly more than most other sports. Some of these players left school early and skated by on athletics, but a lot of these athletes were really smart. MJ skipped his senior year at UNC to go to the NBA but returned to UNC and graduated 1.5 yrs later in 1986

Great editing!! A thought concept I keep going to is if the Blazers would have drafted him instead… Clyde Drexler + Michael Jordan. I don’t think there would have been a better pairing of players, especially at the psych level. By all accounts Drexler was a stand up decent guy, no drama, bar fights-probably went to church. He had an inch or two on MJ, but otherwise nearly equal in athleticism. The work ethic they would have instilled, the two captains showing up at 110 every single day (vs what became the JailBlazers). The fame blew MJ’s life into pieces, but I could see Clyde being a real friend, mentor, slightly bigger brother. Their parents would be friends. They would have slayed the league for decades solid. Because Clyde was a great defender, passer-and got above the rim too. MJ would have been propelled even higher with Clyde at his side. Instead of a fierceness that defined how Michael even had against teammates, a bond of respect, ethics would be built between them. The sleepy northwest city of Portland would have blown up - year after year of hosting NBA Finals… and right in Nike’s front yard. Ultimately landing in Chicago with a national cable broadcast wound up cementing history. But damn WHAT IF…
