I reached out to a fruit tree expert to get an answer on a question I had. When should I let my potted mango trees hold fruit. I Hope you guys enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
My Carrie mango tree was in a 7 gallon and could not see myself cut the flower. It grew and held 2 🥭 last season. My first mango 🥭 from my yard and they were so Great!!!!But the tree is now lacking something and not looking that great, I definitely think it was because the amount of energy the tree took to grow the delicious mango 🥭 on such a small tree, but I have no regrets but may approach it differently in future.
Really enjoyed this post. I too am in the same zone and located in North Port. Would you be able to post a video of whenever you decide to plant your 15 gallon mango tree? I have a 15 gallon CAC mango and waiting until after this winter to plant, concerned about having to cut some of the roots prior to putting it in the ground and would like to see how someone with some experience may handle that part. I’ve watched a lot of good videos but no one has really posted one about that process.
Thank you!! I’ve heard of people cutting the roots but those were situations where the tree was severely pot bound. I have put over 20 mango trees in the ground all sizes and never had to cut the roots. I just planted two 15gal mango trees last week. The main thing I focus on when planting is getting the tree in the ground as fast as possible. I have the hole,Dirt, mulch, and water ready to go before I take the tree out of the pot. Thanks for watching 👊
@@themangovistawhat view can I take a pic of to share with you so that you can tell me if it is severely root bound? Thank you for replying to my first message.
One way to find out if it’s pot bound you can feel the roots on the outside of the pot and it’s extremely hard to remove the pot. In some cases the roots are stretching out the pot. if this is not the case, then you should be able to remove the pot then loosen up the roots with your hand at the bottom, then put it in the ground. I’m no expert, but I have seen pot bound trees before. Send pics to themangovista@gmail.com
Sounds like a big tree. It should be able to hold fruit. I have a 4ft 7Gal size tree holding fruit now. I’m doing an experiment to see if that affects the tree in anyway. Will see next season.
