I love the idea of the scrapper, I think it's genius. Sacrificing some power now for some potential greater power later. Really "risk" (forgive the pun) vs reward gameplay, which I personally love.
I also really like how its time consuming to use scrappers, so if you find a really good printer and a scrapper on the level, youre going to have to take time to run back and forth to get everything done, making the game more difficult in the process. Nothing is ever free in ror..
Other than the new, uh, dimension, ROR2 seems to offer a lot of "you get more control over this... For a price" things than ROR1. The scrapper fits into this pretty well.
Fireworks are the best item in the game, change my mind. Find a fire works printer, trade everything, free money everytime you open anything. Run through levels and get mad chests, kill boss with fireworks from teleporter. Rinse and repeat
Scrapping reds: When the Captain's Defensive Microbots respawned every stage, you would always scrap them after the teleporter event in the (admittedly slim) chance of finding a milspec printer. Its since been patched out, but *technically* it was a red that was always-scrappable.
I just commented about the same thing, wondering if I was the only one who does this😂. I agree totally, it fucks up visual clarity by a lot and that’s a big deal in such a chaotic game where you need to be able to notice enemies to do well. I’ve actually wondered if hopoo games knew this item to be a visual issue or not, or if they just keep it like that for the meme lmao. An incredibly distracting item in any case
Late game happiest mask can get you killed, seeing as void reaver explosions kill friendlies. I always scrap my masks, seeing as I don't want to get instakilled by a "friendly".
I’m loving the content and guides, these have really helped improve my runs! I have been having a little trouble with the Alloy Worship Unit lately, and I was wondering if you’d have any tips on when/how to fight it effectively. Like I said, loving the content!
If I’m doing mithrix/eclipse runs, I typically print items at stage 4/5 until I have a multiple of 3 white items so I can use those at the cauldrons on soup island. Likewise, multiples of 5 for greens, but only if I have terrible green items as there is a chance a red soup cauldron will not spawn. I never go off these multiple because having more or less scrap than these means those are wasted items.
I will often scrap Happiest Mask and the Headhunter when I'm not in the first loop because I find their benefit to be not worth the amount of visual clutter they introduce. Both of these also force you to dodge friendly attacks at times, like your own malachite puddles and vagrant explosions, which puts even more risk on you in hectic situations.
Mr. Streamer, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Always scrap all your greens except chronobobble because on the chance that you find a chronobobble printer that can make your run.
It also should bear mentioning that the Bazaar cauldrons also prioritizes Scrap and if you need those early greens or can sacrifice a bunch of greens, then you get basically a free red
Your videos have got me through the game, thank you. Started off as bad as any noob, destroyed 5 times in probably 15 minutes of play lol. Now after about 20 hours, got all the characters, working on the items, skills, commands, unlocks. Couldn't have made it this far without your knowledge, thanks for sharing brother!
I think it's important to mention that the scrapper is technically considered an item pickup, and so will not activate fireworks or squid polyps (you can see this by the fact that pinning a scrapper gives the same icon as an item or a lunar coin).
Exception for scrapping reds: If you want to use the order shrine and make it a 50/50 chance between more red scrap or whatever you were planning to dupe.
I think there’s a reasonable case to make for scrapping certain red items if, and only if, they actively conflict with your play style. For example, if you find the altered jumping mechanics with head stomp annoying, and see a scrapper nearby when one drops, it’s better just to grab and scrap than not take the red at all; same for desk plant on sacrifice runs to avoid cluttering, happiest mask if you have a clover to avoid an onset of annoying ghosts etc.. Also of note that if you’re playing with chaos grabbing and scrapping happiest mask or brilliant Behemoth is definitely worth it because taking those two items could be shooting yourself in the foot anyway. Of course, a recycler is better in these situations, but if you don’t have one or have already rolled once, it’s worth bearing in mind.
For yellows there's rarely any reason to scrap yellows, even if they're on the same stage. Chances are you're not going to have many different yellow items, if more than one even, and chances are that if you find a yellow printer you like, you're going to be happy to convert all your yellows to a nice stack of that item. I was once having a rather lousy run as Captain, when I found both a Little Helper printer and an Energy Drink printer on the same stage. I had three Genesis Loops (due to some mountain shrines) and a Queen's Gland, and already had several Goat Hoofs and a pair of Red Whips. My build otherwise was pretty awful and I was barely surviving. I decided it was the perfect time to embrace the meme given to me, and just turn into a fireball spewing blur. From that point on it transitioned into a lulzy god run.
i once was blessed with a Sentient Meat Hook printer, and had 4 reds in my inventory. after that stage i had 4 meat hooks and proceeded with a god run :D (with commando btw)
A piece of additional advice that not many people seem to think of: if you're late in a god run, say 1.5-2 hours, you probably have tons of goat hooves/energy drinks and are struggling to move around the map, you can scrap 10 energy drinks or goat hooves and your life will instantly become much better (I personally tend to stay at around 30 total speed items and scrap if I were to go above 50) Also you missed to mention items that should definitely be scrapped before fighting mithrix, like the Genesis Loop as they may fuck you over in the last phase
My personal tip on Mithrix runs: Find a scrapper on the purple stage before the final stage and scrap everything that will give him the advantage on the final phase, e. g. Tesla Coils, Crowbars, etc. Also, scrap some on-kill green and white items as they are practically useless on the final boss. Who knows you might run into a really good item cauldron on the final stage.
One last thing, if you can find a printer on the last stage for good items that you already have, scrap all the items and print them again. This method will rearrange them as the latest item, which you will get first during Mithrix' final phase.
Little Disciple is honestly my favorite boss item in the entire game. Summoning an ATG missile 1-2x every single second just for moving around, not even actively firing like you have to do for ATGs and only spawning one every few seconds? That's already broken even with no movespeed increases at all, and you can even make a win condition out of if you can get more movement speed. Compared to a Perforator which is basically just a "Will-o-the-Wisp +" with how inaccurate and impractical the fireballs are for single-target or even multi-target combat, a Mired Urn which is dependent on melee range and can be potentially dangerous in multiplayer, or even a Shatterspleen if you don't have much crit, Little Disciple is always useful and it is always powerful. I think Woolie's really sleeping on Little Disciple. It's as good as a red and if it was a green, it'd be the best green in the game.
@@TarlukLegion yeah, but compared to shatterspleen.... with shatterspleen you literally get the most broken effect in the entire game (bleed) with a 100% chance proc if you have capped your crit. it gives you an extra 5% chance on the first time you pick it up. AND it explodes.
tbh when I see a medkit printer I usually stack a few of them, they're pretty good at sustaining Mithrix's damage when you get all your life back after every hit, provided you have the mobility to not take two hits in a row. I'm not sure it resets the OS protection though, last time I got to check it I ended up not needing it at all. Well, that's for Eclipse runs anyway, they're pretty worthless for the chaos stages 10+ can become.
To anyone reading this now, there is actually more of a use for red scrap since there can be common soup cauldrons on commencement, which take a red and give three commons. Still generally not worth it unless you have a red that is actively detrimental to your run or one that is completely useless.
I had a head set once and the jump height was actually awful for me since I couldn't spam the sprint jumps for easy reposition with Wax Quail, which lost me the run in the end, so tbh I wish I had scrapped it...
On my long runs i scrap all my bad whites, turn them in to bulk greens at the blue shop. Then scrap those to turn them in to reds once i get a good one. Easy guaranteed 20+ stage runs every time
Hey Woolie, is double rebar puncher better for eclipse/ monsoon runs? I thought your most recent teir list recommended rebar and nailgun combo but i see u double rebar pretty hard in this background footage. Jw! thnks for all the great ROR2 info
I remember being able to scrap the captain's passive red for a red scrap, and getting it back at the next stage for free, while still keeping the red scrap. Have they patched that? Cause i used to do that after every boss just because i could. (but there's the point that you won't find a red printer unless you plan for a 20 stage run or so, yadayada, just saying)
Engineer here. There is ONE exception to this rule if you use stationary turrets. ALWAYS scrap the urn if you get it in a level that has a scrapper otherwise DON'T TAKE IT. The urn works also between minions so the turrets will leech eachother without really healing eachother (the amount that you remove from others is greater than the healing you get from them) so it literally kills your gameplay at lower level and it is obsolete at higher levels when you have 10+ fungi carrying your bonkers regen
Thanks for the scrapper guide, also for anyone who hasn't turned anything into scrap yet, such as console players, scrap at least one item of every rarity so you unlock the logbook entry for the scrap. Hey Woolie, I'm having the hardest time with understanding Captain, I just can't play him effectively and I just don't know what it is.
Get some tri tip daggers and movement items any chance you can. His M1 is probably the best in the game, stay rather close to the enemies in the beginning and you will do enough damage. Once you have enough attack speed your M1 charges faster, so you can take a more save route by staying further away. Pack the hacking beacons and dont be greedy with them, on the first 2 stages I usually just open the first chest I see (unless I have a shrine or a big chest in sight ofc) after that I tend to be a bit more greedy with it, but not too much either. If you have to wait for enemies to spawn so you can make some cash, just use the beacon instead and save time. Hope for the red map on stage 4 and get that legendary item for free. After stage 5 the beacons are more or less useless, but they are super strong early in the game. I find captain to be the easiest surviver to get a god run with if you follow what I just layed down for you. I feel you also have to aim a bit more precise than with most other characters, but I am a terrible aimer and I can still make it work. Tri Tip dagger is so awesome, because 1 shot of the M1 is actually 8 bullets, each with a proccoeff of 1, so you are basically guaranteed to bleed your opponent with just 1 dagger. This also applies to other on hit effect, thats why he is probably the best survivor in the game at this moment.
I dont know if I got fortunate, but I only see red/yellow printers when i have red/yellow scrap. do you have a higher chance of getting a printer if you have that colour scrap?
I would have mentioned that you might often want to scrap on stage 5 before heading to Mithrix if you have items you definitely don't need for the fight that would be a pain for him to have. In fact, it can even be better to scrap them and not pick up the scrap so you get your useful items back from him sooner in the 4th phase.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 Oh, I like that idea even better. Didn't think of it. Are you guaranteed at least one red and green cauldron on Commencement every time?
Great information, although I would absolutely recommend scrapping useless reds and yellows if you find a scrapper on stage 5 (ie things that wouldn't benefit you into a Mithrix fight) just without picking up the scrap. Do NOT pick up the scrap! Disc, brainstalks, vultures, desk plant, catalyst, relic, dagger, mask etc. alongside the yellows mentioned in the video are essentially useless items by that point, when only single target damage is valuable, or basically a negligible benefit during Mithrix's phase 2. This goes for whites and greens too, which you should scrap only in multiples of 3 and 5 respectively, for use at the soup island (picking up the items you trade for there is optional). To me this is crucial in my gameplan doing Eclipse 8 runs. I feel it makes all the difference to never go into the Mithrix fight with more items than you need, and no scrap. Of course reliant on the chance you get a stage 5 scrapper. I choose not to pick up bad items on that stage unless I can find one
10 Red Whips, 1-10 Goat Hoofs, 1 Energy Drink and 1+ Little Disciple is good fun. I think Little Disciple procs all on hits, so after crit, bleed, ATG Missiles, Ukulele's etc. is very VERY good fun... Even though you're literally ONLY sprinting. This is me saying that i've really grown fond of Red Whips + Disciple, and even though Little Disciple may be a bit (a LOT) of OP cheese under these circumstances, i hope they won't nerf it too hard. I wouldn't think Hopoo would do that though, otherwise he would have nerfed Bleed beforehand, which he already stated that he won't. Btw, Acrid looks amazing with 1000+ Movement speed while sprinting :3
You forgot a small detail about scrapping red items, if you for example, take a wake of vultures as Rex, it could really mess up your run, since turning half of your hp to shields seriously cripples rex's ability to survive and to attack, that is the only red item that I would scrap, on that specific survivor.
Me and some homies were doing an all commando run, and I somehow managed to get a rejuvenation rack, n’kuahana’s opinion, and mired urn. It was early on too, so I was basically immortal lmao
ok you say avoid scarpping greens but frankly when I have a poglyp I always scrap it. even considering the unlikelihood of finding a good green printer, it and scrap are nearly equal in value.
I will always scrap Frost Relic on any survivor except Merc since I find it's visual effect to be too distracting and not helpful at all with a ranged kit.
I do scrap some reds just because they either get in the way of sight or can harm you i.e. happiest mask. Usually do greens when they aren't providing massive benefits, and commons that don't add assist in any way (staring at fungus as any character other than engi) \-_-/ all I can say
I'm surprised that you didn't mention max stacks. If you've got 20 crit glasses, there's no harm in salvaging 10 of them because you're already over 100% crit chance.
What should I do if my goal is to beat Monsoon with a given character as fast as possible, either from Mithrix or Obliteration? When should I fight the boss and when should I loop? If I'm not having a good run or lacking in something like defense, healing, mobility, or attack by the time it's decision time should I fight boss or loop and hope for what I'm missing?
I dunno if you're still struggling with this or not (probably not, it's been a year), but I wandered across some advice that I have used successfully to just get the masteries. Do a monsoon run with the artifacts command and sacrifice, stack up some mushrooms and razorwire (3-5 of each will do), and get to the blue portal asap after you got those things. Go to the void fields, push through to the 7th stage (max enemies with the least amount of items) and just chill in the void while you farm up loot to get the optimal build you want. Then proceed to go through and do either Mithrix or Obliterate, depending on the mood.
@@leadpaintchips9461 I have barely touched the game for a year so yeah I kind of stopped focusing on roguelikes for awhile and started playing more stuff I could make measurable progress in, plus I was able to loop in the normal difficulty one or two times while playing with someone else and even once on my own but there's no endgame, no goal, once you defeat the boss it's just lasting as long as you can and it makes the end result feel rather shallow, like there's not much point in playing any further once I unlock all the characters aside from getting their alternate abilities, but I haven't really felt like playing the game for awhile.
anyone know what the last red item is and how to unlock it? It's the circle one, I think it's new cause I play this game every day, never come across it
That would be Captain's defensive microbot. To get the entry, you need to kill his Umbra (using Artifact of Vengeance) while having no other items. Easiest way to do it is to complete stage 1 on drizzle without items, and just wait for it to spawn at the 10 minute mark. Don't ask me why it works like this, it just does.
The Captain's Passive, defensive microbots. You can't unlock it because it can only be obtained by the Captain, OR if you use the artifact of vengeance, wait 10 minutes on stage 1 with no items, and kill the doppelganger. If you do the former, then you can pick it up because it will be a guaranteed drop if you have no other items. The Captain can scrap it and lose it (or gain more stacks of it) at shrines of order.
I would never scrap a little disciple... withe a few (or a ton) of movement items? it just destroys everything while giving me the ability to run away...
The only time I scrap reds is if I'm playing a melee character and I have a tesla coil, and I'm about to fight mithrix. After the stage 5 teleporter, I scrap it so I do not have to fight it in phase 4.
@@2911oscar razorwire, tougher times, crowbars and mired urn are the only items he can't use, he can use everything else though which includes tesla coil
