If you mean it, then saying "i love you" is a good way to see how the other truly feels about you. If not reciprocated then maybe move on and stop investing

I'm a man in kinda this position - I want to say 'I love you' all the time, knowing she won't say it back. But all her actions show someone who does seem to love me.
i’m old-fashioned as well and always believe that the guy should say it first but you can only wait so long and my boyfriend has been cheated on before so I feel that he definitely is hesitant to say it first so I’m gonna say it first! let you know how that goes

Hi Susan, well said. I think saying "I love You" is assuring. But actions will convey feelings much better. In certain circumstances saying the magic words may allow you to open up and express yourself better, now that the 'cats out of the bag". I remember I girl I dated and never told her that I loved her. I cried profusely when she dumped me. And cried hours more when I got back home. At the time I thought that our relationship could never work out, she had some serious personal issues. Still today after many years I still have some feelings for her.

Also different people have different love languages. My aunt when she was in her early 20s had been dating a slightly younger man and his love language definitely was not Words of Affirmation. Their first fight which ended in a breakup (for a couple of weeks haha) went along the lines of "you never say you love me" "I thought it was obvious that I do" etc. This gentleman may express his love through acts of service, quality time etc. whereas the lady may be a words of affirmation person. If that is the case, then she needs to communicate it.

I had a Capricorn for 2 years, recently we broke up and I almost never heard him saying I love you ? But once in the middle of the night he woke up, probably dreaming of us and immediately he said , I love you sweetly !! Wish you had videos on emotional damaged woman. I told her that I loved her but she basically said there’s no way I could love her after 4 months. I sometimes wonder if she knows that I do love her with my actions. I’m a man of few words but loud actions.
I agree if I'm feeling Love and Loved if I say I Love you it's not going to save a broken heart because I don't express my Now feelings. While reading each their book on the balcony during the Corona lockdown, I spontaneously told my 16 - years younger flatmate/lover, that I love him very much. He made me repeat it three times (intentionally or not) and then he told me, that he loves me too. I then said nothing, continued to read and 3 min later went to finish my baking. By mistake I did close the door so that he couldn't get in the next 15 minutes :) our ways parted as planed since then but I still recall this occasion in to my mind with smile on my face. It was so profound, easy, natural and deep experience that is capable to shake us up to call us to our true self of loving human beings. Susan, wow! What a bombshell of an answer you gave to this question about timing and telling someone you love them. Here are my thoughts: Without first taking the time to know him/her, how can you expect to love or be loved in a meaningful way? And therein is the answer: (know him/her) before you give yourself permission to open up for love. Unfortunately many people confuse repeated physical satisfaction with the same partner to mean love. Wrong!!! Let me repeat that again. WRONG!!! If real communication doesn't take place between the two individuals; it will spell "into-the-blender" for your emotional feelings. Dear, you did say, "personally" you are willing to put it out there. No harm no foul. Q. What's the success rate for that approach?
I said it first and he didnt say it back. I was patient and about a month later he finally said it. I was patient and kind and saw in nis actions he was showing it but not saying it. If actions dont show it and he doesnt say it its not there.
I told this girl that I was seeing at college for about 6 months ( but we were just friends and appreciate each other) that “I want her “ and suddenly She became cold with me, while she used to be super excited to talk to me and answer my messages, now she takes hours to reply to any of my messages and when I asked her on a date she said she was busy after she’d told me she had time on the weekends... what should I do ? Im skeptical to say it because what does it really mean? It's fluid...people fall in and out of love all the time. Are you happy? Yes or no? Than what else actually matters? I really dont see the point. I have a 9 year old, which i know i love and between her and my mom these are probably the only.people i feel i have ever loved. So i date someone for half a year and they are in the same catagory? Again, i dont really get it. I'm in a new relationship going on four months and im really into this girl but i will never say it because im worried it will change thr dynamic and i dont know what it means in this context.
He said we can talk but do not ask me to tell you "I love you" and don't you tell me...I feel he is married and she lives with him on and off and I feel she listens to our conversations and is making me look like a fool...I heard her say what is SHE talking about? He has said he loves no one but his dog...and I am wondering if it is because the dog belongs to her husbands farm of dogs...the female is a very selfish person.....He used to love me and I think he still does but he is now confused and this female messed him up and I wish I could of gotten to him before she messed up his mind....I truly believe she is not a nice person IMO
