When The Motor Doesn't Fit, You Cut It In TWO! BEATER 1955 Chevy Nomad Engine Fitment

This right here is hot rodding 101. Buying a motor with a large sump oil pan always seems like a great idea. Until it doesn't fit.... One of my few gripes with a tri 5 Chevy is the steering design. The steering is all behind the front cross member which causes oil pan and exhaust clearance issues.
A common fix is using a Chevy 2 oil pan, but that costs money and time. The new mill came with a over size Morosso deep sump pan that just needed a little trimming.
So in this video we rebuild the front steering, then cut and weld the oil pan to clear everything. You want an old car? These are the problems you'll encounter daily!
This 1955 Chevy Nomad is well on it's was from beat to sweet!

Thank you for the mention Dan, was alot of fun at the parts shop. I will check about the driver window track tomorrow. I have already made a nice box for the trim. I will stop at the post office for ship quote Monday as option. Nice job modification on oil pan. ✌

Loving it , as usual , Dan ! You are so . . . undaunted . I had to laugh when a Bobcat ad popped up . Don't they know Dani is advertising their product already ? Any who . I was glad you tried some helpful advice on drag link / tie rod end removal w/o a smoke wrench . I'm a fan of never-seize myself . They should call it never clean , because I have yet to use the stuff & Not get some on me somewhere , every time . Life . That's the 2nd oil pan I've seen you modify , w/o hesitation . Considering the project level of this build , extreme , i.e. "roof with a title" & replace what is missing &/or see through , that being most of the rest of it , I'd say you make it look like a walk in the park . We know it's not . The cash outlay stops most of us in our tracks . The hard work stops more . The fact you can make videos without all of the "adjectives" , F@#%* , tells me you have an excellent editor . Kudos Dani ! Keep giving it , Dan ! You are Rocking it !!!

factory 62-67 Chevy II oil pans have kind of a front sump so they for sure won't fit a trifive. Now I see they make rear sump Chevy II pan conversions. The way it looks one of those probably fits the trifive

Dan,,,there's a special tool for tie rod sleaves that hooks onto them that pulls the sleave open, you can use a rachet or johny bar. Harbor frieght or Pricess Auto has em. Cheaper & faster than acetlene. Cheers

Bias ply tires give the perfect vintage look to the car, (go well with your wheel choice too). Too bad they're not good enough to drive on when she's done. 😢😢

There is a little "wrench" for those tie rods. It has a chisel tooth that slips in the groove, then cams against the sleeve. As you put pressure on it, it spreads the sleeve while turning it at the same time. Pretty handy and easy to misplace in the shop too. If you do a lot of these front end parts, it is worth investing in.

I gave my nickel for privilege to view. Not much but it all counts. I do one other thing Dan, I measure how deep the pickup screen sets in the pan and make it about a inch off of bottom so no interference with suction and benefits of the extra oil. Weather I modify it or not, I stake that pick up with a tack weld so it can not work loose inside after its ran a while or not. I have heard of them falling off and it really sucks ... or can't in that case

BRILLIANT,once again mate,I learnt something, was entertained, and you see the progression, you don't talk the job in,there's nothing worse than the genius who'll tell you how what your doings wrong, and you shouldn't be doing it like that, when you finish your project and they ask for a hand doing theres...Sometimes you just need a bigger hammer..

Nice job! I had to do the same modification to the oil pan on my big block '55 Chevy Bel Air HT. Depending on your cam and engine vacuum, you may need a remote vacuum can or pump to generate enough boost for the power brakes. I mounted my remote vacuum can on the drivers side cowl side hidden between the fender and cowl. My cam was pretty radical though. Can't wait to hear that beast run. Keep up the good work.
