Knowledge is Power - Why does Online Learning work when learning to ride a motorcycle properly
Videos to me are a really important aspect of learning to ride a motorcycle, they come into their own with home study when they are part of a dedicated platform of professional training.
We started the introduction of professional video training around 2007. Our customers wanted a little bit more information about learning to pass the on-road motorcycle test. especially when they were approaching junctions and roundabouts.
Even though we gave them a detailed explanation on the board it wasn’t enough for everyone. We had some customers who would write down what we were talking about or take pictures, so that they could do some home study.
So we obliged and did some videos of the roundabouts on the board and then we developed on from that. We did some junction work showing people how to turn left and right at junctions and roundabouts. We also did some other videos too which really helped with home study.
But what was a real eye opener for us as trainers, was that all the customers who watched the training videos were significantly better than those who hadn't watched them. And that got us thinking about how we could elevate all our own customers' practical riding skills.
So when the Module 1 Motorcycle Test came in during 2009. Everyone who came to us to do their training, we gave them a DVD of how to pass the Mod 1 test.
THE MILESTONE
It was amazing because it was kind of a light switch going on (a real light bulb moment). It wasn't a dimmer switch that got brighter over time, this had an immediate impact. This was an overnight success.
Our customers watched the videos, came in, and they were nearly at test standard just from some home study.
This was the turning point, our pass rates just elevated. In fact they just skyrocketed.
And we went from a 60-70% pass rate to like 90 odd percent pass rate, just because of videos.
That's why I created Motorcycle Riders Hub, to get to a wider audience in the UK who want to help themselves prepare for first time Test Success.
