It was chilling, hearing Vin Scully saying those words. He was the announcer in 1958 when the Dodgers played there after moving to LA.

The soccer part is 99.9999999999% true. There are regulation rules for sure, but there is one professional soccer team in America, New York City Football Club (NYCFC), that play at Yankee Stadium with a much smaller field! Soccer fans hate it, which I get of course because it is highly unusual and ugly, but I think that it is high key fun to have an irregular field sometimes!

I was there. 50 yard line. Very cool atmosphere for an exhibition game. Got to park for free at Dodger stadium and took a free shuttle to the game. Walked around the stadium, saw Steve Garvey. Laughed at Kareem Abdul Jabbar when he attempted one of the several commemorative first throws. Flyover by half a dozen Helos. Bought a hat, T-shirt and like a true LA sports attendee, left in the 8th inning. Was a great day and night.

I would have put the field setup like the Polo Grounds: Home Plate in the end zone, short foul poles in the corners, probably 260-280' depending on the angles, put wire up 35'-45' to a 350' marker in left center, then a 415-450' centerfield
@Ghostrider6A

That would be a good setup, but the Dodgers wanted to replicate the dimensions as close as possible to when they originally played in the Coliseum.

Being old enough to remember when the Dodgers played there for real, the original left field foul pole and net were almost 60 feet farther away from home plate than in this game. The Coliseum had been remodeled since 1961. It was only 192 feet down the line in this exhibition game and 251 feet from 1958 through 1961. The original net was 42 feet high tapered down as it went toward deep left-center.

Red Sox Nation is everywhere! Especially in Los Angeles where there are plenty of Boston Transplants, like myself and a good friend of mine who died almost 15 years ago. May God Rest His Soul. That’s why the Los Angeles Coliseum sold out each of these games during this Weekend Series in 2008. The fact that the Red Sox were the defending World Series Champions at the time also could’ve contributed.

Tickets were so scarce in that game that I had no choice but to take A Field Level Seat close to the Left Field Foul Pole. From there you can’t see the ball when The Pitcher is pitching. We packed the house in all 3 games of this series and set A San Diego Padres Record for the highest attendance in a Weekend Series.

Most likely bandwagon Red Sox fans than transplants. Sports fans like whichever team is winning at the moment or the teams with the most history of winning. Remember, Boston came to Dodger Stadium in the early 2000’s, if I remember correctly. Granted, they hadn’t recently won it at the time, but, they’re still a storied franchise with a large out-of-market fan base just because they’re the Boston Red Sox. Just like the Dodgers have a large out-of-market following because they’re the Los Angeles Dodgers. You really believe Anaheim and Miami are hearing the same level of cheering on the road?
@Jiltedin2007
@Jiltedin2007 2 года назад
@@Fakename70 Yeah, I remember. 2002, when the Red Sox visited Dodger Stadium, I was also at that Sunday Afternoon Game, even though I got there around the 3rd Inning with a date, tickets were still available so I got us 2 tickets and by the time we were seated already it was 4-0 Dodgers. Then they would put up another 5 runs in the 3rd and that was all they needed as the Dodgers won that game, 9-6. This would be Boston’s final season of tyranny, even though they still had Pedro and Manny, Big Papi was in Minnesota, Johnny Damon was in Oakland, with Keith Foulke, and Curt Schilling was in Arizona fresh off a World Series Championship. As soon as they got all 4 of them, along with Dave Roberts at the Trading Deadline, that’s when the Red Sox seriously turned the corner and there was no looking back after the 2004 Season.

Do you guys see that the first few row of seats are a different color? a lighter tan. Well, that’s the original dimensions of the filed before the athletic track was removed and the field sunk 11 feet. Meaning the field was larger back when they played there between 1958-61. Also, the Coliseum is a national, state and city registered protected landmark. It has hosted 2 Summer Olympics, the first ever NFL Super Bowl (and a few more there after), the 1959 MLB World Series, and appearances by US Presidents Franklin D Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan and international dignitaries such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar Chavez, Pope John Paul II and Nelson Mandela.
