Have you ever wondered...when should I replace my mower blade? Should I sharpen it again or just replace it?
When it's time to replace your mower blade, how do you know what blade to buy?
While every person's opinion is going to be different, I share my opinion here and some general rules of thumb when it comes to knowing when to replace your mower blade.

My Toro is at least 10 years old and I have never replaced the blade but I sharpen it every time I cut. When I sharpen it, it's will cut your finger (I have cut mine) it's so sharp, so what am I doing wrong?

Is it better bringing it straight up and not worrying about gas or oil leaking out?

Remove and inspect, then sharpen and balance your blade twice a year (once at the beginning and once mid-way through the cutting season). Replace with an OEM factory original blade once you have ground off 1/16" off the edge, or if it is chipped or cracked. You can use an angle grinder with a flap wheel attached to sharpen while wearing leather gloves and safety glasses for safety. I use a screwdriver through the hole to check for level and balance, but you can use a nail in a wall or buy a blade balancer online. Be sure small children and pets are in the house or backyard while you are working.

@@fredsmith6324 What is your recommendation, Fred? My Ego mower manual says sharpening twice during the "mowing season" is usually acceptable unless the mower blade encounters special circumstances such as sandier soil, etc.

@@BadAssDude69 i went many years on one blade, no sharpening, and i had fine cuts. ok that was prob not good, so i'd say sharpen or change blade once every two years. that's what i will do from now on. maybe three yrs, will see how it's cutting after two. i don't hit many rocks.

@@fredsmith6324 I sharpen every time I cut - I wouldn't do it if it wasn't dull.
