The great Cory Henry! Playing "All I Do" by Stevie Wonder, at the Montreux Jazz Festival a few years back. I've also transcribed the full song, which you can find in the description within Cory Henry Transcription Playlist. Sheet music trivia (first to answer correctly gets PDF): Gotcha now ___?
This is so sick because of how much he integrates the original melody into his improvisation. Sometimes jazz players will play so far out that you can lose track of the original tune in it. But not Cory, this is great!
These lines are so clean you could eat them off the floor!! I love how melodic they are, easy to sing along to. Also, what are those left hand chords he's doing??? Cory sure can stretch!!
Won’t get the same love because it almost looks like some random “oh there’s a piano” improv moment but this may possibly be one of the most mind blowing.musical performances by a musician on any instrument.
Cory just does it different man, he is so GIFTED! And yeah, definitely put in his 10,000 hours a long long time ago. Probably by the time he was 13-14.
0:23 noticed a mistake in the transcription in measure 12: the right hand chord on beat 2 is missing a G#, it should be E G# B# D#, while the left hand chord on beat 2 is supposed to be E and G#, not A# C# E. Also the left hand chord on beat 4 is missing an E#, it should be C# E# F##. 0:46 here in measure 23 the left hand chords he plays are G# A# C E the first two times, and just F## C# E the last time.
Great work as always! Question though, can anyone tell me what those little "cross" shapes ar on bar 58 under the double notes, as shown on 2:01. I'm not talking about double sharps. Thanks, can't figure this one out myself
Usually a x note head means 'muted tone' at whichever pitch shown - it's percussive notation. In this specific context you'd have to ask the transcriber to be sure - but I reckon it simply means here that that tone can't be fully heard but could be played.
I’m pretty sure it means: he probably meant to play this but didn’t manage to (at speed), but I as the transcriber am sure that’s what he meant. Also there in m6.
Those are “melodically implied ghost notes.” For more info on my transcription idiosyncrasies you can check our Transcriber’s Notes in the description!
A few years ago I download this transcription from another youtuber but I wasn't at the skill level to even begin to start. Thanks for this as I've lost the music but going to try again, but unfortunately that soul cannot be imitated by anyone else
Exactly, if you feel the need, learn this transcription. Apply the things you enjoyed the most into your own playing. Then play with your own soul that nobody else can imitate.
Sounds like one of Liszt's études before they became the Transcendental Études, the version he wrote when he was much younger. I feel like you'll revisit this wonderful Prélude in the future and flesh it out to be a very beautiful piece.
I would have much rather seen flat signs when the harmony was disjunct, rather than wandering so far into double-sharp territory that you spelt Gm as Fx A# Cx
@@Susyownsyou at least, it's transcribed as such, and mostly played too although the player is a little free with the time in the performance. Not sure where you could get 6/8 from to be honest 😅
I think any classical musician would be extremely impressed by the advancement of music, more so than the average individual. Yet the reception of music that doesn’t fit the perfect western esthetic I assume would be mixed, I like to think Mozart wild be much less uptight and try and imitate the new style. none of the composers would be unfamiliar with the harmonies present, just their applications to obtain the style of jazz, for this reason I’ve always been surprised that no prima-Donna was attempting jazz in the 18th century
This clip has more views than almost every clip on Cory Henry's channel. That's simply wrong. Reach out to Cory Henry, tell him you want the kind of CRAZY jazz solo and gospel chop content you seem to like. The man deserves to make a living on those skills.
Btw, nothing wrong with a good transcription!! Not complaining on the post of this video. Just want both of you (Cory and Timothy) to have the success you seem to have earned.
