the most important player in the Knicks now is Brunson, his impact on the Knicks play style is tremendous, they can get this far is thanks to him. Brunson is their best contract in recent year, i believe that the Knicks can still manage to compete without Randle but if Brunson wasn't on the court, they would struggle a lot. In the series against the Cavs, Randle had a horrible performance but luckily his teammates was there to carry him but now facing a team with a superstar like Butler, The Knicks won't have any chance to win if Randle isn't stepping up in big time when the team need. After his performance against the Hawks, I knew that he was not that guy. It should tell people something that Randle is supposed to be the Knicks' best player, yet his team still dominated the Cavs while he was basically a non-factor. I know that he's been dealing with his bad ankle, but that's no excuse for the poor, selfish decision-making when he's had the ball. They should strongly consider moving him this off-season.
@otimelyofficial8146
@otimelyofficial8146 Год назад
One thing to note is that randle CAN be a great playmaker, he averaged 6 assist per game in 2020-21 season, its just that he CHOOSES not to pass. He has relatively large gravity and can make a lot of openings for guys like RJ and Brunson to work, but he just HAS to shoot every time he gets the ball. If he was a more willing passer and focused on posting up and driving to the basket more, he would be a lot more efficient and impactful.

He is amazingly selfish and when not playing well (scoring) he is a tremendous liability. He literally stops all movement and players have no idea where to be when he passes. This video matches my own thoughts on Randle. I think part of the reason theres such a yawning chasm between regular season Randle and playoff Randle is Thibs. Thibs teams have traditionally maximized their roster talent during the regular season and don't have another gear for the playoffs. I think Randle is the epitome of this dynamic. Randle is able to put up good numbers in the regular season because he is able to inhabit a role designed around maximizing his skills. The thing is any team built around Randles skills have a hard and fast ceiling. Throw locked in game planned playoff D and the regular season is fools gold. If this team were in Sacramento or Charlotte a winning team and a first round playoff win would be a great overall outcome. In New York they only serve to remind Knicks fans that it's been two and half decades since their team was part of the championship conversation. Compounding the issue is the fact that there really isn't a role for Randle on a championship caliber roster outside of possible sixth man. Unless a team is structured to maximize what Randle does his liabilities on D and spacing the floor become glaring and as mentioned a team built around what he does is never going to be good enough to compete.

My issue with randle is the effort. Defense and offense. Was watching the game last night and bro was guarding kevin love for the first 3 quarters of the game. He's like 6'8 250, and super athletic, why doesnt he take the hardest defensive assignment? His offense has been trash but if he put the effort in on the defensive end itd offset that. If he T'd up on jimmy or bam and held them to lower scoring averages, theyd be much better than they already are defensively. But he's just out there standing around on defense not putting in any work. Its a shame. On offense he never posts up, he just dribbles 5 times and burps up the ugliest shots. Good inside player, good rebounder who can dribble and pass. Has a decent enough outside shot to keep defenses honest. Defense is not what theyre getting paid to do but theyll help out with the occassional block or steal. They turn the ball over way too much and while their numbers look good on paper its because their usage rate is through the roof. Far too many turnovers and a shooting % far too low to ever be considered dominant. They can and will help a team get to the playoffs but they will never go very far due to the deficiencies in their game. If it's any consolation, Randle has had a much better career than people would have thought when he was drafted as I saw him as a classic PF who could also put the ball on the floor when needed. They were/are efficiency nightmares and you can not only see how they affect their teams negatively on the floor but you can also read into the analytics to see how they arent as good as their numbers.

The ball movement stops at Julius Randle whenever he’s on the floor, he’s turning into a 3 point chucker, when bully ball doesn’t work he frowns and his attitude is some of the worst when thing don’t go his way. All in all, he either needs to step back and let Jalen Brunson cook or get his ego in check and realize he’s their number one option and go out there and cook himself Edit, I’d also like to add, he’s also not known for his defence either, which doesn’t help his case. Edit number 2: Julius Randle reminds me of Carmelo Anthony in the way that; 6’8, bully ball, who are both (good but) unwilling passers with mediocre to below average defence.

I’d like to him the benefit of the doubt. He has FINALLY changed his game style since that first playoff series just like you mention. Less drives, spin moves, and euros. Whilst relying on his jumper more often and playing at a much faster pace thank god. He did have Mobley and Adebayo guarding him most of the series’ but yeah he still needs to shoot better or play more systematically if his jumpers aren’t hitting.

Knicks front office made randle think he was THE guy because he was the consolation after the Zion tank, But he holds back the team with his selfish play style and attitude. Knicks will always be less than the sum of their parts while he’s there, his numbers come at the cost of the teams production. Knicks need to realize this is brunsons team and at 28/29 years old he is what he is

NYs best player is Brunson, he's treated as their first option. however, when Randle is someone they try to feed in the post as he should have an advantage. he just takes tough shots, and it doesn't work in the playoffs where they can really focus on him.

Most of y’all never played basket ball … Julius is decent the Knicks are doing exactly what they need with him … they made the Knicks a destination to attract again … not contend this fast … now we’re at a place to begin to be a contender and destination for better players so the Knicks did exactly what they were supposed to do … idk who expected more this had been the best two seasons in the last 5 for me it was exciting… we’ve been making playoffs not to contend for a chip but to show we have a culture now

Just look at Brunson he reminds me a lot of Paul O'Neil from the Yankees during their dynasty. He was a B+/A- type player but he was a winner. He would get big hits and have big games in the playoffs. Randle is the opposite. He's a fake star player who disappears and chokes. A big loser

Knicks commentators always say Randle is better off when he makes quick decisions, pass drive or shoot before the double team comes. His iso ball can lead to great passes to open shooters but if the opponents time a double team correctly it’s no bueno. The most frustrating thing he does is wicked hard bounce passes to Robinson who is way too tall to be catching anything but the softest of tosses with no defenders anywhere near him. The limited ball handling/midrange shooting skills of the other Knicks bigs I think hurts that potential for Randle’s playmaking. Robinson’s really only good for lobs and putbacks but bad FT shooting. Hartenstein has a mini floater and better FT but they both rarely try to create for themselves. Bam exposed that in the playoffs on both ends. He was the difference Butler was not his fully Bucks series self.
@Yoda35421
@Yoda35421 Год назад
Also Randle’s effort on defense leaves a lot to be desired…he’s usually just in time to watch someone else make a play right in front of him. Sometimes he realizes that he’s in position to make a play and he’ll block the shot. It’s easy to nitpick…I couldn’t do any of the stuff thee guys do.

As a Knicks fan, 100% agree. However I do think Randle can be a good player, just for a different team that will strip Randle of his “special treatment” and make him a 3rd option player. Dude needs to be somewhere that’s gonna hold him accountable.

im a knicks fan and as someone who for the most part is disgusted with his shot selection, but if only he could agree to be a defense first, 2nd/3rd option, sort of how wiggins was for GSW, cause randle, brunson and 1 other piece honestly can go pretty far in the correct system imo

people need to understand that today's players have awesome regular season numbers, awesome highlights but taking a deep dive into their abilities they just dont have solid fundamentals. that is why they get blitzed when elite level defenses (which usually appears in the playoffs) start to focus on them. these arent the tmacs,vc,kobe,ai,dwade,lbj,kg,td,amare,nash or or the 90s legends. the numbers they produce are blown out of proportion.
