I'll add an amen to what you said! Really enjoyed your reaction to MY favorite band! GEOFF TATE is the singer, SCOTT ROCKENFIELD is the drummer. EDDIE JACKSON, bass. MICHAEL WILTON and CHRIS DEGARMO on lead guitars. This is the original line-up (the one I love). Queensryche still exists, but Chris and Geoff are no longer in it. Still there are many fantastic albums for you to explore from the original QR (pronounced: queens-rike). And BTW, what little I heard of your voice is quite nice! Please listen to more QR -- you won't be sorry!!
@Sherry Tipton, Hell yeah ! Operation Mindcrime is my favorite album across all genres period. I saw Queensryche perform this entire album in concert in Joliet, IL over 30 to 35 years ago when they opened for Metallica who was promoting their And Justice For All album. Best concert I have ever seen. Brings up the nostalgia in me!
Singer is Geoff Tate (pronounced like Jeff), drummer is Scott Rockenfield. Guitars, Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton, bass is Eddie Jackson. Band name is pronounced Queens-Rike, like bike. They have a lot more music that is just spectacular...
Operation Mindcrime (album...not just the song) is a masterful concept album. The story it tells from beginning to end, if you pay attention to/read the lyrics, is very special. That's the reason I hesitate to suggest reacting to a single song. Because literally each song is part of the story, and they kind of all go together. 'Needle Lies', and 'Eyes of a Stranger' are probably two standouts for me, but the whole album is pretty amazing.
AC/DC is my favorite band ever and I want to pick them in Donnington 91 as my favorite live show ever, but I am inclined to agree with you. Geoff Tate went beast mode in Tokyo of 84 like no singer ever has.
I grew up with these people. I got to hear Geoff in an old building on the "old brick road" before he was even in Queensryche. The band was called Myth. And trust me, in the 80's, he was as good as there was on the planet! The guys are all fantastic at their craft, and very good people to boot. Stoked that the world is lucky enough to share in their greatness.
Geoff Tate is one hell of a heavy metal singer. Recommendations by Queensryche: "I Don't Believe In Love" "The Lady Wore Black" "Silent Lucidity" "Walk In The Shadows" "Queen Of The Ryche"
Literally the whole "Rage For Order" album is an exhibition. (Neue Regel, The Whisper, London, I Dream In Infrared, I Will Remember, Screaming In Digital, Walk In The Shadows...)
I love queensryche since the 80s seen them live best vocal Geoff Tate Chris DeGarmo,Michael Wilton,Eddie Jackson,Rockenffel they are no longer together Geoff was the main glue of the group, they are know touring with a new singer ther ok but nothing like Geoff that's for sure,Geoff has his own band they are great.
They are from the Seattle Washington area, Bellevue to be specific. They were home town heroes in the 80's. some of the first rockers from Seattle that made it big (besides Jimi Hendrix and Heart of course). way before the grunge scene hit.
Metal Church was another kickass Seattle band in the 80s (YES, I know they formed in San Francisco, but Kurt Vanderhoof (who formed the band) moved back to Washington after a year and they "cut their teeth", so to speak, in Seattle). They got sort of passed over, which was kind of criminal IMO. Those guys should be up there on the list with the other 80s metal icons.
@@philpennington826 i like Metal Church. TBH I first heard of them on the song they did with Sir Mix-A-Lot back in the 80s. He's another Seattle hometown hero from before the grunge scene got big.
@@chrisstorms7511 LOL I forgot about that. They played the music on Mix-A-Lot's "Iron Man". I'm familiar with Mix-A-Lot. I'm from Tacoma. He was one of my heroes when I went through my hip-hop phase in the 80s. 😋
His voice was on fire. He amplified his voice AND the energy in the house to heights rarely achievable. It is supernatural and so is the message. Take hold of that VIOLET FLAME!
So I'm going to say the same thing about 100 other people said. Listen to Operation Mindcrime in order and keep the lyrics close. it's an amazing story it tells.
Love the reaction! This is/was my favorite band. Geoff Tate, so underrated, as was the band as a whole. You sing like that, you can whatever you want right!??
Dive right in to Operation: Mindcrime and Empire - two of the best they ever did with this lineup. Mindcrime is one of the best, if not THE best, concept albums ever. It's right up there with Pink Floyd's "The Wall."
'The Warning' by Queensryche, which is the album this song is from, is a progressive hard rock/metal MASTERPIECE through and through! MASTERCLASS all the way!
I saw Geoff last June and seeing him again this September. I’m super excited!!! Seen him with Queensryche 6 times. Never disappointed. Geoff is the best of the best ❤❤❤
This band at this time was untouchable. One of my all time favorite songs is by them called "The Queen of the Reich". It's possibly the first ever fusion of power metal like this song is combined with Thrash like 80s Metallica and it still holds up today because they knocked it out of the park.
I am starting to think that our black brothers and sisters may soon lead the charge to bring metal back. Luckily reaction videos have brought in a new genre to a lot of folk that never knew what talent there was. And talent crosses every boundary. You are awesome brother! - Kevin Venture 🤘
I've seen then live many times. They sound just like this. Geoff Tate is one of the best. Next you should do Silent Lucidity. Different vibe. Its beautiful.
I got some other suggestions everybody ends up going to Silent Lucidity before after this song and this song. I would suggest some songs off of their first EP which I had when I was a kid I got with the stereo when I my 15th birthday in 1983. Try Queen of the Ryche and The Lady Wore Black.
By the way, I have seen them live 21 times. Enough so that Geoff started to recognize me at the shows and give me the what’s up head nod every time. It was cool, it was like, Hey man, here we are again, let’s do this. Fucking Bad Ass live! Geoff is ELVIS! It’s really hard to take your eyes off this guy live, and standing up there with 2 shit hot guitarists who in any other band would get all the attention. That’s how impressive GEOFF is live. Really the whole band flat out, kicks ass. They deliver a super clean show every time. This is what a professional Rock band is. They have a really good catalog that goes back decades.
I have been a MEGA Queensryche fan since the 80s (yeah, I just dated myself, lol). There's plenty more music from them worse listening to. Operation Mindcrime, Promised Land...I could go on and on. Geoff Tate does indeed have a fantastic voice. The lineup has changed a bit over the years Geoff left in 2012) but the group is still playing.
Oh, and they're from Seattle, WA. The drummer is Scott Rockenfield. Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton were the guitarists, and Eddie Jackson was the bass player.
Man, I love to watch people hear this for the first time. It just continues to back up what I believed when I heard this song shortly after it came out in 1984. Don’t even kid yourself, brother. I can tell you have a great voice. I can sing a bit too, but this guy is different. The first time I heard this and heard that first high note, I knew he was the best metal singer I had ever heard. It is 37 years later and there are quite a few people that believe that now, and the numbers are growing. I have seen 23 reactions to this exact video and all but one blew the reviewers away. Now for some info. Queensryche (Pronounced Queens Rike) was formed in 1983. They are from the Seattle area. They along with a band called Fates Warning are the originators of what is called Progressive or Prog Metal. This style is very technical, melodious and full of harmony, yet it is still loud and still metal. Many of the singers of this style can hit some serious notes, but no one can do it like this guy. Prog Metal also tends to have very intelligent lyrics and most of the bands do at least one recording where the entire thing is one story. It can be called a concept album or a rock opera, but they are the same thing. This comment is getting long, so I will start another.
Do yourself a favor and listen to "Roads to Madness", "I Will Remember" and "Is There Anybody Listening". Or just add "The Warning", "Rage For Order", "Operation Mindcrime" and "Empire" cds to your collection. Promised Land is just ok imo.
Geoff (jeff) Tate on vocals and Scott Rockenfield on drums....Queens-rike is amazing...listen to Operation Mindcrime...the entire album in order because it's a concept (story) album...Roads to Madness will make you smile
Yeah, let's not forget this is a live performance, the whole album "Warning" is AWESOME, like so many of their albums. Check out "Walk in the Shadows" off the album "Rage for Order" and play it LOUD!!!! 🤘😎🤘
Please follow up with his song Silent Lucidity - he starts out with a deeper pitch that highlights his vocal range in contrast with this song PLUS Silent Lucidity is a MASTERPIECE
His shirt, Dude, it's 1984, Cut a Brother Some Slack! I bet YOU looked like a Clown in 85 LOL Just kidding, but give us a Sweet Picture of You in 1985. It would be hilarious, Do it! Love Ya Man!
The band's name is pronounced, Queens Rike. Ryche is the old English word for "Rich." I saw them in 86' opening for Metallica's Justice for All tour. I highly recommend their song "I Don't Believe in Love." It is off of their album "Operation Mindcrime." Mindcrime was released in 1988 and is a concept album, it is very politically driven. Conspiracy, revolution, and government corruption are the theme of the story. This album will simply change your worldview.
Remember that song "We Are The World" that Michael Jackson and all the other pop singer's from the 80's did? Ronnie James Dio did a Metal song with all the 80's Metal singer's and guitarist, and Geoff Tate was one of the singer's. It's called" We're Stars" if you haven't heard it, check it out, it ROCKS 🤘😎🤘
The peak for Queensryche + the start of Nirvana were #30years ago. 😎😎 This is Geoff Tate in his prime! 🤯 1 of the #GOAT metal singers! 🐐 Other Geoff Tate era Queensryche songs. Queen of the Ryche. Eyes of a Stranger Empire. Is Anybody Listening? Live version. Jet City Woman. Another Rainy Night. Silent Lucidity. At one time, Geoff Tate, Ann Wilson, late Layne Staley, late Chris Cornell lived Metro Seattle. They had the late David P. Kyle as their singing coach. RIP.
Your happiness at discovering a new 'favorite band' is infectious! Love your reactions!! Keep up the great work. Definitely check out the band's work on the concept album Operation: Mindcrime and the album Empire which is a sonic masterpiece.
Queensryche was, and still is a very talented and intelligent band. Operation Mindcrime is a classic album that is amazing. Empire, Rage for Order are 2 other fantastic albums.
Brother I have had the most joyful laugh because of you. What Geoff Tate did for singing, you do for reactions! Big love from Texas my man!!!🤘🔥🤣🤣😃💯💯💯💯💯
Mr. Mike C, you are correct sir, Geoff Tate even possibly outshines Rob Halford, but that would be one hell of a debate! If you compare the best screams by Geoff Tate and Rob Halford, it would be tough to say which is better!! I think BOTH of those guys are freaking awesome!!! However, let's not forget Michael Matijevic of Steel Heart who has a voice that is mind blowing to say the least!!! His range is extremely impressive! Definitely the top 3 vocalists of all time!!!
Check out the same Tokyo show, the song "QUEEN OF THE RYCHE". Geoff Tate is classically trained and a master at his trade even to this day, just less hair. Queen's Right isn't Queensryche any longer without him. There's not many that can hold notes like Jeff
8 or 10 great songs by this group. Check out some of their other songs people are suggesting above. Jeff Tate (singer) damn near invented a diff genre' of Rock n Roll with his high powered, glam, dramatic and amazing voice. Its like a great opera singer decided to sing rock n roll for a few years. Lol Amazing singer and group.
They are from the greater Seattle area. They are from the 80s when MPV had basement tapes and bands could send their videos in and win prizes like a million bucks. When I was a junior in high school or it was summertime 1985 I think Geoff Tate was wearing one of those orange neon wife beaters walking down the street with his hair like after their first full LP call the morning it was after their EP that hard for songs. Anyway he was walking down the beach like yeah I'm a Rockstar that's right women come to me come to Jeff! I also knew he would not smoke cigarettes or weed cuz he didn't want to ruin his vocal cords or his throat. I did see him recently within the last 5 years up in Snoqualmie Washington at a bar called Finaighty's. He was there with Queensryche guitarist Mike Wilson who was giving tips on playing the guitar at the bar.
When I first came across Queensryche my mind was completely blown. First 2 albums were the best IMO The lead singer and Guitar pretty much created the first 2 albums and then the band fell apart because of internal relationship issues. The original vocalist Geoff Tate is still singing today and owns the original 2 albums and Chris DeGarmo hasn't been involved in many years. Many would say the first 2 or 3 albums were the peak Queensryche and the band has never been the same.
The original line up Tate DeGarmo Wilton Jackson Rockenfield Is one of the greatest most talented and also the most underage and under appreciated in rock music history. It’s a shame they didn’t have more commercial success in their prime.
Man Geoff in his prime was amazing...one of the best vocalists ever. Chris Degarmo...he was awesome and the band lost a huge step when he left. Scott Rockenfield is one of my favorite drummers of all time...and with him not in the band any more I feel he is sorely missed. I would love to see Chris and Scott both come back to the music world.
