where I’m at with my dpdr - 3+ years with chronic 24/7 derealisation and depersonalisation

Spending so much time by myself in silence is making it difficult to speak when I need to so that’s why I probably sound like I’m struggling to talk aha.
Derealisation and depersonalisation is awful to go through, over 3 years of my life has passed by without feeling present or love. It’s the most challenging thing I’ve ever went through.
In this video I explain why I think the dpdr has stayed with me for so long and why I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
Like I say at the end of the vid I’d like to think these videos help (they certainly help me by getting all this stuff off my chest).

Hey man, I've had dp/dr for 13 years. I'm 30 now. Let me tell you my story briefly. Around 17-18 it really hit me. I'd have periods of functioning and periods of feeling so broken I couldn't do anything. At 22 I joined a yoga ashram, learned how the mind worked and adopted a philosophical world view that allow the obsessive rumination to stop. Some years later I got a high paying tech job. Didn't think about dp/dr DESPITE still being disconnected from my memories and body and feeling I had brain damage and no personality. But I didn't ruminate on it. 3 years ago my anxiety came up as bad as ever, had to leave my job and have spent 1 1/2 just working on myself. I've had many breakthroughs, moments of being present and still and feeling alive again to the point I'd break into tears thanking God. But then the anxiety comes back and slip into dissociation. It's been those brief moments of aliveness again that keep me determined. As long as we are conscious we have the capacity to heal. Watch your belief systems we undoubtedly limit ourselves with fear based thought loops. Trauma healing is possible. You need to learn to create a sense of self capable of holding space for the traumatized part of you and be the source of comfort for yourself that your parents never were (unfortunately). You will shake and cry and feel rage as you allow these blocked emotions to be released and vivid memories will come back and each time you will feel more whole. Once I have mastered this I will be creating a course and RU-vid channel.

Do you have the memory loss associated with dpdr? It's been a horrible disorder for me as well. I dealt w grueling memory loss and an annoying head pressure.
@rhysmentalhealth2521
@rhysmentalhealth2521 8 месяцев назад
I feel like I forgot all my good memories and can’t remember large chunks of time from the first two years of this disorder. I also find myself zoning out a lot and forgetting what I’d been doing for the last 10 minutes. It’s like I black out and I’m confused as to what I’ve just been doing.

The longer hair and fuller beard suits ya , at least I think so . Has there been any discussion with your doctor about the plan for meds? I assume you’re still taking 30 mg mirtazapine bc you said that recently. Anyway be well, and try to do one day at a time
@rhysmentalhealth2521
@rhysmentalhealth2521 Год назад
Thank you :) I’m seeing my doctor next week for a catch-up so I’ll see what he says. But I think I’ll likely stay on 30mg of the Mirtazapine, Venlafaxine is tempting me though so we’ll see. Hope you’re well :)

U are really strong. I’m glad to see u here, you have a purpose and as soon as you clear up some things which I think are normal and everybody has them you’re going to find out what that purpose is and that’s going to clear up everything because you have a shining light in you. I think you need to just do what you’re doing, which is take every day one day at a time.😉

just recently found your channel and i just want to say i really appreciate you. i also struggle with dpdr. it’ll be 3 years for me next month. i also struggle with agoraphobia which is something i’m trying to hard to break. it feels so good knowing i’m not alone. you are helping a lot of people. recently, i started EMDR therapy and i’ve done it before in the past and it helped so much. especially with the dissociation. i’m hoping it helps this time around too! something i struggle with the most is thinking i’m going to lose my mind or that my dpdr will manifest into something more. it’s honestly such a terrifying thing to deal with so thank you for documenting your experience and your journey 🤍 you aren’t alone!

How do you deal with depression and anxiety?
@rhysmentalhealth2521
@rhysmentalhealth2521 Год назад
In a way the longer it’s went on, the easier it has become to deal with. I think back to periods when I was extremely unwell and tell myself how I’m so much better now which gives me a little perspective. Therapy every week and mirtazapine has also taken the edge off.

Have you ever looked into those lsd places. I can remember watching some videos on these places that treat people with mental health problems and from what I can remember it did miracles for a lot of people.
@rhysmentalhealth2521
@rhysmentalhealth2521 Год назад
I’ve considered it, the main thing that concerns me is that it’s a psychedelic which is something that can likely make derealisation and depersonalisation worse so that puts me off.
@nontimebomala779
@nontimebomala779 Год назад
@@rhysmentalhealth2521 Definitely with a dose that’s high enough to cause a trip. But what I’ve been looking into is the benefits of micro dosing. It’s like a 10th of a full trip dose. Im really interested in trying this myself but finding it is somewhat of a problem. For me anyway. But I will keep trying
@VictimOfFat3
@VictimOfFat3 Год назад
Be extremely careful with psychedelics. Everyone says that they can help you heal. I listened and it definitely put another nail into my severe trauma, to the point where if I see it in a movie or something, I literally start getting anxiety symptoms. A bad trip can damage you really bad if your mind is in a very dark place.
@VictimOfFat3
@VictimOfFat3 Год назад
@@rhysmentalhealth2521 but he's suggesting you microdose... I feel like antidepressants sort of block anything that directly affects the serotonin receptors which LSD does. Meditate everyday(its a longterm process), stay social, eat healthy, try aromatherapy. And I know we're all looking for that elusive medication that just fixes everything... I know I still am. Please let me know if you find it.
