Where Mega Evolution Really Came From in Pokemon Legends Z-A 

LOL totally not complicated theory but it's my best guess for now! Let me know if you see anything wrong with it! (Still so surreal that we're able to talk about Mega Evolution again, we're in a weird timeline my dudes)

Things to note: -In the Journeys anime series, when Ash was trying to get a Lucarionite to have his Lucario Mega Evolve like Korrina’s, they had to break it out of a rock in the wild to get to it (after Lucario sensed it through aura). -In both the games and anime, a Mega Keystone needs to be held by the trainer to perform Mega Evolution. What does the keystone do, and what exactly is it? -In the games, Mega Stones can be bought for high prices or gifted to you by certain characters. This feeds into the idea that the stones are naturally occurring and found by trainers, much like someone would find gemstones and sell them in the real world. Other ideas: -What does Zygarde think about Mega Evolution? Dex entries from the games tell us that Mega Evolution is a painful process for the Pokemon, alongside their dramatic increase in strength. This could easily throw off balance if Pokemon randomly started Mega Evolving. -How old really is Mega Evolution? We know for sure that Roaring Moon’s design ties it to the Mega Evolution phenomenon, which could completely change how old we think the concept is. Was it around before Mega Rayquaza and Rayquaza’s was just the first to be seen by people? This might be a stretch considering Roaring Moon is a paradox Pokemon though.

Remember that one movie where Diancie created her own Diancite. I think mega stone are just stones with some of the Pokémon’s dna that mutated.

You forget that Origins gave us the explanation for mewtwo. Mr Fuji made the stones for it and charziard X

Going off this theory, I wouldn't be surprised if we find an Empty Mega Stone at some point in Z-A and our starters imprint on it to unlock their Mega Evolution, being the first of their kind.

I was just discussing the other day. The entire underlining theme on all Pokémon gimmicks is energy. Rayquaza mega evolved from the energy created from both astral bodies (meterorites) and the people of Hoenn's wishes. Evolution stones are canonically stones containing powerful energy for its relative type. Xerneas has the power to give life, which is a very powerful version of energy. So, mega evolution is seemingly caused by a super-energy stronger than regular energy. And there are many ways to create that super-energy-whether it be from astral bodies and wishes, supercharged energy stones, or a Pokémon who naturally wields that energy. That's my theory for mega evolution.

This idea could work really well as an implemented gimmick in Legends ZA, where you have to use template (empty) stones to create any Mega Stone using Pokémon materials you gather throughout the open world, or by battling and such. That way it wouldn't be limited to 1 stone in the whole game.

My theory is that the Pokémon that has mega forms could naturally evolve into their mega form like normal evolution but during the great Pokémon war the ultimate weapon used to end permanently drained away that power, like a locked away dna gene, to launch that big laser in the sky. The laser hit rayquaza on the way which is why it’s the only Pokémon that doesn’t need a mega stone. Once that laser hit back onto the world its power was imbued into the earth and the stones will resemble that of the dna it absorbed.

Back on the Z-A grind

Since there can be two of the mega stones, like each trainer may have a copy of their own, the theory makes enough sense.

Maaaaybe Mega stones are actual pokemon that got hit with the AZ weapon and got compressed Dang this was a good theory once we get to meteors

Let's not forget the Intriguing Stone Tierno gives you in XY, that's probably what can be used to create mega evolutions

I'm not gonna lie. When the video started, I came up with another theory that the megastones were created via the souls of the dead pokemon, the ultimate weapon killed. So the life or death energy that seeped into the souls of dead pokemon created the (soul stones) that are mega stones. This could also be what magearna's heart is made out of.

10:20 a way to circumvent this and still have it work with your original theory about the meteorites being empty mega stones is that since the Ultimate Weapon used the Azoth of several hundred Pokémon as fuel, AZ unintentionally filled the meteors with that energy. Once it broke apart, the majority decided the type of Mega Stone and the first use determined the species evolution. That would explain why some Pokémon have two, such as Mewtwo (who can inexplicably become Fighting type) and Charizard (who can receive the Dragon type people believed it to be for ages).

What if the Pokémon killed by the blast from the ultimate weapon turned into these mega stones

You forget about the Orbs that let Groudon and Kyogre undergo Primal Reversion. Also a lot of Pokemon have Dex entries for their Megas that are really dark and negative in nature. It seems like Mega Stones and Primal orbs are conduits for sealing away a Pokemon's power because it was too much for them (kinda like the Prison Bottle and Hoopa).

Instead of looking at it like the stone look like the pokemon you should think ,since its those stones that made them go mega, that the pokemon take on the colour scheme of the stones

I think all of the mega stones have the colors of their Mega form, not their base form. Notice the red of the Lucarionite.

Hot Take: They are some in-game item or concentration genome in a Pokémon world that is a Paradox for the Kalos and Hoenn Universe. Think about how SV has some Pokémon that are likely to be a teen level game where the Paradox Pokémon originate from. So a world where AZ weapon that not only destroyed the region but left it in state where Several Pokémon species died overtime and some select few survivors are endangered to the point where Pokémon are no longer used in battle. The concentration of energy is solidified and chunks of the solid are energized via the extinct souls. Somewhere along the line Hoopa was discovered and someone scattered a batch of stones in a time of very young AZ using Hoopa's power. Mewtwo could be among the perished mons of the era. Which is why there's megastones for it.

This theory can be true bcz if you remember in the anime. Korrina's father told a story about mega lucario and it very closely resembles this theory

The comet/meteor that Raquaza destroyed in the ancient past was where the mega stones came from (That is one reason Zinnia gathered a bunch to summon Rayquaza in the Delta Episode). Either a piece of it broke off or a similar comet landed and became the sundial in Anistar City in Pokemon X and Y. That is why the sundial highlights the locations of the post game mega stones I do like the idea of Mega Stones being blank slates to start with, that the essence of Pokemon gets carved into over time though

Here's a name for the "blank mega stones" IN the atmosphere for rayquaza to eat (and therefore could be the name for the "blank mega stones") - poweor (power+meteor)

I think it was shown in the anime. The empty megastone absorbed Lucario's aura, the very first Mega Evolved Pokémon.

I still believe that rather the mega stones are made from the Pokemon turned to stone from the ultimate weapon during the war or they are the crystallised life force of those Pokémon absorbed by the weapon.

It honestly makes sense. For normal Pokemon having these "empty megastones" store a pokemon's battle bond energy would explain both mega evos AND Ash-Greninja. And for certain pokemon like Diancie or Rayquaza, it could just be them exerting energy similar to battle bond to save their eco-system/maintain order similar to how Zygarde breaks down or builds up its energy for it's different forms. Also, in my mind this "battle bond" energy may not necessarily be strictly from a trainer and a pokemon. Perhaps any extenuous circumstance could cause a pokemon to obtain this energy but a trainer, in most cases, is need to store that energy into the stone to have this energy on demand. Rayquaza lives amongst meteorites and Diancie lives in the Earth with all the rocks. Also #2, mayhaps Deoxys's multiple forms are due to it being freely able to manipulate this "battle bond energy" within itself making the gem in its chest its very own megastone. Battle bond energy maybe a natural phenomena and mega stones maybe what comes from space (or AZ's weapon shot energy all around Earth and in space and "infected" random stones to be like that).

Hold on Tyranitar tube remember the - in the legends ZA logo has the accents of xerneas and yeveltal just like the mega stones have accents of other colors in them.

What if the mega stones are all philosopher stones of Pokémon so there was like a ton of sacrifices specific Pokémon to give one of them a further evolution and that’s why it hurts them cause it’s power from countless of the same pokemon

I haven't watched the video yet but I was thinking they could've possibly been bestowed upon the world by either Arceus or Zyarde/whatever the A pokemon is to combat the current "big bad", kinda thinking along the lines of lances from the series "The Beginning after the End"

Imagine if they gave you six options for starts ( 3 kalos and 3 others) and you pick one. then after you and your rival/friends pick your starter, you three find 3 neutral magestones. And whichever starter you 3 picked got the new starter megas. Then at the end of the game, those magestones follow you back to your timeline. Which would explain why we never got those megas until now, because they technically went missing from the timeline until you returned back to the present day

This theory is pretty solid, Ttar, but I think we are forgetting the one Pokémon that connects it all together. So, the concept of evolution itself, no matter how it manifests, is inextricably linked to a code structuring that is SPECIFIC to one organism, (like how each mega stone is assigned to specific Pokémon): DNA. Meteorites are a kind of “celestial stone” that serves as the possible origins of mega stones that came in contact with something that caused it to change or mutate. In the delta episode, Rayquaza came in contact with a Pokémon that came from a meteorite infused with a space virus that mutated, who we now call the DNA Pokémon. That Pokémon is Deoxys. Deoxys could be the Pokémon that inadvertently created mega stones

Good as usual, though Ttar perhaps you should check out the fact that there's a Shiny Zygarde going on in the anime right now and can't be coincidence.

Can you Imagine, one day the game just asks you which pokemon dna do you want to imprint in the mega stone. Making it possible for every pokemon to Mega Evolve.

There is a mega stone that greninja possibly had but was lost to time but it gave greninja a hidden ability to 1 every thousand years and a trainer named it battle bond greninja 😮😊

I kinda assumed that a lot of the dead pokemon from the war were those species of pokemon and their life energy solidified. After all it otherwise is weird why some pokemon can mega evolve but most cannot. Granted it doesn't make the most sense given that Primal forms are a thing as well alongside mega evolution and battle bond.

Can I top off your vanilla ‘empty mega stone’ theory, and raise you ancient Tera Orbs. If they were ancient tera orbs held by certain Pokémon, it imprinted their DNA into the orb, and created Mega Stones that access alternate timelines or Paradox pokemon’s DNA.

I have a theory on Mega evolution, but I don't know how accurate it is: My theory is its a unique form of the paradox forms. By that I mean, certain Pokemon have alternate typings in both Megas as well as Paradox forms. Charizard for example could have had its X form as a past form, before evolving into its normal typing, and further with its Y form. The only other Pokemon I think this could apply to are Gardevoir, Gallade, Salamence and Tyrannitar, which have both a Mega and Paradox form.

You have to think about Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant though. They look like the ancient Mega versions of Salamence and Gallade (or a combo of both Gallade and Gardevoir, I can't 100% decide.) So the Mega phenomenon seems a little deeper to me. I like the atmosphere aspect but maybe thats giving these Megas an ancient amplifier on top of their natural progressions

there's thisidea that megas are forms that are closer to what some pokemons used to be in the past. like how mega salamence looks like roaring moon, its past paradox form. so a Charizarditz X might be a regional starter form of the past or something that existed, and its dna was found and used or it's a stone of this color because it activates these specific dormant genes

I feel so weird about this theory, but that time when you find a mysterious stone Tierno came across, it looks like an empty Mega stone like in this vid example or at least an odd stone, but with no pokemon link I recall in OrAs you have a similar stone, which is soon identified as the Pidgeotite Also never know that detail about the meteorite before, crazy that it literally is becoming a mega stone, so maybe when AZ fired the weapon, the force pulled Meteorites down towards Kalos, where they scattered around the place It does get confusing when you think about how Hoenn got Mega Stones too tho, maybe Deoxys had similar energy in it's meteor it was in, or something like that, but they were there before Deoxyx, maybe there was a different Deoxys before that even, but idk, too much to think about

I feel that mega stones are the left over remains of Pokemon that where hit by the blast of the ancient weapon

I feel like X and Y's "life energy" is based on DNA, its on the keystones, it explains zygardes cell like structure, and its the foundation of life itself. Only a few other pokemon come to mind in terms of DNA pokemon, but the obvious ones are mew and mewtwo. If the life force energy is indeed DNA based, then there's probably a good chance it's Mew's ancestral DNA thats changing the "blank" megastones into ones for specific pokemon.

Is it just me or do the mega stones start to look like eyes the more you look at them? Like the more you look at a mega stone you can kind of make out an eye like the colors in the middle that's the pupil and then you know the color of the eye green or whatever other color and then in the shape of a circle just like an eye. A shiny Pearl eye maybe I'm just going crazy but you can't tell me that doesn't look like an eye the mega stones

I've always believed Charizardite X was made in a lab, partially due to how Alain and Red get theirs from scientists and partially how when shiny, Mega Charizard X has similar colors to Salamence (starting in XY shiny colors were chosen rather than being decided by a palette shift)

I believe mega evolution came from Rayquaza, as all subsequent gimmicks were attributed to the third legendary of the region. That and Rayquaza itself having a mega much like the subsequent third legendaries having a stronger form with their gimmick.

I don't see mega evolution as a gimmick i see it more as a important part of the world of pokemon.

the only thing(s) i disagree with how is how the "blank" stones were made. like i feel it would make more sense if it was more indirect, like the condensed life energy fire from the weapon attached to preexisting stones or what not, and then those rocks formed into blank stones. and that the meteorites rayquaza eats naturally has that life energy in it. other than that this is spot on!

The theory about "empty megastones" is incorrect and you should know that, it is explicitling stated in the games that mega stones were ordinary stones before being transformed by the meteor. Alpha Sapphire Extreme literally built its story around the creation of mega stones, Extreme just reconned it to be from Peeko and Latias/Latios rather than the meteor.
