I never get tired of this movie, friggin classic!!! “I bet the Chinese food here is terrible”...”how do you get mud in your tires?”...”are you mocking me with that outfit?”...”how do you cook a grit anyways?”😂😂😂
Thanks for the video look around Monticello. Was born there and spent a lot of time visiting relatives there over the years. Has been many years since I've seen the place, but there doesn't seem to be too many changes. Can't tell you how many times we drove by the Sac O Suds on the way to visit grandparents. It was always good for a laugh. I first saw the movie on a flight from Atlanta to Portland, Oregon. All though the movie, I kept wondering why everything seemed so familiar to me. Wasn't until we landed and I was walking off the plane that it hit me that I was looking at pictures of my hometown. Was told that the locals dated every event in town relative to the time the film crew was there shooting. Anything notable happened either before the movie or after the movie. BTW, the Sheriff Tillman referred to at the end of the movie was actually sheriff of Jasper County at one time.
Ah, Monticello, my father’s hometown. Congratulations on pronouncing it correctly. Few buildings seem to change, only the businesses in them. There are some nice casual restaurants there.
Only maybe 5 years ago did I learn about how many interior locations are actually sets. I'm kinda split about it. On one hand it's a bit of a bummer learning that they were not actual places, but on the other hand it's actually amazing as to just how great and legit they made them look.
Some places are too small for the cameras, hard to rig with lights, too noisy, or simply aren't able to get permission granted for filming. The entire cell block interior in _The Shawshank Redemption_ was a set built from scratch.
Some people were mad that Jack Palance didn't win it that year for City Slickers. After watching this movie, I think she deserved it because she played such a great character and Palance in City Slickers just played a slightly tougher version of himself.
Awesome job dude. I love that you respect cinematography enough to get those really deep cuts like the abandoned white house and the barn. Places most people wouldnt think to cover. I come from a small town so for me, these little shots in movies always make me feel nostalgic. Not always the main attractions
I live in Nicholson Ga and pass the remains of the hotel on Hwy 441S. Yes, I believe it burned down. Also had the pleasure of going to Monticello often when I lived in Covington. Beautiful town. Bostwick was right up the road as well. Many great memories seeing these places all in one great movie. Thank you for filming this.
Thank you for all the effort you put into making this video. One of the greatest comedic films ever made with such awesome actors and beautiful Americana location. Ode to sleepy little towns🎉🎉🎉
The frame at 6:48, I remember motels like that. Strip neon all the way around the building and in the case of an L-shaped building, the ice and soda machines were in the breezeway of the L. As kids, my sister and I would race to the ice machine for the free ice and the 5 cent Cokes. You really scored big if the parents stopped at a place with a pool AND a TV!! For us, it was the early 1950s, long before Holiday Inn and the Interstate highways. Memories.
Thank You for share this video clip was film movie. I love Tuna on hotter summers days. Just watch few days ago. Finally found my tv plug in. Thank You. Plus crazy nut dr or nut president all these crazy lockdown. In 2020. One funny film movie. Thank you got watch it this year 2021. All greatest actors and songs . One by Travis Tritt
Great job and well done! I can’t believe how much you not only sound like Adam but also how you produce a very similar style of video. I’m going to subscribe.
Ahhh, I knew this would turn out well, great work! It was cool meeting you; though it's sad to see that motel got demo'd. At least the sign and cafe remained, so not a total loss. I'm excited to start checking out more of your videos (once my data refills), I'm sure you're aware of it, but if you're ever way up north, a Shawshank location tour is pretty worthwhile. Thanks for sharing, and again, nice talking to you!
So cool. I’m happy you found the video buddy . It was so awesome running into you out there. I haven’t been to the Shawshank tour but I have friends that have been, and it looks awesome.. I look forward to checking it out for myself one day. Hope you had a fun time out there with your camera and got back home safe.
@@TampaJay Oh yeah, it was quite a productive day...got home around 10pm with tons of pics and no casualties. Definitely have to do a Georgia run again; perhaps a more thorough My Cousin Vinny location run. Glad you made it back safe, and have this awesome video to show for it. Good luck with your future adventures, I subscribed, so I'll be keeping an eye out for them!
Wahzoo, eh? There's a joke in there somewhere. My Cousin Vinny was a cute movie. You did a great job matching up these filming locations. Say hello to the tuna can for me, and you both stay safe! Thanks, Jay!
Visited last week ,Sac o Suds is back open as of May 2021. New owners re opened and fixed the place up and kept same signage. You can rent canoe from new deck on back for the river that runs behind it .
I appreciate this I drive Georgia 16 from Griffin to Monticello almost every day. The Sac of suds was the name way before the movie it was there in the late 70s and 80s we use to go there before we went to Jackson lake
I really enjoyed this road trip. Seeing those familiar places was fun. A movie you could track down that's close to you is "Flight of the Navigator". Many of the Jacksonville locations could be found. Just a suggestion.
I grew up in Jasper County and went to school in Monticello. My Cousin Vinny was being filmed when I was a senior in high school. I recall after school I would drive by the filming set on the Monticello Square. If I recall correctly, the Sac-O-Suds was owned at that time by my friend’s boyfriend’s family. It has gone through multiple ownership changes over the years. As another poster mentioned, the Sheriff Tillman mentioned at the end of the movie was indeed the sheriff of Jasper County (served for 16 years). Monticello hasn’t changed much over the years. It’s a sleepy little town and seems content to stay that way (understandably). There are quite a lot of movies and shows filmed in and around that area (state tax credits and such that have made Georgia a very attractive state to film in). Cheers!
My grandfather used to live in Buckhead, Ga. Not the one close to Atlanta, but the one in Morgan County, not far from Madison. Both of which are close to Edenton, Ga, the town where the General Putnam is close to. Up until his death in 1999, every month or so, my family and I would travel from Augusta, Ga, and go to church with he and his wife, and he always insisted we go to the General Putnam restaurant, for their Sunday Buffet. I don’t know if the buffet was available during the week, but they did have it on Sundays. But the counter where Vinny and Mona were eating breakfast, didn’t exist when we used to bring my Grandfather to eat there. That area was where the buffet was located. The restaurant closed up sometime between 2002-2007, not exactly sure. But the Motel was still opened for several more years after that. My husband and I stopped by there when we were on vacation one year, about 8 or 9 years ago, and the motel was still opened, but it looked like it was mostly being used by construction workers. The last time we were there was in March of 2016, and the motel had been torn down,
Love when you take us to filming locations! Cool to see the differences between the movie and today. Monticello? Have you been to Jefferson's Monticello? That would be an interesting place to visit
@@TampaJay i,ve watched this more than once while laid up with covid,& also watched my cousin vinny last night again, for the 1800th time 🤣🤣 thanks again sir, legend. ❤👍
This bit of information was so pleasantly unexpected... I've always loved this movie but this is the first time I've ever delved about it.. exciting 😄.... I'm sitting in Jasper county South Carolina right this second... I live here and was raised here, though I left for 20 years, but I came back cause there's no place like home 👟👟... Cool video ❤️
Good news Sac O Suds is back open and actually sells Two Yutes Tuna there - you should stop by next time in fact they have a few things like t-shirts when they can keep in stock - we have stopped twice this last year
@13:59 My husband and I have been in that old house before. We stopped one day at a yards sale that was across the street at that place you show where they turned right at the barn. The house would have really been on the left hand side of that road. The man having the yards sale told us someone bought the house in the 70's and just never fixed it up. I used to dream of buying that old house and fixing it up. At one time it was a beautiful house. I haven't seen it in several years though. I don't know if it's still there or if anyone has fixed it up or not. I thought I'd share that with you. Plus I have a stepsister that lives in Bostwick GA. I'm glad I found this video. Thank you for sharing!!
WOW. I grew up around that area of Georgia and I love that movie. I knew it was filmed in GA, but didn't realize I've driven past many of the locations so often! I've driven through Bostwick, GA so many times! My wife and I love that old white abandoned house that you drove up to. That thing has looked like that for years, and we always wonder why anyone would let a beautiful, historic house like that just rot away?
@@richardcranium3417 Thats true, but what a beautiful Gem you'd have restored! Those houses are the cornerstone of the town's character were. Living clues, if you will...
It's interesting like so many places around rural America that the railroad tracks are long gone to line no longer used but they still stand in that same intersection where the crossing signals and the train station still is
Has anyone ever told you that you sound a lot like Adamthewoo? You could be a voice stand in for him lol. Great vid, I'm going to go check the rest of your vids now.
I looked through your videos and didn't see a Dukes of Hazzard video, although, I may have overlooked it. The Dukes of Hazzard was filmed in Covington. You wasn't too far from The Boar's Nest, it's a small church now.
Thanks my friend I mentioned it in the previous video before this one but no, I have not done a Dukes video. I used to frequent Covington when I was a kid because my mom’s best and life-long friend lived there. There used to be a Dukes museum right on the square and it’s how I first learned of the show. Thanks for watching Gary. I hope to track down some Dukes locations someday
It would have been a completely different movie if Fred Gwynne had worn Herman Munster's makeup and judge's robes during his scenes. Marisa Tomei would never have kept a straight face on the stand. She was so good in that part, and so gorgeous. 😁
What is the location of that lovely cabin? The logs, the structure; it's just amazing that 200 years ago, without power tools, they could take a tree, drag it out of the woods, and by hand, with handmade tools, shape it into the beautiful homestead it became.
Another great video Tampa Jay!! I haven't seen that movie in awhile...now I'm going to have to watch it! Try Wild Planet tuna...it tastes so much better than the others! Thanks for all your research and narration! Well done@
