I just came across this video, and as I watched it, you showed respect for those that lost these units. I drove for a towing company for over 25 years with most of those driving heavy to chase tractor trailers and such. I also chased many RV’s of various sizes over the years. Some, as you stated were fires of various types. Some were on the side of peoples homes and caught fire, as well as in the side of the road. Some were even in campgrounds or RV parks. I remember the smell and seeing not only the damage to the RV, but in many cases, the owners faces. I also have seen how much damage can occur during an accident. We were also contracted by 2 salvage companies to pick up these units for insurance companies and bring them to holding yards only to be auctioned off at a later date. Seeing RV’s damaged always hit home. I grew up camping with my parents and have continued this family tradition with my family. I have met a lot of wonderful people in my many years of camping, and thinking that anyone can suffer the loss of an RV, or any type of camping trailer really bothers me. As you said, that no one was probably in any of these RV’s when the fire occurred, which is true. I did see a few from motor vehicle accidents, but not too bad. Thankfully. Again, thank you for showing people the other side of RVing. Though, not pleasant, or often, it can happen. Please be safe in your travel and enjoy the ride!!

I'm a retired Fire Capt. The main reason that RV's and mobile homes burn so fast is that they're built using kiln dried wood, for weight savings. Once they caught fire they were usually burned to the ground by the time we got there. And our response times from the station averaged 2 or 3 minutes.
@Rvlove
@Rvlove 5 лет назад
Amazing how fast they can burn to the ground. Great point on components.
@sugrue8526
@sugrue8526 Месяц назад
The main reason they catch on fire is poor quality assembly. Our 2017 class A had all the sawdust and hole saw cut outs laying around the propane fired heater box under the refrigerator with electrical wire looms about. The second reason is the first combined with slobs, but many are naively innocent to thinking they paid for quality and the national fire marshal approved sticker on the entryway

I own a Super C motorhome and seeing this video was a real eye opener to me about RV safety. The reason why I love Super Cs is because you have all of that metal in front of you to protect you in case of a crash. I learned so much from this .Our RV had a blowout back in 2012 and it pulled us straight into the highway divider. We all walked away with no injuries and all the RV needed was a new hood, headlight, bumper, and obviously a new tire. I was so thankful we had a Super C. Most of these salvage Class A motorhomes look like they're held up by plastic and plywood. Never buy a cheaply built motorhome. It could cost you your life. RV manufacturers should see this video in order to learn more about RV safety and implement things that make the RV more safe into their coaches. This was a fantastic video. Safe travels 👍🏻.
@Rvlove
@Rvlove 4 года назад
Thank you for your compliments about our video, and very glad to hear that you were safe in your blowout related incident. Agreed that Super C coaches are likely much safer in general than Class A coaches in collisions. More in front of the driver, and the cab area is likely safer environment, and of course additional doors to exit in the event of an incident. Thanks again and safe travels. -M

There is a lot of industry discussion about how many RV's are sold each year vs how many are on the roads. But on our last trip, and even where I live, it is amazing to see how many RV's in various ages and states of condition are in the yards and fields of home owners across the country. That's where they all are. Incredible.
@Rvlove

So true - many of them sit idle in yards or storage, not used often.

Hate to type it out but I got tears seeing what was once someone’s home, the music was very appropriate and moving. I felt like I was watching a documentary. This is one of your best videos!
@Rvlove

Thank you Joe. We were a bit unsure how it would be received, as it's very different to anything else we've done... but we felt it was a powerful reminder of how we need to be safe and take precautions with our RVs... it was definitely an emotional experience being there. And while we have received some criticism (from a couple of others) about the music choice, we felt it was appropriate and reflective of the footage... and how we felt while we were walking through them, but also intentionally finished with a much lighter track to lift moods again. Above all, we are very encouraged by how much this video has moved people to really prioritize tire and fire safety. That can only be good for everyone! Thanks for the kind words.

That's why if you see Chinese brand (not necessarily made in china), you replace them. Also, change your driving habit when you tow or drive an RV. Those tires are rated not more than 70mph. And no overload!

Thank you so very very much for making this video. My husband use to sell and put tires on RV'S. So many people thought "oh there's plenty of tread, their ok". And then BAM! They have a blowout. And damage is done to the RV. Yes Class A tires aren't cheap. None of them really are. I just about had a heart attack when I paid for last set of tires last year. But just knowing that you are safer going down the road is a good peace of mind. And some people will try to overload their fuse boxes. Or when something is recalled, not get it in to be fixed. And not having their RV serviced to check the roof, fuses, LP fuel lines, tires and so much more. It may cost but your more safer in the end. Thank thank you for making this video. Hopefully it will help people be more aware. And it's nice to know of a place to go to find replacement parts. Cause they don't make Sun Voyagers anymore. Thank you and have nothing but Safe Travels
@Rvlove
@Rvlove 5 лет назад
Thank you! This is exactly what we had hoped for! Greater awareness around safety. and RVers taking more responsibility for the safety of their RVs and themselves personally, and others! So many things can go wrong, but they don't have to with care and diligence. Safety is always priority #1. Thanks for sharing the experience of you and your husband for the benefit of others. RV tires and maintenance is an important part of planning and budgeting for RV life. this is NOT something to cheap out on!

The reason so much stuff was left behind in those RVs that had fires were because of smoke damage. You cannot get that smell out and so perfectly good items are trashed because of it. I have dealt with a house fire aftermath before and you don't just lose the things that burned up, you lose things that get smoke damage as well. It's really difficult to process and deal with.
@Rvlove

I might add, I realized long ago that RV Fires are very common in 3 area's the Generator, the Fridge, and the Engine! I spent about $1.100 for a Passive System that uses FFF Foam, the Best Fire Suppressant, available of any type! Expensive for a reason! They are Plumbed into each system, and have a Sensor just like you see in Ceilings in Commercial Buildings whereas a Glass Vial Breaks and Automatically Extinguishes the fire, much better than even the Halon Products did! If you have a Powder Based Fire Extinguisher, (CO2, etc.) all I can say is "Good Luck, as it MAY (?) put a fire out" But the Powder needs professional removal, as it gets absolutely everywhere! And I do not know of a Pressurized Passive/Automatic Method for them either, maybe the Halon, but not them! Those two agents do Extinguish Fires, but in the case of RV's a Fuel Source in all 3 Area's of Concern, can continue if there is a Leak, or it was Burnt in the event of a Fire! Triple F, as we called it in the Service is Genuinely a Best Piece of mind! Great Video, and I stopped and looked very closely, I saw NO Extinguishing Systems! Save up your Pennies, because Most Deductibles for Insurance is more than a Proper Deterrent, in the form of the Triple F Foam product which once it extinguishes the fire, it lays down a Blanket of foam long after a Heat Source could REFLASH the same fire, that's the true benefit of Foam!

I am a survivor from a horrific house fire one of my Giamt Schnauzer's, Libby saved my life in. I lost her and 5 more animals. I was able to save my 5 surviving GS. The foam was used on my home during the fire and after to lay down about a foot of wet foam to prevent anything sparking up. I had no reason to know about the foam but was amazed at how quickly it helps kill a big fire.
@immrnoidall

a Passive System that uses FFF Foam,and auto fuel shutoff. should be required by law. $1100 is a small cost compared to the price of these RV's. if they make a run-flat tire for the front ,that could save lives.

The town I used to live near was home to Country Coach. so many people worked there. I know they were very well thought of.That was more than twenty years ago. My friends grandson worked there and his job was to go to coaches that needed special service so he was always on the road all over the country. Thanks for the tour, it was pretty amazing. I really didn’t care to see all the footage on the fire damage etc., it was too long and really kind of too much of the same old damage and felt negative but the end that showed the part i was really interested in on the warehouse parts and what they had to offer was really 😎 cool! Thanks so much again!!! 👍😋

You are welcome. It definitely is not our usual uplifting and inspiring kind of video, and yes, a bit of repetition, but we did not mind that, as the visual imagery can be so shocking it is easy not to allow the message to sink in at first, so I intentionally left the repetition in there... and while it may have felt negative and a bit gloomy, we are glad to see (and read in the comments) that the video is having a much desired positive effect - and that is educating people in a way that empowers them to be more conscious about what CAN happen and ultimately make better, more responsible and safer decisions about taking care of their RVs - and be more mindful of how they can help reduce the risk of fires and tire blowouts. Cheers!

Beware of front generators and right front tire flats. The flapping debris can take out the fuel line to the generator. That means fire blocking the door--the only exit you could count on. Three adults perished a few years ago along the freeway in Arizona or Nevada when that happened. They could not get out the back "exit" window. Passersby frantically tried, but could not get them out....

RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett that’s so true. When compared to how many Rv/trailers are out there, the amount they have isn’t a lot, which is reassuring. I think it would be more devastating for full timers b/c it’s their main residence & their belongings that a vacationer would keep at their main house are with them. Most likely.

My thinking exactly on the tires. These vehicles do not get driven on a regular basis and as such are subject to dry rot. Get one out on the road at highway speed and the tire just gives up because it has rotted and can no longer hold the air pressure.
@Rvlove

Yes, that is definitely a problem for RVs. Plus, the tires are put under large weight strain when used.

From someone in the RV business, most of those refrigerator fires are caused by lack of or improper maintenance on the LP system supply to the fridge. To be fair, I have never seen one catch fire.

Over the years a common thing I have seen with luxury motor homes is that they are speeding. I think there is a psychology among some of these entitled drivers that they are somehow immune and invulnerable to the calamities that befall ordinary people. They have the money to buy and operate a monster RV, but not necessarily the knowledge and background for operating heavy vehicles. Blowouts are not only a matter of tire aging. Speeding is not only a matter of exceeding the posted limit; it is a matter of driving within the limits of your vehicle and personal limitations. Believing you are the master of the universe is a dangerous attitude.
@Rvlove
@Rvlove 5 лет назад
Malcolm we could not agree more! So many drivers of ALL kinds of RVs seem to drive at speeds they would in a passenger vehicle, oblivious to fact that a) they don't have the ability to maneuver or stop as easily, and b) the tires are not always rated for higher speeds like that. A couple of years ago, we were overtaken on I-80 by a large 45' luxury motorhome at such a speed i did not even have time to grab my phone and capture it, even though Marc pre-warned me they were coming up behind us super fast. They flew by at around 90mph we estimate... couldn't believe it... a few miles down the road, we saw them pulled over by Highway Patrol. Needless to say we ended up ahead of them and they ended up losing the time they thought they were gaining by speeding. Driving that fast is just not safe for anyone...and we always caution RVers on speed. Not to mention fuel economy plummets over 60mph.
@malcolmmarzo2461
@malcolmmarzo2461 5 лет назад
@@Rvlove As an aviator I am used to calculating trips with the time-distance-speed equation. When I do this with auto trips it is surprising how little time you "save" by driving, say,10 MPH over the limit. Just a few minutes typically. If people realized this some might reconsider their speeding. But people are just 20% rational--on a good day : -) That's why I feel safer flying 2000 feet over a highway, rather than being down there.

As a semi truck driver, my 2 pet peeves are 1. When they pass me, and move back to in front of me in my lane they about clip my front bumper with their rear one. 2. Are not paying attention to the merging lanes, and don't merge properly.
@malcolmmarzo2461
@malcolmmarzo2461 5 лет назад
@@lilliearizona Out here in Nevada this kind of driver often has California plates. I figure people from urban areas are conditioned to be on top of each other. So they like bumper-to-bumper. Even when there is room to spread out cars a quarter mile apart.
@malcolmmarzo2461
@malcolmmarzo2461 5 лет назад
@@lilliearizona You are right on. Attention is a large factor nowadays. Some people tell me, "I like driving. It gives me a chance to relax." I think this is the wrong mindset on the highway. A better mindset is to be in survival mode. Sometimes combat mode : -)
