The last few years have been a horror fan's dream, with a flood of new game announcements and developers diving headfirst into the genre. This surge in creativity is largely thanks to indie developers, who are shaking up the industry and giving triple-A studios a run for their money. However, this also means we're drowning in trailers and gameplay footage for games that have been in the works for ages, with no release date in sight. We've been teased with jaw-dropping footage of both triple-A and indie horror titles, but the wait is starting to feel endless.

I had a feeling a State of Decay 3 trailer would drop in Xbox's Showcase, and it did. That's why I left that possibility open in the video lol. However, to be honest, I'm still not convinced. No gameplay, no release date, and it feels like the game is being reimagined. A CGI trailer 4 years after the announcement makes me feel that it is still in limbo.

To be fair game development cycles are longer than they ever were before and many indie devs are not full blown AAA-dev veterans who make their game in spare time, but first timers. It's hard to predict how long development can take when you have nothing to measure yourself on. Many are also incredibly ambitious, sometimes too much for you own good.

rule 1: Never trust a game that looks impressive in its trailer, coming from a small studio with no past. Remember that even multi-million dollar companies would have a hard time delivering that. rule 2 Never pre-order

I'm not surprised about Ill. I used to follow the lead artist Vdovenko and it's undeniable he's very talented. However as NFTs appeared he went immediately into it and started insulting his own community and displaying shady behaviour when people questioned his morals. It's gonna be a "trust me bro" moment because most of those tweets are now deleted but I'm sure there's a few screenshots floating around of him attacking his own followers (who mind you weren't even rude to him as far as I'm concerned). TL;DR dude is truly talented but also very sketch so if Ill turns out to be fake I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest

I put it on my dog that Ill will never come out at all. I know that because the lead guy was making cinematic animations with FPS-like HUDs and then people caught on to that and were saying things like 'Imagine if this was a game'' and that's when the whole Ill thing started happening. Dude's not a game dev, just an animator

I don’t think it boils down to triple A studios not capable of making something of such high caliber, but rather does the studio and their share holders want to invest the funds it is going to take to pull it off.

Allegedly, P.T.'s full release was going to be nothing like P.T. It wasn't going to feature first-person gameplay, the concept of looping areas, nor the mystery behind the deceased wife and baby. Not sure how true is that, but it's possible since Silent Hill is a drastically different concept from P.T. in every way. The only similarities they may share is a time loop, but still not in the trippy and ominous manner that P.T. displays.

It’s the fact that people believe that a small dev team is capable of creating such a fluid looking game in a reasonable amount of time that even a triple a studio would struggle with says more about the idiots falling for it let alone funding it without actual evidence that its real

I have worked with enough art-led indie studios to tell you that MOST indie games like that are made with no consideration about the story and gameplay until much later in development, when funding has been secured. Every time you see a cool looking trailer, it is usually either a high effort portfolio piece or a rugpull by artists with 0 plan.

Reason Ill went silent, they publish most of their stuff only on their patreon. The team making the game were literally just making creepy videos before, then decided to make a game. So they're basically learning how to code a game while they're making it.

I've been waiting for Routine since I graduated high school. That was in 2009. It's still not out, but it's got a Steam page and a new trailer, so you know, maybe I'll finally get to play it on a Playstation 7.

According to developer, 'Wronged Us' might come out end of this year or early next year. Same dev also assured that development of game is going great and that they don't have any problems with dev team or anything else. At least this is what that particular dev have been saying in 'Wronged Us' Steam hub.

One that used to be in this limbo state for a while is True Fear: Forsaken Souls 3, but on Facebook, the devs made an update post a couple weeks ago saying it’s going to be out around Halloween this year. Also, I still have hope for Senscape’s Asylum since on Discord, they’ve been saying beta versions have been going out to Kickstarter backers the past few months. (And they’ve actually been posting updates about development way more often than the games in the video 😂)

It is a real game. They are still working on it But it seems they have some copyright issues or something to clean before releasing anything new. They said on patreon there is a new Trailer already finished & some insights are gonna be released so soon. They hired the voice Autor from leon in resident evil so I highly doubt this is no fake. 100 % sure this is evolved to something so much bigger than what they thought it's gonna be. I can wait so much longer for this game. Because if it lives up to the expectations it's gonna be genre defining for other horror games.

I've been waiting on a game called Asylum since 2013, since backing it on Kickstarter. It went into beta in Jan of this year, exactly 11 years later. But, unlike some of the games on this list, the Senscape devs have been posting fairly regular updates, footage, stills and audio clips. It doesn't feel as bad when the devs aren't silent.

sometime people mistake UE5 Scenes for a game even media talks about how someone made old game into new using ue5 but in facts its actually a portfolio scene to get hired in the industry. even the artist don't clarify this, I don't know why they do that but maybe because they see a potential and star working on it only to realize its not that easy to make video games, I am also a game environment artist.

i think devs underestimate that the work needed to bring a proof of concept to a finished product is exponential. So many great idea left on the shelf because of a lack of manpower and money.

Some of the video's used that you showed for Ill were never promoted as gameplay. They're personal projects that Oleg created like Forest god. The video that you got the footage from got random videos from his channel and old gameplay and compiled it all together and named it "ILL New Gameplay Demo 15 Minutes 4K". Even in the description of the video says that. Just felt like that should be cleared up.

I was actually clear by saying "It was promoted as gameplay" on RU-vid, which is the point. The fact that the developers let those videos get seen by millions without making any clarification is an obvious hint that they don't care and there's no "game" in the first place. Those videos are simply free marketing for their work, and they know it.

One game I'm excited for, but also worried about, is ROUTINE. That game has been in development since before Alien Isolation came out (so yeah, LONG development time!!) It last got showed I think last year??? (maybe the year before) and we haven't seen anything since, which is why I'm worried that it's ONCE AGAIN stuck in development hell and therefore might get cancelled.... though it's gotten funding from Microsoft, so hopefully we might see it during the Microsoft showcase??? I don't know but I'm at least holding out hope 🤞

I think Ill is not another "The Day Before" scam, but I am sure not a single code of the game has been written. The lead is just an animator who made an amazing demo reel and is looking for investors, but lying to get the game funded is not a good option. It seems this guy is not aware of the Abandoned fiasco.

I can't remember the name, but I remember seeing a trailer around 2020 for a game where you are a firefighter. You are called to a lab/oil rig out on a small island for a massive. You get there to find the place is over run with creatures and suddenly you have to survive and escape. I have not seen anything or anyone talk about it since I first saw the trailer. Anyone know anything on that?

I think that ILL game is just a huge animated cut scene. Down to even where the main character is in the hall way fighting the zombie creatures. The way the gun shoots the swivel of the crosshair looks forced and NOT snappy like it would for real game play. Thats probably why most people are thinking it’s gonna come out one day. Because thats “real game play”. It probably wont honestly. It’s probably a rendering show case or just something for the artists portfolio and nothing more. Of course this is just my thoughts on it.

Luto it wasn´t cancelled but it´s kinda weird that we don´t see a new trailer or tease,kinda disapointing. The cancelled Allison Road hurted me so bad back then,it was goood and they were asking money to finish it i don´t remeber where but it´s very known by the people that you can pay to let them know we want a game and then with that money work to get it done,but even if they get paid we never saw Allison Road.

I remember almost the same thing happened with No More Room in Hell 2. It was a day from coming out, but the last second, they decided to switch it to unreal engine 5. That was in 2021, I think

I can't remember the name of the game at all (for all i knowit could've came out with no fan fair), but there was this game announced at a Playstation direct where you, played as a little demon creature in the viking age. there wasn't much shown other than stealth gameplay, but I was excited none the less.

You should look into what oleg Vdovenko is actually doing now. It's not correct to say that his latest uploads were presented as gameply for ILL. The origiAL uploads from the artist had no mention of ILL whatsoever, people have assumed that it was.

Ah, the Art of the Bullshot, cutscenes that are supposed to be depictions of gameplay that are, sadly, absolute bullshit. A few of these seem like they were made to be games, but having dumped too many resources into the Bullshots, and then realized that the game itself can never live up to the hype they've generated.

Ill is easily the one I think of when I think of horror games I'm still not sure if they are even real. It's so hard to tell if any of the footage is real gameplay, or just a movie. The footage in this video is some I've not seen before though, which is cool. I've mostly seen the weird monsters in what looks like a house or mansion that were fought with the double barreled shotgun. It was so hard to tell if that was real or not, or just some type of animation.

I'm sorry. You ought not be talking about assessing games trailers if you are STILL referring to the trailers for 'ill' as 'gameplay' trailers. They NEVER were. They were 100% pre-rendered sequences and anyone with any background in development or 3D animation could see that right off the bat. FFS the crosshairs are a post-effect slapped on over top, that is TOTALLY desynced from what is actually going on. That's assuming you weren't clued in by the unnaturally smooth and precise camera movement. Pre-rendered 'in-engine' footage is NOT gameplay and anyone marketing it as such should IMMEDIATELY be given the third degree and assumed to be either an outright scammer, or writing checks their skills can't actually cash. It is BEYOND frustrating seeing so much hype-train nonsense going on for projects that don't exist, and people who DO point out the issues getting buried by a ton of ignorant people who are fanboying over something that doesn't even exist. It's made WORSE when YTers, even those with a relatively small audience, jump on that hype train and talk up the nonexistent product, because that just lends validity to the BS.

most of these games will never come out. The problem we face today is some indie game creators are fake. some are legit, but a lot are not. which could result in another video game crash like the one in the early 80's. saturated the market with too many unplayable games, or in this case too many playable trailers and no games. which could result in a crash on the indie market, which may or may not affect the mainstream. However, people will not trust indi creators if this keeps up.
