In the roadside assistance business, insurance is the hardest things to attain and one of the most important things for your business to have. Having the correct insurance will save you from any unwanted accidents & lawsuits, it will also enable you to attain more contracts, as many contracts have a minimum insurance requirement.
There are two or three types of insurance you will be expected to have, based on the contracts you hold.
1. General Liability - 1,000,000-5,000,000
2. Garage Keepers/on Hook - 50,000 - 500,000
3. Commercial Auto Insurance - 100,000 - 1,000,000
Agents & underwriters decide what you pay based on 3 criteria. Knowing the criteria will give you the best shot at attaining affordable insurance
.
1. Driving Record - how long and how many points you have on record
2. Experience in Business - Prior Exp, past jobs, background, etc.
3. Projected Revenues - How much you expect to make.
A bad driving record means that you will most likely be a liability to an insurance company so make sure to have a good driving record and if you don’t, get it right before you apply. A few instances such as a speeding ticket can mean the difference in paying $70 per month vs $150-200 per month.
Experience is also a factor. If a 10-year truck driver who worked for X company for 10+ years now wants to enter business themselves, many underwriters won’t have an issue writing the policy as long as a good driving record is attained. Now, you put someone that has 3 months Exp and wants to do the same, an underwriter may consider higher premiums or may not be willing to write the policy at all, due to lack of experience.
Revenue is another factor. If you expect to make 200,000 in your first year you can expect your insurance to be higher than if you expect to make 50k your fits a year etc. Vice Versa.
How Underwriters Collect Info
Underwriters will typically send you information packets where you will provide this information along with other personal info. Be weary of your answers and always be truthful. Any deception can void a claim if the insurance company decides to audit, avoid this at all costs.
Where to Attain Coverage
Once you find that you have the best odds of getting a low premium. You will want to know where to get insurance. If you don’t have commercial insurance already be sure to call your insurance agent and tell him you want to ensure a commercial vehicle used for business, and they will do a good job of giving you some options. Be sure to shop around and get several quotes before you make your decisions as premiums from company to company can differ drastically.
If none of these insurance companies are underwriting at the time, try in a month or so after. Insurance companies mitigate risk. This means that they have limits on how much risk they are willing to undertake during a time period. Risk is mitigated all the time. This means that one month, a company may be able to offer you a quote but next month that same company won’t. Use this to your advantage and know that just because one company said no doesn’t mean the next will.

Your insurance guy lied to you. The general Liability covers if you are in their car so does the auto liability the hook up insurance is for if the tow tuck tears the under carriage or if the car isnt strapped down correctly on the tow truck. the garage insurance is for the property if something happens on the property that damages the car. find a better insurance company bro they are screwing you.

Holy. For 3 tow trucks here in FL. $300k General Liability. Auto Liability- Bodily Injury $100k, Property Damage $100k, On Hook $50k and Garage Keepers $50k and I'm quoted $32,744 a year.. what am I missing 😕 My goodness a payment of $2914.47 a month when just starting out is painful.. especially starting with no leads.. 1 at a time I guess..but still the quotes here are way higher than the numbers your talking.

It looks like they are charging almost $1000 for each truck. Try insuring just one truck and go from there. In my opinion $3k is cheap for 3 trucks. If you can keep all 3 trucks moving daily you can make that money within a week.

In NJ, you need a $1M policy coverage across the board. No excuses. Cheapest I found was $750 a month for one rollback.

Over 6 grand a month for me LMAO and I have a vw Touareg and my equipment in it........clearly I will not get commercial auto insurance insurance and only general liability which is less than $60 a month. (biBerk).Florida in a nutshell, they force us to not carry all the required insurance because no regular guy can afford one.
@yoadriaaannn
@yoadriaaannn 9 месяцев назад
I keep getting quoted over 6 grand a month for the million dollar coverage which is needed to work w/ any company that dispatches a regular guy's roadside assistance "business". Nowadays all you need is jack, jumpstart, lockout kit and a 2 gallon fuel container and you have a roadside business and using any small vehicle. But for some ludicrous reason in Florida, we get quoted over 6 grand a month for commercial auto insurance......over 70 grand a year LMAO.....what the heck am I missing?!?!

Wtf so for anyone to start a road assistance gig you need over $30 k for insurance , I have owned a small cleaning co for over 20 years , and my works man comp , and liability together only cost me $1400 per year , not matter you make $10k or $300 k a year , but the reason why I am checking this gig is because I need flexibility when I work .

I have garage keepers insurance as well. the way my agent explained it to me was while a car is up on a jack technically you're the one in possession and in control of the vehicle. I think it's lawyer b.s. but whatever.

So they classify non-towing service as if it was towing... Is it just me or is that kinda B.S.? I'm sure the rates would be much better if they didn't insure me for driving a hundred plus thousand dollar truck. Rather just as my 2011 Ford focus.... isn't that a little shady? And so far the only company Ive found that does Insure roadside assistance is progressive. So I'm stuck with the policy amount no matter what! How lame is that?
@joeblack007
@joeblack007 Год назад
Yup. The only towing insurance I could afford is with Progressive. $750 a month for an old rollback. Coverage is $1M policy across the board. You cannot have lower than $1M in NJ. DMV will not issue commercial plates without it.
