Which Flowers Seeds can be sown in July? Well July is a fantastic month to sow flower seeds to enhance the flowers that you have already sown over the last few months and to ensure a prolonged and lovely burst of colour and fragrance throughout the summer period and beyond.
Flowers are also excellent companions for your vegetable garden and will attract pollinators and other insects to help benefit your fruit and vegetables.
In this video I share with you 8 different flower varieties that I will be sowing in July to provide you with one or two suggestions that you may consider for your garden. pots or hanging baskets. Thank you , I didn’t realise you could still sow so many flowers in July , I thought after May I’d missed the boat. I shall watch again and write down your suggestions.

Thanks. That's really helpful as I'm quite ignorant and saw the lupins and thought, I don't like them. But looked up delphs and love those.so now I might sow some.

Foxgloves are another one to sow now for flowering next year they give a spectacular display and the bees love them

If I can bear the heat, you’ve inspired me to sow a few seeds today. Catanache returned as a surprise to my garden this year. Guess it self seeded. You won’t be disappointed. The prettiest of petal arrangements.

I’m growing cornflower, cosmos and African daisies together, dahlias, caladium, and sweet pea. I just started them last week and so far everything is sprouting except the African daisies and sweet pea. I’m growing everything in pots but they are outside on my porch. I’m in Pennsylvania in the US

Thank you very much for your comment and I’m really pleased you found my channel and enjoyed the video. The rose is really beautiful and as you point out it is a stunning red colour. The label on the plant just says ‘Red Rose’ but does not appear to indicate any particular variety. I’m away at the moment but I will take a closer look when I get home and see if I can see the actual variety. We’ve had the rose for years and it produces an amazing display every year. Kind regards. Thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated and I hope your arm is recovering and wish you a speedy recovery. The vast majority of flowers in the video are annuals although you can get winter varieties of pansy’s and coleus can be sown all year round although these will need to be sown in pots or containers later in the year so that they can be bought inside during the coldest temperatures. There are other hardy or half hardy flowers that can grow through the winter months ready to flower in spring and I may do another video about this with some suggestions very soon. Kind regards. The slugs ate almost all my plants, which I started in April, and in 1 night they were gone. So, thanks for this video of 'hope' for my garden, and for me. I like your selection, and will try them. (We've got the slug problem under control, for now. According to the experts this year is especially bad for gardens, because they multiplied 10 fold. I'm in Denmark, just wondering if it is the same in the UK.)

I planted lovely dahlias and gladiolus an bloody slugs ate them before they flowered! So I bought wooden boxes an planters . I have 4 lots of hydrangeas but I won’t ground plant them I keep them in large pots x

Hi Gary I love your videos, my night scented stock is still tiny! I potted on from seedlings but not done much since. Some are falling over not sure if it's the wind or slugs. They're in my greenhouse so not too windy but they were near the door, I've moved them further in and a bit of shade. Do you think they will do ok? Thanks Nick 👍

Hi Nick and thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated. Night scented stock are quite small and spindly plants so I think what you are describing is quite normal. Now that the temperatures are reasonable I would think about planting them outside in beds or pots in their final positions. Once they establish they should become more vibrant and slightly larger. @@TheAllotmentGardenandKitchen when I put them in their final position should I put them deep up to the first leaves? They seem leggey to me and the stems are about 1mm thick at the moment and only an inch tall and very delicate! I did a tray of about 60 and about 40 are ok still but they keep dropping. @@nickthegardener.1120 hi Nick. Yes when you transplant them I would plant them up to their first leaves. They are a whispy type of flower so they will continue to grow that way but when transplanted they should bulk out a little. Kind regards. Gary

Thanks for this video. I didn't know that you could still grow flowers in July. Do you have any problems with slugs eating the seedlings? I have lost quite a few plants through slugs. Max is adorable.

Try adding crushed egg shells around the base of your plants. Not only does it add calcium to the soil , but slugs won't like the sharp edges on their soft underside.

Do love flowers and veggies in my garden but just in July this year the horrible heat the world is experiencing…..killed all my plantingbeautes I Amat Southern. Thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated. Very warm temperatures often make it more difficult to grow vegetables and flowers. Do you have any areas of your garden which are in the shade, if not you could create shade with some simple screening, this would help in the really hot temperatures. Also, regular and consistent watering would be needed probably a few times a day in the hottest temperatures. The other alternative, as you gardener pointed out is to wait until the temperature comes down. I do sympathise as here in the UK we are currently experiencing one of the wettest July’s I can remember. Kind regards. Gary

Thank you very much for your comment. Last sowing of Calendula will depend upon where you are located in the world. Here in the UK we can make late sowings in July which will give us some lovely flowers up until late September or early October when we can expect our first frosts. If you live in a warmer climate you may get flowers even later in the year. Kind regards. Gary

Thank you very much for your question. The exchange rate between GB Pounds (and Pence) varies based on the exchange rate however at present 50 UK pence or 0.5 pounds is equivalent to 0.57 USD or just under 60 cents. I hope this answers your question and kind regards. Gary
