Which one is the BETTER hydroponic system? RISE GARDEN or AEROGARDEN FARM

I have had both the two-tier Family @RiseGardens and the AeroGarden Farm Plus for a few years now. Getting one of these at home hydroponic systems is a big deal because let's be honest THEY AREN'T CHEAP! I thought it may be helpful to compare the two of them and high what I like and don't like about both of them. I compared the two systems based on 12 categories and I hope that this will be helpful in helping you decide which system is best for you. I don't declare a "winner" which would be MY recommendation if someone asked, but this is a highly personal decision. What is best for YOU will depend on the space you have, what you want to grow, how much you have to spend and a variety of other factors. I can give you information but ultimately the choice is up to you. #RiseGardens

Best video on the topic I have ever seen. I have 2 of the AeroGarden Harvest and experience a lot of the frustrations you highlighted. I too am an heirloom snob. I do use seeds from Johnny's Selected Seeds in Maine, as well as Bakers Creek. I wish AeroGarden would improve their design and innovation, as they do have excellent customer service. Easy disassembly to clean and sanitize is a huge opportunity for both companies.

@@The_IndoorGardener I have a question which one do you think is best for growing watermelon, avocado, tomatoes, oranges, bell peppers strawberries, lettuce, mint, blueberries, onions, and basil. Can you grow all those together or do I need a separate one I'm new to this and I only planted one time and it didn't go well I was younger and I didn't know plants need sunlight? And do you have to change bulbs or do you just stick it in an outlet

I love your videos! To answer your question about the water meters, the new units don't come with them. Rise mentioned why in a video, summing up that it should be a personal choice mostly because they need to be calibrated and if they break or go off calibration they can mess up your readings. I personally love having a meter but I think they're trying to encourage use of the app. I currently only use a meter and don't rely on the app at all but I do like it for the plant organization visual in the nurseries and garden itself.

I am looking into upgrading into one of these, probably the RISE, and have no experience with them. I have extensive experience with planted aquariums though and based on that will say that the small pumps in the aerogardens are junk and the larger one in the Rise is will likely last much longer. You can also replace it with aquarium or pond pumps for better prefilters, variable speed, overheat and run dry circuit protection, etc. Great comparison, I am glad to have found it. The last category should have been price though. RISE is a good bit more and the monthly plan thing is a little off-putting.

Hi Ashley, The Gardyn is not available to me in Canada so I haven't tried that one. The AeroGarden Farm Plus was my first one mostly because I don't think Rise existed back then and Aerogarden was the most well known at that time (at least to me). I truly believe the Rise Garden gives the best use of space and allows for growing the most food. I don't love the tower style, full disclaimer this is a conceptual dislike as I haven't tried them, due to plants leaning. I just find the Rise with the plant supports or even the Aerogarden Farm with the flat base works best in my opinion. Hope that's helpful. If you do end up going with the Rise, don't forget to use my link to save $50. Let me know what one you end up going with. If you do get the Gardyn, I would love to know what you think after you try it for a bit.

for hydroponics everyone should be using hydroguard. It keeps algea and root root from occuring. As well as keeping resivor slime down to almost nothing. Remember the hotter the resivor the greater the chance of bad things happening. You should install an air stone in the res to keep it aerated as that also helps keep things running smoothly. Hydrofarm makes an ebb and flow sytem called the mega garden and it can really accommodate 6 big plants per unit. Get 2 of them then you are getting serious. All you would need would be an LED grow light which have become much cheaper over the years. You can get one badass system going for under 800bux.

Hey! Thank you so much for your videos, it helps a lot! I'm thinking of buying the Personal Rise Garden, but I want to plant 12 lettuces at the same time. Do you think it is possible? In the website they say that we can buy an upgrade that turns the 8 pods into 12 pods. Do you know how this upgrade works ? Because the design of the Personal side is very different from the others. Is this upgrade goes above the box or on the side? I'm very confused about it. I don't know where the upgrade is to be placed and I don't know if, once installed, It really grows 12 lettuces at the same time.
@The_IndoorGardener
@The_IndoorGardener 2 года назад
Hi Cristiane, My apologies, I missed your comment! The personal Rise Garden is much smaller but anything is possible. personally I don't think I would grow 12 in there at the same time but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it! I would suggest that you would need to be on top of pruning and if I was doing it I would be harvesting the outer leaves of all the lettuces to help reduce crowding. Having a fan would be very beneficial to help with air circulation. If it did start to get out of control you could always (carefully) remove a few of the lettuce and transfer them to either a kratky jar or to soil! So there is nothing to lose!!! The "upgrade" you mention I am assuming is the grow deck. It just fits on top so you would just lift off the one it comes with and put the one with 12 holes on instead. They're super easy to switch out! I really hope that helps!

Since some of these were cherry tomatoes and jalapenos, should I have not used all the holes? And, since it has been a day, do I just leave them alone or can I pull some out now. Will I have ruined the pods if I take a few out today to give the tomatoes and peppers more room?
@The_IndoorGardener

Hi Hilary, If it were me I would pull some out and let them dry completely. If it was just yesterday you should be ok. Worst case the seeds are toast but you can still use the pods again and put new seeds in. But I think you will be ok. Other option is to let them all grow and then move some to soil. More room will be better for the plants in the long run. I’m super jelly you got the XL! For reference I usually only do 2 max on one side if I am doing peppers or tomatoes

Now's a great time to check out semi hydro options. ;) That's what I did because I just wanted to start all the things. Good thing is the grow lights cast enough to the sides that you can totally put your kratky or self-watering pots next to it to reap the benefit. Semi hydro allows you to put your hydroponic nutrients to good use as well. A fellow Cannuck! Hi Elizabeth…honestly it’s been so long. I can’t remember if they had the Canadian site when I ordered. I do have a code that should save you $50 on the family models. But they have the Canadian site now so I would order from there

Have you dealt with Rise Gardens customer service? I have an Aerogarden Farm 24 XL and so far their customer service has been really great. But for Rise Gardens, I’ve heard bad things about their customer service. I really want a Rise Garden, I love their innovation and the app. Have you had issues with their customer service?

Unfortunately, the one level Rise garden is $200 more than the Aerogarden Farm 24Plus. Also, AeroGarden frequently has significant sales.

The Rise Garden is definitely more, plus it's personal preference. We never really got the good AeroGarden deals in Canada. Plus now they don't even ship here anymore :(

Best advice is if youre going to go that big, then dont get either. get a tent and a proper led light. i have 2 AGs and 2 tents, just me.

Just so you know, the reason why there is no mention about ph balancing in the Aerogarden is because their all-in-one plant food also act as a ph buffer so you would usually don't need to worry about it. I've heard that some people that have a Rise Garden are using the Aerogarden plant food with it...

pH is a finicking thing, even with a buffer it is always good to monitor your water pH. It can change quickly and then your plants can become susceptible to pests and diseases. I'll be doing some upcoming videos on pH and testing out how it can change using my AeroGarden Sprouts so it will be interesting to see what happens.

What is real funkcion of pump" in ,for example, "aerogarden"(not "aerog. farm") ?

The pump is there to help circulate the water and nutrients through the system.
