Dear Mr. Beard, Both you and your videos are absolutely awesome! You saved me a service call and most likely a couple of hundred dollars! I appreciate your style and approach to appliance repair. You have a very calm and straight-forward approach that virtually anyone can follow. I have a 12 yo Whirlpool French Door Refrigerator. The freezer was working fine, but the refrigerator compartment was not cooling. I discovered that the air circulation vent in the back of the freezer was icing up. After coming across your videos, I found your instructions for performing a "long" defrost on the freezer. After entering in the codes as you state in your video, the ice on the vents disappeared, and the refrigerator compartment is cooling again! The inside temperature went from 65 down to 40 degrees. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
Wow you are amazing! Using your schematic and video, you made it so easy to manually check these components in question. You sure made me feel awesome in further troubleshooting this problem. The defrost terminator measured 0.1 ohms and the defrost heating element is reading open. No wonder so far that I could not make the defrost to work in the forced mode. Thank you very much!!!!!!
Super helpful video. Thank you for your clear concise narration. The written instructions for programming made it vey easy to follow. I'll be calling tomorrow for parts.
Awesome video !! I didn't have to replace any parts in my fridge, I just unplugged it for 24 hours and cleaned the coils and now working great for a week, but the fridge was in a really hot room So I'm guessing it was just working overtime.
You are a really good technician. I worked as a technician over 20 years ago and your knowledge, skills and ability to explain are exceptional. Thanks.
Mr. Beard, I deeply appreciate your concise and detailed video showing what to look for in components how to repair the non cooling fridge but functional freezer (with some "snow"). Question, prior owner of my fridge had taken the model # and "code" sticker off the inside of fridge (Kenmore fridge). My other fridge (Whirlpool gold french door) looks identical as the Kenmore fridge. Seeing the same mother board works for various fridge models, I'm wondering if I could use the same "code" from my functioning Whirlpool fridge if I choose to replace the mother board? again, both fridges look exactly the same in both interior and exterior with the exception of the bottom vegetable drawer. I thank you in advance for your time and help with this. You have saved me a lot of money in service call. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Sincerely, F
I'm having that problem with the exact same refrigerator, don't think the compressor is running. Put in a new starter relay but no different. Would that be a bad board. I hope you have a way to let me know. I've watched so many videos that got me nowhere. You have the most awesome way and easy to understand. Please help me fix it. I hate to be beat by a machine.
Nice video bud, thank you. I have same exact fridge so this is a huge help for me. It is just not cooling at all no more & it used to cool after I cleaned the dust off coils, but not more. My Defrost Terminator tested at 50.10 Ohms & the heater is testing at 30. Do you do a vid replacing that part, if not any references? Thanks again bud & keep doing what you do.
I just bought a used fridge from someone and it isn't cooling down as much as it should. Temps between fridge and freezer hover between 50 and 60. Obviously, I can't use ice or frost as an indicator that it is a defrost issue. Any ideas??
Never had a chance to work on on of those model fridge yet. Interesting how you do the reset program. Very nice video again. Haven't been on in a long time. But I thank you for the videos and knowledge. Be safe bud.
Thanks again Ray Ray. Took me awhile to understand this one. Seen it many times. One of the best fridges to own. If you find someone getting rid of one scoop it up.
I'm trying to diagnose a whirlpool french door that's having this same issue. Both the defrost terminator (0.5) and defrost heater (28.5) tested ok, but some of the how to pages mention testing the thermistor. Did testing the defrost terminator tell us if the thermistor is functional or should I test that separately? Are there other steps I should take before ordering a new jazz board?
great vid!!! My fridge was a warm today and freezer very cold. I can see coils are frosty. I put it into L defrost mode. Do I shut the doors after i put it into defrost? How long should it take to defrost?
Do you have a video where you’ve solved the same issue on a JennAir French Door? Thinking I’ve got a jazz board problem. Can’t find the location of the board to begin testing. Thanks, your videos are very informative.
So, exact same problem as yours. So, tested the heating element: 30 point something ohms. Defrost terminator measures 1.6 to 1.7 ohms...is that ok? It could be the multimeter setting as mine only goes as low as 200 ohms so that might actually be .016-.017? I'm inclined to think it is the jazz board, but I had one other question: you said it is not the defrost timer; did you test it or how do you know? I did a forced defrost and that did work if that sheds any light. Great video, btw! I appreciate any insight you might have that could help me with mine. Again, thanks!
I would start with the Defrost terminator first. You want it to be less than one ohm for sure. That can cut power to the element making it not heat as well and turn off the defrost cycle prematurely. I would start with that and get the jazz board afterwards if it continues to have problems.
Glad to be of service. I will say we can't know everything. By looking at the schematic though I bet he could figure it out though. I am sure he knows a ton of good stuff I do not know as well.
fellas dont forget to clean under it on the front side round oval slots found more lint and kitty hair and more than a dryer could produce lolz,, made my freezer make ice much faster now, but mine is still freezing up, fan not blowing up into the fridge part, where the heater is is a ball of ice about size of a baseball
I have a similar refrigerator and situation I thought I was to replace the Jazz board. I tested the defrost terminator (brown and orange) in a completely defrosted state and go a reading of 56 ohms and tested the defrost heater and got 27.5 ohms. So I’m not changing the board only the defrost terminator does that sound right?
Awesome video helped me find out it maybe my board, was wondering if there’s a difference between board numbers 12784414 and 12784415? Was going to get a board from Amazon but my board (12784414) isn’t listed, thanks for your help!!!
I followed everything you said and before I buy the jazz board, I just want to confirm that a bad board will restrict power yo the fan. I've taken everything apart and I did have a nice ice ball in the top left of the freezer. While I was I there I noticed the fan is not getting 120v. Will replacing the jazz board fix that?
The fan may not get power unless the door switch is closed. Make sure it’s not that simple first. I find that the ice build up in the top left where the intake is, is caused by an air leak. Look at the gaskets and see if you can find where it is not sealing around the door properly. This videos shows an issue with the defrost. If the whole evaporator is not ice up than your defrost system is working. You probably have an air leak.
Hi. Your video very helpful. Thanks. I need help my refrigerator is exactly the same as you show. I checked everything like you and it show good. But it ice up and will not defrosting. I have to manual force it defrosting and it will defrosting. I thinks my timer is not working. I replaced both boards but still do the same. Where is the timer defrosting board at ? Thanks for doing good educational.
The timer is in that board you replaced. double check they defrost thermostat. It might close at iced over situations but not in a normal working situation. the evaporator can get to negative number of degrees with all that ice build up. If I was a betting man I would think that is it.
@@BeardedApplianceRepair Thanks for the advice, I did replaced the defrost thermostat, because that the only device that I haven't changed. It worked like the champ. Thanks again you are the Pro. Have a great successful and happiness in life.
That's what I'm working with. I've figured out that the fan isn't coming on. After testing it with the meter I found it's not getting 120v. I'm waiting a response to my question. Will replacing the jazz board fix the power to the fan
Thanks for responding so quickly. Ive already changed the jazz board, start device and run capacitor and defrost thermostat. Freezer is still not defrosting. In the video you did state that it could be the defrost timer. Oh and forced defrost doesn't work. Now..after I changed the other parts the refrigerator was cooling as it should but freezer i noticed thru the vent was getting frosty.
