Thank you so much for this outstanding video, Steve! We paid $95 for the diagnosis that we needed to spend another $275 to get the door latch replaced. Thanks to your video, we were able to do it ourselves using a $25 used part off of EBAY. Excellent, clear instructions and great presentation!

After another annoying "stall" in the middle of a load, I decided TODAY was the day. This is a pretty easy repair and the guidance is good. I looked at another similar video and would share my experiences. First, you just need to back off enough of the bellows to get your hand in, about 8" of it, not all of it. The spring ring may be a little hard to start removing if it's been in place for 10 years, like mine, but it does come off...clean it off if it's gross/gritty. The switch removed easily and the clips holding the plugs in were reasonably easy to remove although the top one has a double-lock thing so you may need two fingers. Now the trick...getting the switch back into the bracket. While other videos say you can do this without removing the top....I'm sure you can if you do this a billion times, but after 10 attempts, I decided to remove the top. This made it much easier. One try, and removing the top is pretty easy. Getting the bellows back takes care so that it stretches over the lip. The spring also needs to be coaxed along but once it's over it nestles right into where it belongs. All in all, a pretty simple repair. Thanks for the video!!

Very helpful, but, having just tried this, I can tell you that the process of hooking to the mounting tabs (~4:42 point in the video) is extremely difficult -> impossible if you aren't able to take the top off the machine as was done in this video. Many of us have washing machines that are the bottom unit of a stacked system (dryer on top). Short of moving the dryer (not always practical), and then pulling the washer away from the wall (again, not always practical), you're stuck pulling the boot away, and trying your best to get things attached to the tabs, by feel as much as anything else. I'm not 100% sure its a big deal, since the latch is screwed into place in the end with two screws, but, for anal people like me, it was worth pursuing. Whole job was maybe 30 minutes - 20 of which was spent on this one step. If you are able to remove the top, the whole job would be quite straightforward.

You dont have to take off the door boot. I spent more time trying to get that back on than actually replacing the part.

Even though I've replaced the very part seen on the video, the latch still will not engage. It tries to, you can hear it trying, but nope, F2 E5 blink blink blink 12 years, maybe it's been a good run? lol

Yep, same here. Brand new OEM part replaced, same error code. now what? Nobody seems to know the cause or how to fix, other than buy a new washer. BS.

Why take the top off of you accessed the lock through the door ?
@petevanopens584
@petevanopens584 4 года назад
@@dorothyhalloran8532 The trick is that you need to see that the switch is engaged with the clips. Of course, this is this week's project so if I learn more, I'll let you know.
@petevanopens584

I've had that problem. Usually it relents after you unplug it for a minute, plug it in, try to start a cycle and let it figure itself out. However, there is an emergency release. Using a Torx screwdriver, remove the bottom panel. and pull it away from the washer. Reach through the open panel and up to the door lock. Find the release ring below the locking mechanism. Pull down on the ring to unlock the door.

@@petevanopens584my issue was the door saying open when it wasn't and I would have to give it a good slam to engage. . i done every thing you said and it worked. But 2 days later it wouldn't start so I doubled checked the switch was in place and I had no luck this time.. do you recommend a door switch replacement or new machine?
@petevanopens584
@petevanopens584 4 года назад
@@dorothyhalloran8532 I've got the same problem. I've got the switch and plan to install it this week. At one point much earlier the latch (the thing on the door that goes into the switch was loose and causing the same symptoms (foolishly, I replace the main board to learn it was all in the switch) and aligning and tightening that worked for a year, but now I'm dealing with cycle stalling nearly every load.

I didn’t remove the top. Did I do something wrong?
@FixDotCom
@FixDotCom Год назад
You did not do anything wrong. Removing the top allows you to see better where that door latch mechanism and wiring harness goes and lets a bit more light in to see better. The repair can definitely be done with out removing the top.
