I love the Greg bear novels. Cryptum, Primordium and Silentium. I have a very vivid imagination and dreams. After reading those and playing halo and "countless games" like jak an daxter. It was easy to see a connection between the stories we share. Finding out the main book character Chakas is basically the guy that said "screw this im doing my own thing" and became 343 Guilty sparks because the didact. Saw him as a friend. Its a great trilogy.
This version of an eldritch race without them being too overbloated in scale though big but still can be comprehended and though very powerful but still grounded with relative interdimensional limits. They maybe no Downstreamers, Xeelee, or Faction Paradox tier advanced power but you don't need a continuous multiversal potency and capacity in such multitudes to be a interesting cosmic powerhouse still. One faction I think would be most comparable to them against would be the Transcendence humans from Xeelee Sequence. They are a group of humans decendents of the Interim Coalition of Governance. They are extremely xenophobic and work tirelessly to prevent human suffering and undo all strife forever more even if the consequences were to destroy the universe. They are kind of like a infant baby version of the Downstreamers reeking havoc against xenos across millions of galaxies where ever they found them. Though they got punished by the Xeelee when they went too far.
I think they would fuse together, like with the hollows from bleach, once one consumes the other the consumed one remains within them indefinitely and could at least in theory gain control permanently
Great video! While it is nice to have lore on the Precursors at the end of the day I am contempt with not understanding them. After all they are written to be eldritch beings beyond our comprehension and they hit that note pretty well. Also I forgot that about the cursed Gravemind audio lmao
I forgot about the cursed gravemind aswell until I found the icon on my desktop. I think the beauty in the precursors is that they’re so advanced that even with modern physics their “inner operations” or like how they function is still so insane. I hope it stays unknown until the very last hook
@@MacroLore I know I don't speak on every video, but it's a guarantee I've enjoyed every one of them. You're fair and will dig pretty heavily into obscure lore. That's rare. Hence, since seeing you on Sandmans' livestream, I've made sure to give them all a watch and like. (Gotta support the good Creators! And you're definitely one of them!) Anyhow, have a good one and keep the videos rolling in!
I thought the precursors morality was that all existance both positive and negative was valuable and important in the universe. Its less not having morality and more valuing both equally. Though now that we know they had sects that is up in the air much more. This could have changed but old lore basically suggested that the universe of halo exists within a sort of universal mind, that the reason the precirsors could perform neural physics and create things which couldnt exist under the normal universes conditions was because they had learnt to tap into the underlying universal conciousness and locally rewrite physics. I also always liked the idea of the precursors being a collective conciousness but with just obscene scope given their perspective of dimensions and time being much greater. If you think about the precursors as elements of a single brain, a single mind it actually makes sense for them to have unique traits still, after all the different parts of a human mind have different capabilities and altering one changes the whole or as in the case of lobotomy seperates the two independently. You mention the other dimensions of slipspace and the forerunners ability to access them, imo this and the fact the forerunners believe themselves to have killed literal undying shapeshifting timeless eldritch gods that we only see a fraction of the forerunners power when they were a young race. A personal headcanon of mine is that the precursors werent actually alone in whatever origin they had, since there seem to be locations even in the modern milky way with spacial anomalies known to the the forerunners as 'prisons'
The thing about the precursors and their relationship to the flood that people misunderstand is that Due to the hastey addition of lore to answer QnA's people think the Flood = Precursors by being a product of them. The misunderstanding is that the Precursors =\= the Flood because the flood is a biproduct of them when they became currupted in transition. Its not a direct 1-1 shift and the flood are similair IN SPITE OF not BECAUSE THEY CAME FROM the precursors. The thing that people dont seem to realize is thag rhe precursors, if they are as smart and as transcendent as they are written to be, would know this was going to happen. Like a test. Not for any one species, but for the universe. I never bought the idea the precursors lost a war to the Forerunners, unless it was designed to be a red herring for a more important test not of stregth or will, but understanding of the greater machinations of said universe. My headcanon is that humanity figured this out around the time they were devolved by the didact.
2:23 it should be noted that in physics, a "dimensions" is just a fundamental measurable property. so Space (x3), Time, Mass, Electric Charge, and Energy. if you are speaking on the universes topology, just about every model (except string theory) uses a 4D model of the universes topology, 3 spatial, and 1 temporal. string theory however postulates that there is more than these 4, the most successful theory thus far is the M Theory, which has 1 temporal, 9 spatial (6 of which are considered sub-spatial, meaning they are only accessible by particles), and a "M" dimension (hence the name), the M dimension is a mathematical construct and isn't actually real. string theory in the Halo universe is presumably more advanced as they have demonstrated the ability to access sub-spatial dimensions like the domain, glow, and slipspace.
Way way back in the day it was hinted at that the Halo Universe was looked at as if it were a brain. Thus why neural physics is a thing and the precursors having the vibe of "you are the universe experiencing itself" atleast at that times lore.
While they are powerful there entirely ideology has them wanted to experience the benefits and suffering of life. Some precursors also sometimes purposely devolved themselves to briefly experience mortality
Hm, may I ask can these dimensions be multiple series of parallel dimensions within the Halo Universe itself instead of being infinite transcendent dimensions? I learned this from Atari_hmb. Sometimes dimensionality within a verse's cosmology may scale differently from other verses dimensionality. Some are interdimensional, some are parallel ones, some dimensions may be scaled much greater or powerful then others but not in a transcendent or transfinite kind of way, and then there are those that are infinite transcendentally greater then the last. Kind of like this example. Three Body Problem's dimensionality is not like Marvel's dimensionality. The dimensions maybe exponentially greater until it hits 10th dimensional but it isn't nessesarily like infinite transcendent one like Marvel or SCP is like. Some dimensions can be described as separate universes too depending on the context.
Yea a lot of the different dimensions can be explained by causality. But we also aren’t 100% of the higher dimensions. We know they exist and we interact with them, but to perceive it is another story. Halo doesn’t necessarily follow our dimensionality so a lot of it is up for interpretation
@@MacroLore Excuse me you lost me there. What are you talking about specifically? I was talking about more along the lines of different types of dimensions from fictional verses cosmologies and powerscaling context. Not theories of higher dimensions made by those in the modern science community.
@@thorshammer7883 ahh I understand. I got lost in the sauce once I saw the three body problem I went into their explanation of dimensions of a proton. That’s a really good thought experiment, I’ll check that video out
@@MacroLore From what I understand with the framework I operate from with what I learned from Atari_hmb's youtube livestreams of how to discern what dimensionality is like only the 10th dimension in Three Body Problem has the criteria to be a infinite transcendent 4th dimension. Where light speed was able to travel at infinity and the way time flowed instantly was described in universe. Though some may argue it's infinite 3D instead. So making the Three Body Problem's dimensionality though unique however in a powerscale sense pretty restrained out there when compared to other verses like Manifold where the Downstreamers turn a entire finite multiverse into a large infinite multiverse and custom build sub universes when they see fit. I had to edit my top comment as I made a mistake by typing "Three body problem's dimensionality is like Marvel's" when I meant to type "is not like Marvel's".
I miss back when I cared about Halo lore. I was so into it, loved reading the books and all but 343 and everyone else involved with Halo for the pas 12 years have managed to entirely kill off my interest in the franchise and universe. Makes me sad.
