------
"She's Gone" is a song written and originally performed by the American duo Daryl Hall and John Oates. The soul ballad is included on their 1973 album, Abandoned Luncheonette.
The song was released as a single in 1973. It was a major hit in Hall & Oates' home market of Philadelphia[citation needed] and peaked nationally at No. 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Nearly three years later in 1976, after Hall & Oates had moved to RCA Records and had scored the hit "Sara Smile", Atlantic Records re-released the original single under a different number (Atlantic 3332). This time, "She's Gone" was a hit, peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the R&B chart, the song peaked at No. 93.[4] On the Radio & Records airplay chart, the song debuted at No. 37 on the August 13, 1976 issue; after six weeks it reached a peak of No. 8, staying there for three weeks, with four weeks in the top 10 of the chart and thirteen weeks on the chart in total.
Following a recommendation from their co-producer, Dennis Lambert, who heard the Hall & Oates version from the Abandoned Luncheonette album, the American R&B vocal group Tavares covered the song for their album, Hard Core Poetry in 1974.[25] The brothers' version of the song became a hit, topping the U.S. R&B chart and peaking at No. 50 on the Hot 100. - Wikipedia

Hall and Oates for me, though maybe it's because the first version you hear always seems to have a special place in your heart. It is a great soul record and the Tavares version is fine. Daryl's House is a great program that you can see on youtube, his sessions with Smokey, O'jays and Celo Green are really very good. Love the session too with Todd Rundgren. Thanks for posting...those memories keep flooding back...

As I listen to both versions. I do love Tavares they have other songs (More than a Woman, It Only take a Minute and Heaven Must be Missing an Angel) just to name a few, much better songs that goes on the personal playlist on my phone but Hall and Oats and other Jazz versions of 'She's Gone' beat out this version sung by the Tavares. Hall and Oats are timeless.

I love when John Oates sings. He has a good voice too. Love the blue eyed soul. He should have lead more of their songs. Obviously, the Hall and Oates version is more pop catchy in tune. I’ve never heard the Tavaras version before. Its rock guitar is cool in the beginning. But I love the Hall and Oates version better. No comparison.

I like both - depends on the mood. If I HAD to choose, I'd pick Hall & Oats, simply because I heard and loved it first. H&O just wrote a fantastic song, and unless you change it a lot (or can't sing), it's hard to mess it up.

Hall and Oates version feels like you lost your first love and you'll do anything to dull the pain. Tavares feels like you lost your soul mate... painful but then again you know there can be another depending on where you are in life. BUT you never can have another first love. Hall and Oates wins this one easily!!

before i give my opinion let me just say, RnB/soul is a very difficult genre to master, and that is true even when you got it. that being said, i have some music education behind me from grade school into my years at college, so even though i am black let me say i really doubt that "in group" preference is playing any role here. i just believe, as objectively as possible, that tavares did it better because their rendition represents the genre better. that being said, the H&O version is quite good and very nice to listen to as well.

Hall and Oates WINS THIS "HANDS DOWN !" The duo "SINGS" this song the way it is meant to be sung - with strength, vigor ,and as a lively response to bewildering regret and a rising resolution to deal with the absence of a "LOVE" THAT HAS BEEN LOST.

ok let me set the record straight. first of all nobody is better and im one of the tavares sons and im still saying nobody is better. im a musical artist and obviously i grew up around it so everybody has to respect both versions from that standpoint. hall and oates definitely wrote a masterpiece but it flopped when they first released it then when my dad and uncles recorded it they gave capitol records their first number one hit from a black r and b group then hall and oates re released it and thats when they got their recognition so tavares has to thank hall and oates for writing it but hall and oates also has to thank tavares for making it a hit first. both groups touched alot of peoples lives in all of their music and that's what it's all about. god bless everbody. thank you dad and hall and oates.
