Funimation original is best. The manga can never hold up to actual animation with real performances, and the Japanese just doesn't work because Goku sounds like an old grandma with a high pitched voice. It sounds like English Fortuneteller Baba delivering a baby whenever the Japanese Goku yells. The definitive, unquestionable order is DBZ English > English Kai > Manga > Old Grandma Goku Japanese Version.
I personally love the 3 minute transformation, showing the world affected by his mass of power, and the weird baby and monkey scene, and the dub of "And this is to go even further beyond!" I love and can recite his whole monologue.
Nothing, absolutely nothing beats the 2002 version. The score and dubbing was flawless. It's literally a scene that has inspired people to go even further beyond in their own lives!
The ssj3 transformation is one of the few times that the 1st Funi dub actually felt like it lent more emotion and gravitas to the anime than anything the original japanese or subsequent dubs did - the "and this is to go even further beyond!" line, the labored and painful scream, the music. I know there are a lot of purists out there, but it's important to recognize when localization gets it right, and 1st-round Funi absolutely blew it out of the water for this scene.
Honestly, ssj3 is probably the single handedly only anime moment I can think of that actually justifies how "unnecessarily " long it is. That form deserves every second of secondary characters reactions, screaming, world reaction and tension scene. Best transformation in any anime ever. Prove me wrong.
Tenchi Masaki turning into Kami Tenchi from Tenchi Muyo is easily much more anticipated and long time coming and on a far, far larger scale than the SSJ3 transformation but it's arguably less impactful, but it's probably the only other scene that I can even compare it to.
The only other one I would say is The Final Flash, it’s like seven minutes of just screaming but when he finally fires the beam it’s more than justified.
SSJ1 was better, a unreachable legend we all thought was no more then mad ramblings from Vegeta, then Frieza kills Krillin pushing Goku over the edge and it happened, the legend was actually real. And SSJ2 worked really good as the culmination of all of Gohan's hidden rage. We see Gohan's hidden strength all though Z, then a glimpse of SSJ2 while Gohan and Goku was training, it was built up perfectly and when Gohan got backed into a corner he couldn't escape from, he finally snapped and it was glorious. You can't beat build up and anticipation, something SSJ3 doesn't have. What is SSJ3? How did Goku get SSJ3? Where did SSJ3 come from? Does SSJ3 matter in the story at all? Answers. Don't know, don't know, don't know and no. We're into Dragonball Super now and we still don't know jack shit all about SSJ3, it's just a form only Goku has because... reasons. That he obtained while dead... in some way. There is no backstory to it, no build to it, it's been utterly useless in all the main series, and GT was quick to replace it with SSJ4 while Super was quick to replace it with SSJ God. I see no reason to care about a form we know next to nothing about, and is just there for the sake of being there and nothing else.
@@justinlynch3 wow, this comment was far larger than it had the right to be . You really could've done it a lot better. Not even that good of an argument, damn.
Is one thing to dub a show to allow people from other countries to understand it, but changing its original dialogue and score is plain disgusting and it actually should be illegal if you think about it. Imagine doing that with an american show in another country.
@@kyros2714 of course, once it's done you can like whatever version you prefer. I'm just saying it shouldn't be done in the first place, and we souldn't encourage it.
Funimation, hands down. "And this is to go further and beyond!" Line is just so impactful. In kai, he just says, "this goes way beyond super saiyan 2." It's pretty lame in comparison to funimation dub.
Eh, visually and pace wise I think Kai is superior but I think I prefer the dialog from the original Z Dub. They changed some of my favorite lines (examples being SSJ3, Vegeta’s saiyan pride and speeches, and Gohans “I WONT WATCH THIS ANY MOOOOOOOOREEEE”
They said that they have a schedule now,and that it won't be taking long hiatuses anymore,so we should be expecting part of Season 4 of dbza and the Bojack movie soon. Just checked. They're releasing on a weekly basis in the Fall.
Small nitpick: the Funimation SSJ3 theme was done by Julius Dobos of Faulconer Productions - not Bruce Faulconer himself. Bruce gets a LOT of credit which IMO, should go to the whole Faulconer Productions team.
I don't really think there is a question here. The FUNimation version of this scene is totally iconic and the line "And this is to go...Even further beyond!!!" Is just more impactful than the Kai's version of the script.
I typically love Kai more, but the original 2002 dub really is something else. Just the line "And this is to go even further beyond" makes that scene so cool.
Original Funimation 2002 was so fucking good, and it’s the only thing in the Dub I enjoy more than the JP. The Bruce Falconer song for the scene is just so much better.
@@leo-sj6un an opinion cannot be wrong.... But why I say it is simply because the music fits FAAARRR better with the english voices. Just the japanese soundtracks don't work well with English voices.
Hey here's DBZ Kai with the Faulconer score carefully edited in! It's awesome, check it out! thepiratebay.org/torrent/22649812/Dragon_Ball_Z__Kai_with_Faulconer_OST_(1080p)
I think most agree that Funimation's dub wins this one. They usually excelled at the transformations and really emotional stuff. As a matter of fact, I'd hold Funi's original dub of the Buu saga against any other version. They had their stuff together by then.
"Still my favorite Transformation in dragonball to this day, i just love the entire design of super sayian 3 it really feels diffrent to any other form, also it would be really cool if they could like bring back the super sayian 3 hair and face but in like another form someday as like a throwback to super sayian 3, that would of been so cool!!!"
nah for the series at least, its overrated and blinded by nostalga for most. I saw the origanal and kai later and well. Kai is just better quality animation and has no filler.
did you forget that some of the audience comes from other countries and has seen it in an entirely different language not covered here, thus never having heard of the funimation version?
Absolutely no way anything beats the Funimation dub. The score paired with Sean’s brilliant emotional screaming make it one of the greatest scenes in all of DBZ
The one thing I liked about Kai is that instead of Goku continuously screaming, he sounds like he’s legit pushing every fiber of his being to transform
Me eventually showing my Children this scene of Goku going Super Saiyan 3 as they watch all of Dragon Ball for the first time: "You're going to love this. Trust me."
Since I grew up with the Latin Spanish version of the dub, and having seen all the versions after, I believe I can actually throw my two cents here without any real nostalgia bias. I truly believe that the Funimation dub is the best one. Sean's performance and the score just fit in so well, I constantly use this scene to show my friends that the English dub is superior, since in Spanish, the screams usually sound more like Opera singing, haha. Plus, as a musician and audio engineer, I can really appreciate the song. Its use of very varied elements and just an exquisite mix, for the time, is something to really talk about. I believe it amps up the moment even more than the original Kikuchi piece. Big hug, Mark :)
I also grew with the Latin Spanish version but I'm gonna admit that Sean Schemmel's performance in this scene is just great, of course I'm referring to the Funimation dub
Jiren Joestar was it written in and physically spoken by goku that he was doing it to show off? Because if you don’t have actual proof of him being able to easily transform at the first time and couple of times of it happening, then what you’re doing is head cannon. Using your own thoughts and true interpretation of the story despite being wrong.
Prior to him transforming he then talks to Buu and babadi and goes through all of his forms, he is BUYING TIME. he states he could've obliterated Buu had he gone all out too.
"And this is to go even further beyond" just hits different its the kind of shit you'd say when trying to get a new max at the gym or finally take down that boss in a game you've been struggling with the funimation dub will always be my fave
I preffer the original japanese dub and music in every Dragon Ball series/film but the original funimation dub for this one is just the best, it gets you so pumped up!
My favorite is the one of the ones you didn’t include: Original Funi dub w/ Kukuchi score. The blu ray version is the one I watched first. Although, I’ll admit that this is the peak of the Faulconer score and one of the few times I like it.
Fun fact: in Brazil the transformation of the 3 sayan (where tremors occur and some buildings are shaken) was interrupted by the duty informing about the fall of the twin towers.
KrrishMehta /The Blazing Fire!!! In DBS they don’t really do anything, so maybe that’s why people like Roshi and Krillin are catching up. I’d say it’s a worth a try though lol. Saiyans have some pipes on them.
I always felt like the super saiyan transformation was merely the progression of the saiyan toward drawing their oozaru form outward, but while still retaining their human form. Kind of like they were embracing their "Inner beast" and tapping into it. This is also why in DBGT the SSJ4 form had fur and a tail. It was them having fully tapped into the beastial aspect and fully utilizing it, without being stuck as an animal.
@EMANUELsonic I'll give you an argument. The Funi dub knocked the SSJ3 transformation out of the park. The Funi dub had it's issues, but when it came to transformations, they usually did them better than the rest.
I constantly play ssj3 theme during my weight lifting. And I actually break my limits by doing just a few more reps. Normally I would stop, but I pushed myself just a little more and getting more gains. I'm grateful for ssj3. Which is why it's super underrated in my opinion.
@@nappy9987 Not mad. Just kinda tired of people treating it like it's this ultimate version of Dragon Ball that renders all official material obsolete. I don't hate DBZ Abridged at all I quite enjoy it. But it has always been and will (probably) always be: a parody and in MY OPINION a parody can't ever replace the original.
I LOVE The Bruce falconer Ssj 3 theme. Gives me goosebumps every single time. My fav has to be the original Funimation Dub with the falconer score. Just pure awesomeness.
I love both Kai and Z’s version. I love Kai due to the fact that I think Sean’s yelling sounded more extreme & intense compared to Z. With the soundtrack also being very fitting. Sean did amazing w Z imo but not as good as he did with the Kai version. But I love Bruce’s Super Saiyan 3 ost. It adds a feel that the other versions don’t.
