Who Did It Better - Tom Jones vs Status Quo - Something 'Bout You Baby I Like Comparison 

I’m Welsh so I love Tom, but I also grew up listening to Quo, so a difficult choice. Gotta go with the Quo. Best live band in the world from 1970-1977.

I grew up in England, and "The Quo" were my favourite band. When I went to live in Canada in the mid '80s, I only met one person who'd heard of Status Quo. I now live in Wales, where Tom Jones is a hero. Love both versions, but it has to be Quo for me!

I could take or leave Tom Jones but Status Quo wins this, in my view, by quite a margin.

Some of the best gigs I’ve been to over the years have been Quo gigs. One of the best live bands ever.

I had no idea it was a cover. I always thought it was a Quo original. I like Tom Jones but Quo were far better. Quo are a British institution and even though they started in the late sixties, the seventies and early eighties were when Quo were mega successful in the UK. I recommend Whatever you want or Down Down for Status Quo.

Saw Status Quo in Glasgow as support for the headliners Lynyrd Skynyrd. Both superb, but to my mind, Status Quo stole it. Best show ever.

Status Quo are a bunch of English guys. They opened Live Aid with Rocking all over the world. If you want to hear more, try Down Down. They are one of the UKs most successful bands, and although most of the band is dead now, Francis Rossi, the lead singer, is still touring . Did you know that Sir Thomas Wedgewood Jones did a cover of Prince's Kiss?

Tom Jones is a legend, and his version is pretty cabaret funky, whereas Quo's version is more boogie rock. It's a great song, but I'll go with Status Quo's version in the aesthetic stakes.

Brilliant song; two great versions. Being a fan of both with SQ as my house gods of rock music I must say I prefer the heavy slow rock version of Status Quo. Few bands have a repertoire as great as they do, still, the covers they occasionaly played in the seventies and eighties are often one level better than the originals. Compare "Bye bye Johnny", "Rockin' all over the world" and "Carol" after this one. With lots of respect to Chuck Berry and John Fogerty.

Scorpions are a german band and Status Quo are british no doubt! On the notion of music videos. You're right about that. But that was the whole reason for music videos in the first place; to showcase the band/artist so that the viewer could get an inkling of an idea about how they were on stage. Hopefully generating enough interest to go and see them live next time they were around :)

Hard to compare as well as instrumentation was from two very different period. But Tom Jones vocals better

Status Quo. Nice powerful version! Tom Jones for me personally is always a bit of a B version of Elvis in the seventees. SQ was not very popular in the US but massive in Europe period 1972-1984

If you want to do a banging status quo tune then do down down, as for tom jones his duet with the stereophonics doing mama told me not to come is a great tune, as for who did it better, i cant pick to be honest, i don't particularly like the song but maybe status quo takes it just for how they took the song on!

Status Quo put thier on stamp on this track but Quo are the ones for me, QUO all the way.

If you have ever been or are going to a Quo show, you will know that you're in for a fantastic evening but remember to take a spare T-shirt with you because the one that you're wearing will be wringing wet by the end of the gig and you will be totally knackered!

Status Quo for me, like Tom though

I was expecting to hate them both just because it's a song I don't like very much. Tom Jones won me over with his performance when I closed my eyes. The cheesiness of the video was excruciating. If someone thought this was a good introduction to the music of Status Quo, they were doing the band a horrible disservice. In the 1970's, and particularly earlier in the decade, the band was much edgier, and even slightly revolutionary in its own way. Still. I go with the Quo on this one simply because it is closer to my musical ball park.

Toms version is very 60's because of the time it was gone, Quos version is a lot better and live it's even better

I have a new suggestion. Many people know Fleetwood Mac, but do they know the early music? My suggestion is Fleetwood Mac , Oh Well. This features Peter Green on guitar and vocals.

You can not compare this, the music you like and listen is a lifestyle thing.

Tom Jones is a guid Welsh lad wi a fantastic voice. I'm a big fan of Quo's early stuff up to the late 70s. In the same way ZZ Top started churning them oot after Eliminator, Quo did the same after Just Supposin', which wasn't their best LP to start with. Status Quo ran fi '68 well into the 2000's and they lived up to their name "Three Chord Wonders" as most, if not aw their songs had aboot 3 Chords. If you fancy a listen to some better Quo, try maybe "Paper Plane", "Don't Waste My Time", or anything from their Live 77 set. Don't do the later Live versions as they didn't have the same punch.

Band are pronounced Stay tus Quo. Quos version reached higher in the UK charts. Crap video but much better version.
