Hey man just starting up a warhammer channel myself, love all the 8th stuff you have been covering+fantasy. Keep up the great work! Planning on making some top units in warhammer vids myself soon and will weigh in some of your opinions for sure!
Please do this for more categories like best infantry, monsters, archery, gunpowder etc. Would be really interesting to see the top units of each subject. Most people base their opinions based on lore instead of actual tabletop stats which is honestly kinda dumb as every unit will always sound like the most epic thing in the setting in order to sell the model.
The lore is, in a lot of ways, completely detached from the reality of play. Super elite, centuries old elven warriors, last about 2 seconds. I appreciate the compliment on the video. It's one that I really enjoyed making as it allowed me to flex some of my other skills.
@hardlyheroic114 More videos like this that analyze units from different armies. I can't imagine how much work it is. Maybe as the hype picks up and Old World comes out, you can create content for Old World? I think these two Cavalry videos you have made are amazing!
@@alainmorales9277 Thanks so much. It is a lot of work to make these. Especially since there's so much to 8th edition. I would love it if more people could see this, but I do understand that warhammer fantasy is a dead game. You're right though that when old world comes out I might be able to do something like this for that.
the dragon princes seem oddly weak considering they get 5 additional supporting attacks and have Re-rolls to hit against pretty much everything that isn't Blood Dragons or Dark Elves. Did you factor in their bonuses against dark elves? Valor of Ages and martial prowess are super important. At 15 strong, Dragon Princes should be tearing apart every other cavalry on the charge as they score way more hits on average before you factor in the horses. even without command, they have 20 attacks with rerolls and then 5 follow up horse attacks. Against Dark Elf Cold ones, they get re-rolls against fear, and outclass them in attacks.
Dragon Princes are quite elite cavalry and based on the results, they tend to do quite well against most of the enemy units that aren't grail knights or blood knights. However, this is highly contextual. On the charge, the dragon princes even beat the cold one knights in the majority of cases. But when we look at the defense outcomes, the dragon princes tend to get destroyed. Their ranking is based on multiple angles. On the charge, they're great, but a lot of other cavalry is as well. The main reason is probably because they're only S3 and T3. When they get to charge, they're S5 and that means the dragon princes have a tendency to either break the enemy on the charge or they don't. If they don't manage to do that, they're only S3 which is terrible against most of the other cavalry, and abysmal against anything powerful like a blood knight. Furthermore, it also means that when they're defending, they can barely scratch the enemy or their armour. It's a shame really since their elven counterparts are all S4
@@hardlyheroic114 to that I reply with Banner of the World Dragon and maybe a sword of might. The High Elf elites have large magic banner points amounts and the champions have magic item points for a reason. Their supposed to be overloaded on magic gear. With BotWD grail knights can't touch dragon prince in any respect. Same with chaos knights if they chose ensorcelled weapons. That's the part you're missing. In order to allow you choice and customization they build units weaker to compensate. The boar boys have the Bigguns or savage orc paths, empire cavalry have different weapon loadouts and inner circle knights, dragon princes have a 50pts magic banner allotment and magic weapons+armor for the champion. The tomb kings skeleton cav is Fast cav, not heavy like everyone else. Chaos knights change quite a bit based on which mark they have. But oh well.
@@skeith1543 Yeah I know there's a lot that could be added. It would expand the scope of the video by a lot I think and I didn't want to go down an infinite rabbit hole. There's always more complexity to warhammer that could be factored in but I haven't really seen a broad overview which is why I made one.
I was really interested to see how well the Grail knights did given that the army book didnt get updated in 7th or 8th. I wonder how well Knights of the Realm do, as that is more indicative of the performance of the faction as a whole, they are mandatory after all.
I think the grail knights are essentially the peak of the army with their ward save. The knights of the realm would probably struggle a bit more as they're without the save. But they are cheaper by quite a bit. Maybe I should do a video talking about just the bretonnian knights?
@@hardlyheroic114 It's not a bad idea since Bretonnia is meant to be the premier cavalry faction. I don't play them that way as my brain is addled with peasant spamming, but I think it would be interesting to directly compare Knights of the Realm, Questing Knights, Pegasus Knights and Grail Knights. Knights Errant are just budget Knights of the Realm, their stats are incredibly similiar, and without being mandatory there are fewer reasons to consider bringing any, and Mounter Yeomen are just garbage. It probably worth testing them both out none the less just to cover the bases, but I don't think Yeomen are ever cost effective unless fighting artillery crews.
