@@skepticpunk_goes hand in hand with great system mechanics. Everey character can have a response to everything, it all comes down to how you respond to those options
I clawed my way into Platinum with Manon. She's really good right now but everyone plays her just a tad differently which is so cool to me. I never know if someone is immediately gonna grab me, or if they're focused on doing pokes into wall pressure. She's so flexible and she can change her approach VERY quickly because of her special moves.
The development that Lady Chun Li has had over the years is impressive. Instead of finding new moves, she chose to master or sharpen the moves shes had maybe since SF Alpha 2. Also, love her char select pose. Big thanks to the devs.
A part of me wishes the legs of Street Fighter (Chun Li, Cammy and Juri) could dish out on last new finisher. To show how far and powerful our fighters have grown over the year’s.
@@flameroad123 you misunderstand. I'm well aware of what it means colloquially but your usage is what confused me. You said "I wish the legs could dish out on last new finisher"..... What does that mean?
It’s always interesting to see MAX POV of things like this. He understands that it’s more on how the player uses the character, rather than how META breaking the character is. Yes, there are very good ones, but ALL have the potential to be GOOD, on the hands of the right player.
As a Lily main, I do think you were spot on with her feeling limited compared to the others. She lacks alot of things other characters have. No invincible dp, no throw loops, and her condor spire gets pretty gimped by Drive reversal. Imo all she needs is an invincible dp and for her wind charge to be a bit less laggy.
It feels like Capcom played it way too safe with her kit compared to the rest of the cast, She needs more ways to open you up and better defensive options.
@@Dizzifying1 I would agree if it weren't for one thing: zoners. One of her main weaknesses is her inability to set up when characters like JP are chucking projectiles left, right, and center. If it was DI cancellable it would solve her close range issues sure, but zoners would just punish the DI. If her light wind charge was faster, it would solve both problems, since she could just act faster out of close range normals for a DI, and she could sneak one in while being zoned and get her access to EX wind spire to deal with zoning.
@@whateveryouwantmetobe.1489 How fast are we talking here? It is currently 47 frames would you want it dropped to somewhere in the 35 range? What if we married both concepts. What if at 35 frames she gets the stock, but there are 12 frames of recovery. During those 12 frames she could ONLY block or DI. This way both issues are resolved accordingly.
@@Dizzifying1 That is a good idea as long as she can cancel the dance with block, D-Parry, or DI. I think it would help alot in both close quarters and long range. But I don't know how fast I would make it. Just fast enough so she isn't a complete sitting duck.
DeeJay was my main back in SF4 and I was so happy to see him come back with one of the best redesigns ive ever seen in a fighting game. Kimberly is awesome too, I’m a huge music guy and I love that both characters I use music in they’re kit somehow. That’s what made me play them
This whole street fighter 6 roster can be top tier . Capcom did a really good job . I don’t feel like no one fighter is unstoppable. You just have to pick the fighter that fits your play style.
I think it was Nemo that said the reason he thinks Lily is so weak is because she needs wind stocks just to be a usable character, and to get wind stocks you're forced to sacrifice any advantage/oki you get.
DeeJay seems to be the most popular in terms of usage , mix ups and overall difficulty to fight against especially with his drive rush , pokes and damage output
@@papamilfz1565 max is a professional content creator not a professional player. He rarely competes in tournaments at this point and I don't think he was every really a top player in any of the games he did take seriously. Maybe in the early days of KI? Either way he is definitely not a pro in sf6 and I'm sure he would say the same thing
@@democaf7192 Yeah, he's an ex-Pro Third Strike player and Third Strike was a very long time ago. Even he would admit he doesn't have that kinda skill in him anymore. He definitely still has a lot of the insight though.
Watching snake eyes ruined my perception of that character and now Idk what to think lol. At first I fought a few of them and was like eh he’s okay but struggles to get in on over half the roster but then I watched snake play him and was like wtf. He makes him look unstoppable . It honestly just goes to show that any character in the right hands can look pretty crazy for the most part
Jamie's mini-game and cool design made me play him, but I feel like is underestimated. The thing is he's hard to master. But for those who will, he has all the tools to beat anyone.
I actually think the overall tier placement for the character by most people I’ve seen is fair (mid-ish usually), but I whole heartedly believe this character has insane potential. I lose to Jaimes a lot because Jaime players are just really freaking good on average.
@@jaealxndryeah I think 2 drinks are a necessity. Anything after is bonus. 2 drinks gives you breakdance, new target combos, as well as buffing you up to 100% damage of your attacks rather than 90-95% of the prior drink levels
Nah man he's pretty undertuned, The divekick has a janky hitbox and gets stuffed by the weirdest moves and it's like impossible to aim it to make it safe. He has the worst dp in the game, it's probably still fine but worth noting. The command grab is literally useless. No safe on block special moves up close. The fact he needs 2 drinks to get his damage ender is rough. I've been playing him a lot and like him but he struggles, I think the drink system is fine as is just needs a few of his moves buffed a bit.
I get that Lily might not be that powerful, threatening or unpredictable as the other characters, but I really want to try maining her. I'm getting back into playing fighting games versus just watching them, and just something about her style really calls to me. We'll see how it goes 🤞🏾
She's not bad, just doesn't have the tools to complete at the highest levels consistently. Play her well and you can still make master rank, just not compete at the absolute highest level.
Any character in this game could win a tournament, top tier character in this game will just be slightly less work to get the same result but it's 100% possible to do good with any character
i think Jamie has some really bad matchups and also really good matchups. for instance, manon and guile are really bad because they outspace and zone out jamie. but against other characters who charge stocks, he can do pretty decently because of his lunge palm strike, and hes alright against projectile characters (that arent guile) because of breakdance. ive been able to get into plat with him, and hes the only character i play just because i think hes so fun. but his matchup spread is probably all over the place
As someone who is a fan of Lily, yea, pretty inclined to agree with the assessment here. She's fun, but incredibly simple and lacking the things other characters (even Gief) gets. I hope she gets more fun toys in the future, but I believe when people say she's bottom 1
What I love the most is the dev's decision to make JP feel like the 'final boss'. He's got crazy shit that no one else can do, his playstyle requires him to stay in control of the flow of the match, and the best counterplay is to be patient and methodical as you approach him. He definitely feels like a 5 star character, but not so broken that the rest of the cast is unviable. It's just very well done. That said, I'm really interested in A.K.I. I noticed that some of the enemies in world tour can poison you so it's pretty likely she'll be a disjointed threat with her claws that can focus on defensive play once she's poisoned the opponent.
Well they actually have the level 2 super nerfed. If you get level 4 regularly, you get 110% of your power. Though through this super, he’s capped at 105%. So if they buff drinks they could just nerf that damage cap to 100% for level 4. Instead of it being a big damage boost and your full kit, just have it as an instant access super to your full kit. What I think tho
I'm so happy seeing how good Dee Jay is now. In the majority of the games, he's usually "Guile but bad" and now my man is doing his own thing and being hella good at it. Nice.
I love the fact that you gave most characters a “4” which is most people are “above average” which means “you can play most people and see success!” To me that’s a good roster! It doesn’t need to be ‘balanced’ but the imbalance should be inspired and such
I'm new to fighting games, and I tried a couple of characters initially after a thorough "research" before the game launched. I soon realised that Luke had a natural flow to him when fighting. I feel I can be in control of what I do and in my matches when using Luke. I wondered if he would become my main, and he certainly did. Great character all around.
Luke is such an amazing character and it seems like everyone feels he’s the perfect character. So my question is, how do you change him? If they wanted to nerf him at all, what could be done? His whole kit is so good and works well together I feel he’s incapable of being bad
@@andimari9194 He's not OP by any means, so I see no reason why they would change or nerf him? Capcom did well to make pretty much all characters viable.
@@kimmern999 well, if capcom listens to top players they might nerf him. A lot of top players say he’s best or top 3. That’s what I was alluding to more so. So if capcom ever would nerf him ever, I wonder how they could other than maybe damage??
@@andimari9194 Well did they ever nerf his infinite blockstring he can do against characters in burnout from the most recent beta? That'd be a good place to start if they haven't.
as a guile main i think 4.5 is apt. guile is really strong but he only has really good fundamentals, he doesn't have JP or Deejay shenanigans to make him pop up to S+, it is also very hard to convert neutral into damage, and he is weak to DI
Definitely don’t think he’s weak against DI at all. All of his moves recover in time to DI back. Definitely think he’s top tier. His buttons are ridiculous
@@ryandavis4936 right but if you’re just spamming them on auto pilot then they’re weak. If he presses it here and there then he can counter all of them
A Street FIghter 5 character in a Street IFghter 6 world is the best description of Lily I think I've ever heard. She feels like she's missing something.
Really hoping to see Max do a full playthrough of World Tour mode someday. I've been holding off on watching other peoples' videos on it specifically because I want to experience it vicariously through the Dood himself.
The main thing about Guile in SF6 is his ability to strip away drive gauge in neutral and consistently punishing jumps with flash kick. Reaching Guile is one thing, keeping your drive bar intact is another. Upside down kick is also cracked.
I love seeing max just dig deep into this game since it released. It’s so good. All the characters are viable options, which a telltale sign of a good fighting game
Alright. I'm not a fighting game guy at all. I think the last one I owned was that soul calibur game on the gamecube. But after watching all of Max's SF6 content, I decided to give the game a shot! Wish me luck!
I've been maining Lily and while she's really fun she had some matchups that feel horrible. She needs an invincible dp and special cancelable medium punches. Characters with fast drive rushes make it incredibly tough to get wind stocks and maul her. She still has great damage and can blow you up if you let her get rolling but she's got too many system wide counters to her gameplan.
I'd say a good first buff would be just letting her keep her remaining stocks for next round. I don't even play her but my friend does and that seems completely fair. I think they should tweak characters slowly though so they don't overdo it by accident.
SF6 really favors generalist rushdowns, because the drive system rewards them the most. Abundance of EX meter from the start gives them a better chance to skip neutral and also gives them better options on wake up. Not to mention Drive Rush cancels allows some "low-damage" characters to really get up there at the expense of skill/meter. Also Drive Impact cancels makes throwing buttons as a rushdown less risky.
Have you ever encountered a really good JP, Guile, Dhalsim or Ryu? I’m in Diamond rank with Cammy and DJ and those guys will be chucking projectile at a distance to make Zangrief want to cut a promo mid match. It all depends but higher you go you’ll encounter different styles. Zoning is very viable just not as brain dead as some other 2.5 fighters. Even with the Drive Rush and Impact a well timed fireball will disrupt it or set your opponent up to counter your DI.
@@mr.b5663 I agree those characters are good, but I don't think any of them get to abuse the system like Rushdowns do. Exception being JP, because he actually has a decent response to everything that pressures him.
I love the idea if Jamie retained at least some drink between rounds. One of the reasons Manon is so great is because she keeps her stacks. Jamie has to work so hard for four stacks, but by the time you get it the round's going to end in one or two hits. And of course they'd have to tweak his level 2 into something more if getting stacks isn't so hard.
I kinda wish Ryu would have the same amount, if not, slightly less tools than Ken that differ from Ken’s toolset. It just feels like he wasn’t given as much this time around as other characters to me and everyone knows what he can do. Ryu’s glow up is really cool, but I feel like something is still missing (like more stuff to play with) when I compare to other characters, especially Ken. Of course I could just play Ken, but I just think Ryu is cooler and it would be nice to have tools that are more meaningful for him and his somewhat defensive, yet balanced and precise style instead of choosing a more offensive directed route. On a random note, I wish he kept his cross up tatsu gimmick from third strike, where you have to guess which side to block after wake up.
WOW. The perspective of someone else. I never heard anyone say Kimberly is easier to fight against now she doesnt have a wakeup dp. Us mains have been hoping it returns. lol
11:49 - I definitely agree, cuz when I first picked up this game I definitely thought that I'd be maining Ken but now I think he's just a really good character to learn and understand a lot of the key aspects of Street Fighter 6 and whether or not you stick around to play the character really depends on your perspective after you've gotten a grasp on everything. Just my own perspective on it as someone who hasn't dedicated myself to Street Fighter or any conventional fighting game in years. Ended up switching over to Dee Jay but I've got Guile in my back pocket too lol
You were spot on with Ken. As a Ryu main he honestly feels like a better version of Ryu, because his mechanics just gel with SF6 so well... Of all the SF6 characters he's the SF6-iest
Yeah, and his speed gives him some great help with certain matchups that are kinda rough for Ryu, namely the JP matchup. Ken has two moves that move him forward so fast he phases through JP's fireballs and then ends up plus on block, where as Ryu is much slower and has to slowly struggle his way through a lot of bullshit.
Also I use dhalsim since he plays like alpha 3 a lot. But I really think his air fireball needs a buff to either break DI or make it to where his fireballs can be unblock-able on charge or make it meaty
When the leak originally dropped I decided I was gonna try maining him. Disappointed he wasn’t launch so I’ve just been bouncing around waiting til he drops. Very excited
I used to find jamie the easiest to play against since he felt pretty basic and readable but going up in ranks and having played good jamie’s they were way saucier and started cooking me
Guile, Ken, Luke, Manon and dee jay all seem pretty strong to me. Also chun li seems kinda strong too idk why but I’ve been struggling against her a lot. 1 character I thought was gonna be really strong but doesn’t seem to be at all is lily. She’s almost too simple if that makes sense and it’s easy to get wind stocks but then once you use them you have to get them again so it’s like this perpetual loop of always needing to earn stocks whereas a character like manon her level up system carries over between rounds
I really like this perspective that almost all the characters are great, just depends on the player’s capability to utilize the character’s moves and learn to read other players. I really hope that any buffs/nerfs in the future dont create a super sweaty meta where 2-4 characters become absolute monsters while everyone else is pretty ass in comparison
She's really fun, I've stopped playing other characters but it can be frustrating watching other characters blitz around at 100mph. She needs help she's so vulnerable drive impact.
She has some strong options but her game plan is very limited and she can't do much without wind stocks. She's not garbage or anything but she needs a little extra spice to compete at top level.
I don't know. I'd put Chun Li at around a 3.5, because she's good, but she has a lot of unique mechanics that you don't see a lot of people utilizing in day to day online fights. So she has yet to show just how good she can really be.
Something about Chun Li reminds me of Angel in kof. At least in the sense that most people who play her are mid and not really using her toolkit to max potential, but when you do run into those people who really know the character it’s absolutely terrifying.
People who utilize her insane walk speed in wake-up situations for shimmies are the ones that scare me the most. It immediately tells me this fecker knows what he’s doing lol.
@@RanOutOfSpac IIRC she has the highest back walk and is top 3 for forward movement. Chun Li be shcmoovin, and if she puts you in an oki situation, it's kinda terrifying.
Good Vid Max. Yh i would say that is a very fair Assessment, it defo depends on Players Skill Levels and Characters Match-ups but i feel every Character can do well.
Funny enough I’ve always being a fast type movement characters kinda guy but with Marisa I’ve kinda stepped down on fast characters. Marisa has something incredible about her that made me drift away from fast characters like Kimberly and cammy. My main in sfv was Cammy and I still play her from time to time in sf6 but I’m putting more time in Marisa.
I love where you placed Kimberly she has a lot of options and should be rated that high but time will tell if this holds the game is so young and the sky is the limit
Hmm.. I recently switched off of casual controls. So making my inputs out to be muscle memory is a bit hard considering this being my first owned street fighter and all. Plus im coming from platform fighters.
Manon feels like a feast or famine kind of character to me. Either you can read the opponents will and testament, or you're getting footsied into forever jail. Command grab will eat DI, but its hard to do that on reaction. I need more time to figure out neutral for her, as she doesn't get away with alot without a 2 or 3 bar drive tax.
Jamie drink mechanic is dope, I see no problem with it except that I think it resets between rounds. It would be great the lvl mechanics are maintained between rounds all across the board, but is has to be balanced to account for that.
Sometimes in Max videos I feel like the audio mix of the Outro music and his Final Words is sort of off. Too in favour of the Music and doesn't hit that "this is the end of our regularly scheduled programming" I think it's going for during that transition. I feel like if you look at a video series like "Delayed Input with Kyle Bosman" you kinda see how he uses that "end of episode" audio transition more effectively. Dunno if that's something the editing team or Max agrees with but just thought I'd mention it.
@@kingofdragons7You didn't get it. I was saying that it doesn't matter to me where Cammy is on a power list, she'll still be my favorite. Period. As for the latter part, I meant it doesn't matter where she lands in the sense of "Oh, she is trash, guess she isn't my favorite anymore". I don't care if Blue Team or Red Team wins, it will still be fun to watch, that kind of mentality. That is what I meant. I'm terrible at conveying my thoughts and feelings, sorry about that.
It's funny how Marisa has all these glaring flaws; than on paper make her seem super bad, then you watch top players make her look like she's got no flaws and just kills you before you even get a chance to mount a comeback lol
First off, I'm not good at all, prob never will be, but I've always loved Chun Li in every iteration. In SF6 tho I really feel like I'm bashing my head against a wall with her for no reason when Juri is right there. I love Chun's stances mechanic, I love her overdrive options, I just feel like I'm never gonna have the technical chops to use her on the level her tools demand and while also just having a fun time playing Street Fighter.
lily was my day one , shes really fun to play as, but when i tried out marisa, it was like a match made in heaven... super fun to play, alot of stuff you can use and combos that feel fun and sick to pull off.
@Editor: The sound effect for the stars appearing on the screen seems like a bad idea. It is too loud and made me jump because it sounds like a 'virus detected' sound. Just some food for thought, keep up the good work!
I'm glad that every character here even if they aren't at the top of everyone's tier list, can still be usable and not be completely useless. And even if some of them are, anyone can love something from each character's personality that people would still play them no matter what. The game has so much personality and that extends to the characters as well and we really have to commend what Capcom was able to do in this game.
"Youre not gonna pick him and whoop ass" Zangief is my highest ranked character even though my main is Kimberly cause I just won 9/10 placement matches snd got put straight into plat 3. I still think even on classic he basicslly plays himself with his absolutely absurd damage.
This game is really well balanced all things considered. Each character has something to bring to the table and different people that specialise in certain styles will do really well against anyone of them, even if the other person is as good as them. Jp for instance is great not because his stuff is cheap to fight against but because people just haven't figured out how to deal with this new archetype. As people play more and learn more, they begin to understand what they need to do counter him using their own playstyle.
Players did start to figure him out. Then it turned out all the JP players were actually just lazy and bad and once they actually got good at the game he got way better again.
Im a Zangief main and what max said is absolutely true. Im at at gold 4 almost at diamond and it's been tough getting there but i love when i get a hed read on someone powerdrive em
