He is a talented song writer, dancer. He burned like a comet against the sun and was forgotten. He is way better than Michael Jackson who inspired his talent. He was raised in Florida as a Pentocostal and was not allowed to listen to popular music. Then he saw Michael on television at a friend's house and a Star was born.

Fun Fact: The drumbeat on this song was on a drum machine that Terence had had setup in his in-home recording studio and when the technician who set up the machine was demonstrating how it worked, it started playing this particular drum track Terence wrote this song in about 15-20 minutes and gave a songwriting credit to the technician who set up the drum track machine

Terence Trente Derby adopted the name Sanada Maitreya singing the song live years later. Just amazing. You may have a rteaction to that live performance of his iconic voice in 1995. The original was in 1987

Terence Trent D'Arby was brilliant, this is from his first, and most successful album. I had three albums and they were all amazing but then he just disappeared, he's still recording apparently but under the name Sananda Francesco Maitreya, although I have to admit I haven't heard anything later than his third TTD album which includes a great duet with Des'ree called Delicate. Well worth checking out more of his hits, Rain, Sign your name across my heart, If you let me stay Do you love me like you say and Let her down easy.

Hey young people, yess, yess, Trent has the pipes, huh and yeah the vocals, if you didn't see him, you'd swear he was way older, we know, we were shocked too when he came on the scene!, and when I first saw him, he reminded me of JAMES BROWN, JAMES BROWN(like the Tom Tom club says), you know James moved like that ya'll, doing splits, sliding onto the stage, twirling,.lol James did all that too, thats probably where this brother here got that, and as for Michael, Michael said he got his dance ideas from Fred Astaire, and Gene Kelly, I think Gene is in one of his videos, not sure, he was still alive at the time, old Hollywood brilliance, Trent can dance too that move with the mic, (James use to do that too), and more, you need.to check out "Dance Little Sister, fast and sassy, and "Sign Your Name, very romantic, slow, reminds me of "Father Figure ", by George Michael, Keep going, enjoy,, Godspeed, Peace ✌

Terence Trent D'Arby was the UK's answer to Michael Jackson and Prince in the 1980s. He has a singing voice like Sam Cooke, and can really work a stage very well. MJ came out in the 60s. Prince came out in the late 70s. Terence Trent D'arby came out in the 80s. MJ and Prince was born in the same year 1958. Terence was born in 1962. Terence changed his name to Sananda Maitreya and moved to the UK after Hollywood elites forced him out of the United States. You can find Terence telling why he was forced to leave on RU-vid interviews. Hollywood elites felt Terence Trent D'arby looked similar to Prince. Michael Jackson and Prince was at the top of their Game in the 80s. Hollywood music industry...elites didn't want Terence disrupting their fame around this time. Terence's fan base was growing fast. And Terence was a gifted artist like MJ and Prince. Terence was influenced by MJ, Prince, James Brown an other artists from back in the 50s and 60s. Terence could have been large here in the United States. But Terence is a famous artist in the UK.
