In todays video I visit The Elizabethan House in Great Yarmouth. It was built in around 1596 and has had many incarnations since. Once one of the finest houses in Great Yarmouth it's location in the Historic South Quay makes it a lovely visit for an hour or two if you are visiting the town. It was allegedly the location for one of the most important political decisions in English History. The place where the execution of Charles I was discussed and decided in 1649.
The house is currently maintained by Norfolk Museums on behalf of the National Trust. Entry is free with a National Trust membership but there is a small entry fee for none members.
You can find more details about visiting the Elizabethan House here:
www.elizabethanhouse.norfolk.gov.uk including opening times.
As always all filming, editing and research is done by me.
Thank you for watching my video, it is so appreciated. If you have a moment to like and subscribe it is so helpful to me and helps not just my confidence but my channel grow to show you more hidden gems and showcase the wonderful social history of England and beyond.

I remember my Gran using a mangle when we lived with her in the early 70s - the buttons on her stocking tops would get caught. And I'm told we were washed in a tin bath in front of the fire... Though Mum very swiftly bought a caravan bath and water heater at the local auction rooms and put a bathroom in!

Oh man.. I do know about them 🤣🤣🤣 that's kind of grim isn't it ... if you are interested in the more unspoken history I can really recommend a podcast called Betwixt the Sheets - it's blinking brilliant! ❤️

@throughlucyslens yes it's hideous.. but most things are to do with the treatment of women. Surane Jones did a great history perspective of witches and Prof Ron Hutton was on there.. he's a great person to listen to on podcast too.. thanks for the tip I shall seek it out!

Hi Lucy, I am so glad you uploaded a video today! I must tell ya I got the biggest laugh when you took a sniff of that bar of soap then said “ I just love the smell of carbolic soap. “ I thought “huh, what does CAR BOLLOCK SOAP, smell like??” I thought about it for a moment let my imagination run wild and said to myself, “self, why not turn on the cc, she’s a UK woman who has the same sort of accent as one of your fave old time rock n rollers Ozzy Osborne.”Turned on the CC and Sure enough, it carbolic soap! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🧼🧼🧼🧼. I never heard of it before, now I know! Take care, thanks for the laugh & the tour it was great! Have a great week! 💕🇺🇸

Aww thank you! Yes I indeed share an accent with Ozzy! He was born in Aston maybe 5 or so miles away from where I am sat now. His house is still there but it's privately owned now. Glad I gave you a laugh, I'm always "paranoid"'about my accent (get it? 🤣) ❤️
