he was honest ... even said what he did to try and remedy it as well ... and learned 2 things ... he didnt salt it enough ... and that seasoning the layers is a much better option so better not forget that in future ... BOTH excellent lessons to learn ... . still I would have been proud of all the dishes if any of them were mine ... it would also have been the first time i ever made it ... so I would know i got something wrong ... and would want to know what it was ... it takes failure to make success

@@theamigo6783 In Masterchef, there are always standards when it comes to cooking and plating. My opinion is that the US judges are much harsher than the CA ones. Personally, I do understand whenever Joe throw food in the trash, cuz the aim of Masterchef is restaurant quality, not some kind of television dishes or crappy presentation on the dishes that is given to him and other judges.

Coulibiac is an amazing pie! I prefer meat coulibiac. During the Soviet Union, we were often served this dish in kindergarten. We were generally well fed. The truth is that I, like any children, was very picky about food. And I hated beef tongue and many other goodies. But this kulebyaka(coulibiac) was delicious.

Actually, in Russia most of the cooks separate those layers with a very thin layer of pastry, so they don't mix at all. This one is also overly complex, 2 or 3 fillings are just about right

In medieval Russian history, most spices, except for the herbs that grow in Russia (parsley, dill, garlic, onion, hren - Russian bitter ginger, raspberry and strawberry leaves. Nothing spicy in particular.) would be as expensive as gold. Literally prices in gramm : gramm type weight proportion. Even salt would be pretty expensive and had taxes inside, like alcohol pr oil today.

"I hope my sauce doesn't send me home" and the dramatic music like, Great British Baking Show does a good job of being a calm yet incredibly interesting cooking show. The emphasis on drama takes away from what's is innately an interesting program.
