1. Dan Domenech ( That riff was PERFECT ) 2. Ryan McCartan ( Do I even have to explain the reason? ) 3. Thomas Sanders ( He lowered the key but still amazing )
1.) Ryan McCartan (he’s just the perfect JD imo) 2.) Dan Domeneck (that high note was goals!) 3.) Jamie Muscato (just really solid all around) 4.) Zachariah Sterner (loved the emotion, you could really feel his pain) 5.) Thomas Sanders (that alternative riff he did was beautiful!)
Dan Domenech Always Dan Domenech Not even just the “don’t open a vein” part. It’s just so colorful the way he sings up to that point. Plus his production was the first I saw and I’m just in love.
I honestly prefer Dan because he makes it like an actual person. He also has lots of emotion. Next, Ryan because he does it great, and has the psycho part down, but he's more of a character than a person. The others are acceptable, but Dan and Ryan are my favorites.
yeah i love that his voice has a little roughness but it doesn’t stop him from hitting those notes. some of these guys’ voices were just too sweet. strong and hit the notes and everything they just didn’t have the same rasp i always though JD would have.
@@papyrus8983his 'yee haw' is a bunch of accents he put on to show how often jd moves around, he's 100% my favourite jd and the accent adds to much character in my opinion

While I’m disappointed that Thomas didn’t get all the way up there, I appreciate that he knows his limits and when to take an alternate melody unlike some of these other dudes... But also Dan slays my existence every time.
I know Ryan did it really well and most people like him but the way Dan went super hard on that last note and ended it so suddenly was amazing and left the silence afterward so much more stunning. It just has way more impact imo
It was a short clip of each Heathers songs that was put together in a video on Heathers The Musical's official channel. it's not really what you're expecting it is though.
Personally (coming from someone who has no idea about the technicalities of singing) I believe that Dan had the best vocal approach but nobody really captures JD’s personality like Ryan. The way he sang made him look and feel like a psycho haha. Everyone was amazing vocally but a lot of them forgot that they had to play a character while singing and Ryan just does such a good job of representing JD’s unstableness from the way he never blinks / never breaks eye contact but still moves his head. It’s very well done.
My favs: Ryan McCartan (because you can’t go wrong with the original), Jeremy Jordan (because he is literally one of my favorite people ever), Thomas Sanders (because Thomas...is there anything more needed to be said), and Zachariah Sterner (because his production was the first I found and I fell in love immediately) Edit: one year later and I didn't realize this comment blew up wow thanks guys!! Also I must now add Jamie Muscato to my list as I found a bootleg of the West End Heathers and let me tell you I had chills going through my entire body when he sang the Freeze Your Brain climax. This video did not do him justice at all.
Dan Domenech. Always Dan Domenech. The pain and the emotion in his voice. Just. Just Dan Domenech. Like everyone doing it the same and he’s like nah, I’m gonna hit the high note over here. I can’t even, I’m fangirling so hard. Dan Domenech. (also Thomas Sanders because he’s freaking Thomas Sanders what else should I say tf)
Lol agreed. I liked Dan's because he hit the high notes super well and for Thomas Sanders, his was super unique and smooth. Also, I love Thomas as well so of course he's going to be one of my favs lol ☺
4:45 I think this JD's director told him to "EMPITHIS EVERY NOTE" and he took it literally😅 5:58 this sounds like drunk karaoke 8:00 Veronica over here all like. "Yeah JD hurry it up I gotta go have Big Fun!"😏
Why is nobody talking about Zachariah? He was an absoulutley brilliant JD with an amazing voice. Definitely deserves more credit because he fit that role so well.
Zachariah Sterner's Heathers production was the first one I watched and I still think he was such a brilliant JD. He perfectly captured the charming but still psychotic charcter that JD is and really was just perfect for the role. Anyone else agree?

I know we’re all here for the voices, but I do like looking at the differences in all the costumes. It’s cool to see how different productions handle it :)
My top five in order: 5. Me in the shower or maybe illegal heathers 4. Ryan McCartan (his is obviously a bit autotuned) 3. Wendell Scherer 2. Jamie Muscato 1. Dan Domenech Can people shut up about Ryan not being autotuned!? He isn't autotuned live, but the clip in this video is from a footage. Footages are supposed to be autotuned, it's fine.
@@kamypark7346 I actaully have seen Heather's 8 Times in New York and 9 Times in London. So yeah I saw Ryan. And this video is a footage and autotuned.
Antonia H. no he sang it live (not in heathers) like just him infront of tons of people and it definitely wasn’t auto tuned because he was talking before it and his voice was completely normal
Me: *Trying to take serious this part of the song * Video: *Savage photo of Thomas appears super happy as the cinnamon roll he is,but singing a depressing thing* Me: *W H E E Z I N G INTENSIFIES*
My faves: 1. Dan Domenech (homeboy did not have to go that hard on that 'open a vein' but he did and he has earned my respect) 2. Zachariah Sterner (Give. My. Boy. The. Love. He. Deserves. Also the way he sings "back on the road" is amazing) 3. Wendell Scherer (again, boy did not have to go that hard but he did, also I feel like he brings out JD's twitchy insanity) 4. Me in the shower
I love that this channel doesn’t actually pick a winner. Most “Who sang it best videos” make it a competition and then pretty much say a bunch of them are shit. Sometimes I just want me a compilation. also wendell scherer was amazing. so was Ryan McCartan. same with Dave Thomas Brown. this was a horrible recording of Jamie Muscato, but he is SOOOO GOOD. He’s my favourite JD ever And so beautiful. If I wasn’t gay before I found him, he would have been my Gay Awakening. Ryan Glander was kinda cute. Tyler Fernandez was good. Smiley Marmann was really good, but he looked a little old..... JEREMY JORDAN WAS AMAZING I LOVE HIM. Thomas Sanders was fantastically beautifully amazing as per usual. Charlie Meredith was absolutely beautiful.
Aw, wish you guys could hear what Wendell sounded like at every other performance when he nails the high note! Maybe we'll have to record him singing it again...
I actually liked this version, it somehow fit into the character and he's just soooo awesome. Your version is simply uncanny, love you so much. And yesssss record the whole thing as many times as you want, you're both such awesome performers.
I have a bias but it goes (for me): 1. Ryan McCartain (c’mon, you know why!) 2. Don Domenech (bruh did you hear that riff) 3. Thomas Sanders (he’s a bass and J.D. is a tenor and he still did an amazing job on it. Also I love the creative liberties he took with the riff!) Edit: Also I’m a Fander so I have bias for Thomas Sanders but I still think he did an incredible job :3
@@imyourmomnow836 Probably because he had to go through 8 shows a week and that would take a toll in his voice but yeah i think he kinda sounds off here although there's probably other vids where he sounds better
Ryan, Dan and Thomas are forever my favourites at this song. Ryan has that perfect psycho energy, Dan with the run up at the end instead of down, and Thomas ended with almost a gasp is mwah chefs kiss
DUDE HE SURPRISED ME LIKE HE WAS JUST MY GOD AH PERFECT. LIKE WITH NONE OF THE OTHERS DID I ACTUALLY LIKE PHYSICALLY REACT BUT TO HIM I WAS LIKE "0.0♡"
Okay, hear me out here, I know Thomas didn't even shoot for the high note, but he does have a lower register, and he did play JD a long time ago. His sick riff more than makes up for that, so I'll give Thomas Sanders the gold medal. Okay, I might be a liiiittle biased. (I expected Jeremy to get the high note too in all honesty, I'm surprised he didn't even really shoot for it either. I keep thinking about the last note of Let Me Make You Proud, but his JD was also from a long time ago, so maybe he hadn't extended his range enough then)
I'm pretty sure there is only 2 actors so far that have sung it (George Salazar and then someone else) so i don't think there is enough people available but I may be wrong.
I feel like JD is just so hard to cast because he needs to have like a really rough bass voice but then also have the ability to hit a tenor note and I think so many people just cast tenors and make freeze your brain a ‘pretty’ song even when it’s supposed to be more rough. In my opinion I’d rather people change the notes so they are lower than cast a tenor as JD but that’s just my personal preference
Thomas the one in the vid is actually a bass. Mainly saying that because one you guys pointed you never heard a bass sing the song or something like that
Everyone was pretty great, I LOVED seeing the different choices some of these guys took for JD's mannerisms during this part. I really liked Stephen, Dave, Ben, Nathan, Travis, Jonathan (proud to have done the show with him!), Mikey, Dan (always liked him better than Ryan), and Zachariah. But the two that really stood out to me were Wendell (his voice may have cracked but man he's got so much power in his voice) and Michael.
