Welcome back! With reports that Manchester United have increased their search for the next manager after Ralf Rangnick, today I’m going to be answering the question Who Should Be Man Utd’s Next Permanent Manager? Join me as I take a look at the tactical styles of some of the candidates as I assess who I think would be the best fit at the club.
► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: bit.ly/StatmanD...
Julian Lopetegui has rebuilt his reputation at Sevilla but if United are going down that route then I’d rather see Graham Potter at Old Trafford. Brighton have been sensational under Potter, playing in a variety of shapes and systems but maintaining their possession-based style independent of the opponent. He has already beaten Guardiola, Klopp, Mourinho and Pochettino which has been insanely impressive considering the budget Potter has had at his disposal. Lopetegui is probably best suited to a Leicester City sized role, taking a top half club and breaking into the top 6. His tiki taka style is a lot slower than what is required at Manchester United, with his teams focusing on ball possession in a 4-3-3 with a half back, rather than the progression that the Old Trafford faithful would demand.
► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: bit.ly/SMDTwitch
Luis Enrique is another man that’s been heavily linked. The current Spain boss is favours a vertical tiki taka style in a 4-3-3. His treble winning Barcelona is almost ignored because he followed Pep Guardiola but his side could be more entertaining than the Manchester City boss as he got the best out of one of the greatest attacking trios of all time: Messi, Suarez and Neymar. His Barcelona team was all about creating 1 v 1s for the world class forwards, often through diagonal switches of play, but his Spain side is a little bit different. His best players are his central midfielders but like a great coach, Enrique has adapted his system to get the most out of his stars. Enrique’s Spain use wide wingers and build with inverted full backs to give as much freedom to his central midfielders as possible.
Mauricio Pochettino is another name constantly mentioned. His philosophy blends perfectly with that of Manchester United, playing high tempo, attacking football with academy graduates and youth development at the centre. He took Spurs from knocking on the door of the top 6 to the Champions League final in 5 seasons and based his team around a 4-2-3-1, using attacking full backs, a controlling midfielder paired with a ball carrier and a focal point striker. At PSG he’s used a 4-3-3 but his hands have been tied with a superstar front three of Messi, Mbappe and Neymar so he’s been forced to use a work-man-like midfield three to accommodate the lack of defensive work rate. He’s received criticism during his time in Paris but I wouldn't write Poch off. We saw Thomas Tuchel slated for his work in Paris only for him to move to Chelsea and be heralded as one of the best managers in the world.
And finally Erik ten Hag. A 4-2-3-1 man through and through, Ten Hag has used two variants of this shape. His 18-19 Champions League semi-finalists were more of a 4-2-1-3, that transitioned to a passing diamond filled 3-3-1-3. Meanwhile this season we’ve seen a traditional 4-2-3-1 with an evolution in his attacking structure to become a 3-2-2-3. His 4-2-3-1 is made up with a ball playing back four and goal keeper, with one central midfielder heavily involved in the build up, rotating positions within Ajax’s structure, whilst the other is more box to box that interchanges positions with the attacking players. Meanwhile, the wingers take up wide positions to stretch the pitch and create space centrally for the box to box and attacking midfielder to create from.
Statman Dave Clips ➡ bit.ly/StatmanC...
Manchester United can’t really go wrong with Graham Potter, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino or Erik Ten Hag. All four are sensational managers with a real tactical identity that would meld with the work Ralf Rangnick has already done at Old Trafford.
But anyway guys what do you think? Who do you think should be the next permanent manager at Manchester United? And how would they set the Red Devils up? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Ten Hag is my favorite to take the role, he implements a fluid attacking squad and his ability to create great teams with low budget says a lot. Also, loosing big names and still competing in the champions league shows he’s a genius and will make United great again

I think it will benefit Donny a LOT by having his old manager at Utd, and he will finally play frequently But the major factor to decide if we get Ten Hag is if we get Top 4, which is likely if we continue our form, and to hold on for those tough fixtures against City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Also we need to beat Arsenal and Tottenham for them to drop points so they have a lesser chance of gaining on us.

I'm an Ajax fan from the Netherlands and Ten Hag would be an amazing option but as it is with al managers, he should be supported by the club by signings and stuff. And I fear United is such a mess on the football side, I am afraid ten Hag won't het the support he deserves which will make the project fail. Ten Hag is less of a personality than the likes of pochettino. At Ajax, Ten Hag is mostly actually doing the first team and training the team while Marc Overmars is in charge of the signings and talking with the agents and stuff. United has to have the right structure in place to make it a success but I guess that's the case for every manager they choose and is something that is needed if they want to compete with city, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Ten Hag would be my first choice. Then probably Enrique, even though I kinda would like to see what Potter could do with United. I have loved him ever since he lead Östersund from the Swedish wilderness into the european aristocrasy. But Potter has never managed a really big club, so... Lopetegui is probably at the end of that list for me. But Pochettino is not far ahead. I really hope we don't end up with him. I'd rather see Rangnick stay at the wheel than Pochettino.

Erik ten Hag should be the way to go. Easily one of the best managers in the world right now and tactically he'd suit us the best. If he isn't the one, then the order should be Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino then Graham Potter. Enrique should in theory excel at United and he would be my number one choice if he wasn't with Spain at the moment. Pochettino deserves a gig at some point. As for Potter, he needs to go to a bigger club before he comes to us. I feel he needs that development first before he comes to us.

But Ten Hag is the perfect man for United, Plays great football, can build and rebuild sides and nutures the youth through. What more do you want from a manager? Poch shouldn't be anywhere near the United job at the moment, Enrique is not leaving the Spain job before the world cup, lopetegui(however you spell it) is not good enough. Other options are Gallardo or the Sporting manager as outsiders but Gallardo won't be looked at and the Sporting guy is probably not big enough for this board.

I reckon Rangnick could do good things if he stayed as manager beyond when he’s supposed to move into the consultancy role. I’m impressed at the progress we’ve seen in a really short timeframe. There wasn’t the new manager bounce - it’s more the kind of progress in fundamental player behaviours (particularly off the ball) that we haven’t had at Utd for such a long time. I can’t help but feel the problems at the club run deep, and we need someone who makes a great cake before we get someone who’s good at piping icing.

Enriqiue would also be incisive in terms of building his team- players like Maguire would be sold or rightfully benched if underwhelming. Enrique would also be able to construct Uniteds first decent midfield pairing- would love to see Fabian Ruiz in the prem (I wish arteta would sign him for Arsenal), and finally Enrique brings tactical experience. I mean Enrique is able to get the best out of players looking at his Spain squad its impressive how his got youth and experience blending while placing performance standards and not simple names when calling up players.

Plus also decide the structure of the club and what his future role will be. I dont think any other manager has had as much work to do as he will be doing in next few months its exciting as a united fan to see him take charge and work his way through a club which for a very long time has not had a man who could change the future of this club so drastically be it mourinho or van gaal.

Shaw is much better going forward than Telles, he's a better ball carrier, passer and creator, he also actually overlaps which is something Telles very rarely does. The only thing Telles has on him is his crossing from deep, not exactly sure why you'd put him in a side based on him being more similar to Jordi Alba, because he's just not lol.

Shaw = 4 goals and 30 assists. Telles = 30 goals and 71 assists. Telles is definitely better going forward, but Shaw is better defensively. Shaw is the most balanced of the two
@dylanbyrne1265
@dylanbyrne1265 2 года назад
@@joelgriffin8222 Telles has also played way more games at a lower level and took all of Porto's set pieces, and Shaw has only really become a top level creator in the last 2 years. Right now Shaw is much better going forward, look at their underlying numbers. I would actually say Telles is the better and more proactive defender. Shaw's main weakness is his defensive positioning and his unwillingness to close down crosses.

I also think Ten Haag will be the right option as of right now but we can't decide so fast. I don’t understand Statman’s obsession with Flop Mctomminay, he’s an extremely limited midfielder who’s only attributes are running with the ball and passion. Nowhere near the likes of Pogba or Matic on a technical level let alone compared to what we used to see. And he’s meant to be starting every week even in a hypothetical Ten Haag system? Bore off please Statman the only way a manager as technically sound would work with someone like him is if he was forced to by this deluded board.

Ten Hag is good both tactical and philosophical wise however not really the mental for a top team with so many ego in the squad. Luis Enrique has amazing mentality and tactic however I doubt his tiki taka would fit in just like Ralf’s gegenpressing that die out after just one game because the players couldnt recover their fitness even after 2 weeks.
