Who Should Be The Next NBA Logo? | Jerry West and PG 

This man is 85. Looks tremendous and sharp for his age

I love PG’s last comment: ”So the NBA got it right, they chose the right silhouette.”

I don't know why anyone thinks Jerry West should be replaced as the logo. The man has been a part of the NBA for 63 years now ever since he got drafted in 1960. First as a player than as a coach then as an exec multiple times. He went to 9 finals as a player, he built 3 different dynasties as an exec. the Kareem/Magic lakers, Kobe/Shaq Lakers and the current Warriors. He's won 8 championships as an executive and that's leaving a bunch of titles that he deserves credit for on the table because he left his teams in the middle of their winning (i.e. he left the Lakers in '00 after the 1st of their 3 peat and he and left GSW in '17 the year after getting KD in the middle of their back-to-back years. He's at minimum responsible for 11 championships as an exec with many more finals appearances on top. There's no other person who ever lived whos done more for basketball than Jerry West. Anyone who mentions replacing him as the logo should be ashamed of themselves.

I love his answer. Heck even Paul didn't pick up the point Jerry was making. He doesn't want to be identified as the logo. The purpose of that logo was to give that budding league a symbol. It didn't have to be a star. It represented anyone and everyone. If you pick someone like MJ or Bron or Kobe or anyone else, it would make the logo very familiar. No one player represents the NBA. They can name awards after legends but the logo itself should remain an everyman.

The logo is perfect the way it is. No egos, no claim to fame, no real care other than the pure love for the game. Just about everyone who suggests that it should be changed is for 1 selfish reason or another and that's the exact reason why it shouldn't be changed.

Listen I never got to watch Jerry West play. I was born in 2002 but when studying the game and looking back at what I missed, I must say that I have so much respect and love for the man. I read about his life and I can relate to a lot of the struggle that he went through which include contemplating suicide. His perseverance helped me get through my own difficulties and become strong. If he can go through horrible struggles and become a legend in his field, then I can do the same. He has so much humility and humbleness and I love him for that. He was a great player but he's a legendary person.

They shouldn’t change it but should have ones for special occasions. For example to Make a Kobe silhouette for remembering 10 years after his death or something. But don’t completely change it.

Jerry West was the Kobe Bryant of his generation. His mentality, he had that mamba mentality we associated with Kobe back in the 60's. He couldnt win against the stacked Celtics and it gutted him. He was so obsessed with winning and not dealing with nobody else.

If they ever do change it, the logo should be a basketball, not another silhouette of a player. That would represent the league and the selfless aspect of a team sport. The NFL's logo is simply its initials. The NBA sometimes has a logo without the silhouette. It doesn't need a player, but it is fine as is

The logo is perfectly fine the way it is. If they selected a player, it would attribute too much to their likeness (ex: Kobe for fadeaway, Jordan for airness, Shaq for dunk) and make it lose its generality.

If the NBA does change the logo, they shouldn’t remove Jerry West from it. They should add other silhouettes of other legends from other eras that have defined the game to surround him and make a more modern multicolored design for the logo, include people like Jim Naismith, George Mikan & Bob Cousy, Bill Russell & Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson & Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan all in the backdrop of Mr. West’s Shadow
