And you shouldnt. Am5 is for new builds imo. If u got mostly am4 stuff, its absolutely NOT worth it at all. I have a high end am5 build myself. Its incredible but not worth double if u alrdy have alot of good parts
@@XXlegovidXx I thought so too. I unknowingly ran it super hot for 2+ years. It’d constantly hit 90 degrees under load. This eventually caused my CPU performance to dip to 70% of where it should have been. Games like THE FINALS would constantly stutter after 15 minutes of play. After I got a new cooler it never got past 65. It was pretty much too late cause even though CPU was much cooler the performance stayed the same. When I asked around online everyone told me that it was impossible for CPU’s to degrade within 2 years, even under high heat stress. I thought otherwise but maybe I was just unlucky lol
@@Defiancy yeah cpu degradation is 100% a thing with Ryzen especially, the auto voltage settings will default to about 1.4v, u never wanna go above even 1.275 tbh with 3rd gen ryzen so if it was on that which it sounds like it was, huge chance of degradation.
@@XXlegovidXx when I tried undervolting (after I noticed the CPU slowdown) my system became super unstable. It went away after I reverted the voltage settings to stock. Is this a common occurrence? I was thinking of undervolting my 5700X, but considering my temps are low and stable, would it even be worth it?
Future proofing is not as big of a deal as you make it, 9/10 you’ll be upgrading your gpu anyways and that would likey be atleast 4 years down the track. Most cpus will be able to hold up well even for 7 years plus so by then we’ll probably be on entirely new systems anyways so choosing different sockets for upgrade potential is stupid. Plus I would say not everyone is constantly striving to have the best possible pc out there. I mean I still have a 8700k and RTX3080 ! Going strong even in 2024 on 4K
I upgrades from a 3600x and rtx 2060 to a 5700x3d and 3080. I find myself cpu bound quite a bit on my 1080p monitor. But I totally get this video. Once ddr5 calms down on price, that'll be tbe move
I started my gaming build 2 years ago with a B550, 5600X and 3090 Ti. I upgraded to a 5800X3D, and I play MSFS in 4K at good FPS/graphical fidelity. Do I bump up against some limitations? Sure. So your video is spot on.
Guys let the platform age a bit, see where it goes. You never know when new PCIe or the new Thunderbolt killer interface is coming out. The tech goal Post is always moving and it seems faster than ever right now.
While I didn't go for the X3D on AM4, I went with the 5950x for the extra cores and threads because I also do video editing/production and rendering which need it as well as gaming
Fr, i got One used on ebay for 60€ with mx4 termal paste and RGB cooler included, It Is on pair with the 3600 and i paired it with a 2060. Its only downside Is that It does not have Sam/rebar, but actually It does not matter since 2060 does not support It either.
@@OasisTim yea but It does not really matter, if u dont have a rx6500 or rx6400, and even GPU like the 6600 only lose like 2% of performance on pcie3.0, with a pcie3.0 GPU It Is all u need
5700X is an excellent gaming CPU for the majority of games. However, if you play competitive esports titles you might find some value in a faster CPU. My pick for AM4 upgrades would certainly be the 5700X3D over the 5800X3D as it's significantly cheaper for similar gaming performance.
@@ImJustSomeoneNamedLucas 6800xt is about 30% better over all than the 6750xt, and going from 12gb to 16gb will future proof it for a while, plus where I'm getting it is actually a decent price right now.
@@NeroZenith If its less than $400 then the 6800 XT is a great deal! However if its like $450 you can get a 7800 XT at that price which shows passive improvements
@@NeroZenith Yeah. The 7800 XT has minimal pure performance uplifts since the main upgrade is features, ray tracing, AV1 encoding, and more support for FSR 3 and more. But if its over $100 more where you live, the 6800 XT is still perfectly viable
Synopsis- If you already have an AM4 setup, then go for it. It's a great CPU. If you're starting a new build, go with AM5. The MB and RAM are more expensive, but you can get a faster current gen CPU for less money than the 5800X3D and it has more room for future upgrades.
I just upgraded my Ryzen 5 3600 to R7 5800X3D and my FPS went around 40% up, it enabled infinity cache, and stuttering in games went away, editing videos also is going snoother and audio programs are a breeeze
Upgraded from 3700x to 5800x3d, with my 2080 I didn't notice any improvement as Im gpu bound. I was already aiming for a gpu upgrade and the 5800 was on sale so I got it first.
Same here, went 3600 to 5700x3d on a RTX 3070 running a UWQHD monitor, and only got extremely marginal avg FPS improvements; possibly seeing reduced microstuttering but can't really say!
@@rockjianrock Im running uwqhd also, I wasn't getting huge amounts of stuttering with the 3700 beforehand so its hard to say. I know Helldivers fps was unchanged.
@@MrYoyojuanyow I just also bought a 5700X3D to play helldivers in 1080p and just sold my 5600 still waiting for my 5700X3D to arrive cant wait to put that bad boy into my rig
My current Windows PC has an Asus X570 Mobo, 5800x3D, 32Gb 3600Mhz ram, 4TB of Nvme drive and a 7900xt. It does everything I need for the foreseeable future. I don't game much any more and this PC will last me a long time.
I'm stuck on am4 until I get the savings to do a full new build just upgraded to ryzen 9 and 32gb of ddr4 ram so not planning to switch anytime soon. Though when I do I'll probably just use the old parts to build my brother a computer.
@@TheAtomoh I like how they say "Well graphics cards have become more powerful" to justify the price when the high-end graphics cards back then were also powerful for their time.
Hi Zach. I live in Europe and a I do pc flipping. The problem is that I cannot find any fishtank like cases like the DIY Q3. What cases do I need to choose for the best aesthetics??? Love your videos.
Sadly in Hungary even with the cheapest AM5 CPU (7500f) it is too expensive. Like the motherboard I would pair it with is 200$, not to talk about Ddr5 ram(32gb costs like 130$). And that is why I'm going with AM4.
Zach I know I sound kinda dumb but what is the point of have8ng a more expensive motherboard I know dif slots and stuff but some have same stat's but more cost pls help me
I’m building my new pc and I got the Msi 650 pro motherboard with the ryzen 5 7600x with the 7800xt gpu so I think I’m good for quite a few years before I have to upgrade to anything else.
Hey i plan on upgrading my brothers pc and make it my own i will get a rx 6700 xt and upgrade the ryzen 5 5500 to a ryzen 7 5700x3d Is that a good combo or should i change some things
For me i use the ddr and am4 platform since 2017 or so. If i where to build new i would switch to ddr5 and newest socket intel or amd doesn't matter. But amazing cpu for the am4
just started my PC journey after owning a steam deck and a Lenovo legion go. I've been using my legion go on my Odyssey G8 monitor (yes I know it's a waste of a monitor for that device) but I reached out to microcenter where I am in Pennsylvania and they had a guy put two builds together oem for 2200 another for 3400. What should I look out for or be aware of ? Do I need an rtx 4090 with a Odyssey G8 ? Are those fancy cases on Amazon better than standard. Can I list off the parts he printed out for me ?
Currently using a Ryzen 5 3600 + RTX 4070 combo on a B450i Motherboard. Last night I ordered the Ryzen 7 5700X instead of the 5700X3D because the 5700X3D is 55% more expensive right now. I play on a 1440p monitor mostly with Triple A titles and some multiplayer games like COD and Dota 2. Did I make the right choice? Love your channel btw.
when i first built my pc i had a lian li case (which i’m thinking about switching), z690e motherboard, 32gb of ddr5 corsair ram, 1tb NVMe drive, i7 12700k, and a coolermaster cpu cooler and an 850w psu ……the only problem was i was part time at the time of building it so i had to save money for a graphics card….sooo i may have used a..GTX 760 for the time being until i was able to get a 3060ti a month later and now a 4070 in the last few months….yikes…
Hey, i want to buy a ryzen 5 7600x and im asking what gpu would fit good? And sorry to trigger you but i want a NVIDIA bc i want to play with raytracing
Zack won't get trigerred by Nvidia or AMD. He's just delivering which side is best for his audience. And for your GPU, the Ryzen 5 7600X can pair up with any GPU except maybe a 4090. I'd recommend a 4070 Ti Super or a 4080 Super if you have the money. Otherwise, a 3080 or a 4070 Super
I want to build a pc soon and ive been researching parts and picking parts and i know am5 is what i should go with it just ends up costing more when i try to choose my parts for that, but if i go with am4 it stays in my budget, idk if i should just suck it up and go for the am5 or if ill end up regretting going with am4
Hey I actually have an Ryzen 5 5600x Paired with a GTX 1660 i only have a 500W PSU I rly want to upgrade my GPU and im thinking about the 4060/4060ti 8 maybe 16 gb what would be your thoughts about that if i mainly play fortnite on low settings?? Love your content tho! Im learning so many things!
For those on a budget but want the best they can get and cannot upgrade at all until 2026/27 I actually still recommend the 5800x3d over am5. They don’t plan on upgrading until am6 is out and at times the 5800x3d has been as low as 270 at microcenter new when bought with a mobo and ram. Slap a peerless assassin on it and it’s golden.
is ryzen 5 5600 good pair with b450m? i plan to get rx 6700 xt for 1440p gaming but i am not too sure whether b450m will hold on to it, also, can u review if this build will work well for next 3-4 years
Rockin a 5600x with a 4080, works great with my 4k 60hz monitors. Although debating a final upgrade of the 5800x3d or 5900x since raytracing seems to need a bit more horsepower
5800x going strong with the 6600 ngl, Ik the gpu could be better but I rma'd the 3060ti atleast twice. 6600 and new 1440p montier, still running high/ultr on most games (yes even cyberpunk just no raytracing) and getting some fucking amazing fps.
day 1 of asking Zach if i should start pc flipping? I have a pc rn and the components are an i7-6700k no gpu 16gb 2100mhz ram, its just an optiplex 7040
Yeah the 5800X3D isn't dropping in price anytime soon because it's the best gaming GPU on am4 which allows for a lot of overall savings to upgrade an existing am4 build. Since lack of DDR5 is the only real limiting factor of the platform right now, it's going to be a while before switching to am5 or an Intel 12+ cpu becomes a real necessity.. X3D can handle I think up to a 4080 without noticeable bottlenecking. Probably the 4090 would be bottlenecked a bit, but at that point who's paying for 4090 and not a 13700+ or a top 3 am5 cpu🤷
i have an rtx 3060 (8gb im stuppid ik) and a ryzen 5 5500, i wanna play on 1440p 3a games, what cpu-gpu combo whould recomend, and also i cant buy them at the same time so what should i buy first, or should i spend more money for am5 motherboard ram and cpu?
Should I use the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X in a new setup (mobo, CPU, RAM) or is there a cheaper Socket AM5 I am missing? I My build is not for gaming but I do convert files and do a ton of multitasking. Since no gaming I plan on using an old PCIex3 GPU. I need a CPU I can run win 11 on.
