One of the mysteries surrounding the Royal Cemetery of Ur is the identity of the occupants of the tombs, the sequence of their reigns, and their relationships with each other. Dr. Miano provides an overview of the issues involved.

😮 I too, felt dubious about attributing the noble quality of disseminating unembellished truth to a mere historian. I postulate that he received Anonymous guidance from an Elite member of The Shadow government whose membership is, at least partially comprised of technologically advanced alien life forms possessing higher IQ and therefore exponentially greater capacity for logical deduction and acute comprehension of the futility of intuitive reasoning end speculative fantasy.

I am delighted that you will be doing more Egypt content. I am curious how you avoid what I have 'heard' is horrible behavior towards tourists in Egypt. I have wanted to go, but my husband keeps saying no to Egypt... partly because of the cost but also because of bad posts about it. He did go with me to the Roman sites in Trier last weekend, so I will keep him. 😉 Will you be doing more group trips? Maybe Greece or Rome? 🤞 Also, didn't you say you would be announcing a possible upcoming marriage? I hope I haven't missed it.

Human sacrifice was not standard practice in Mesopotamia, the Royal Tombs of Ur are in many ways exceptional, not standard. I always thought that the human sacrifice during burials were more so the fact these people were the possessions of the royal being buried just like his favorite chair or jewelry and if the tradition is you get to be buried with everything you own well then if you own some soldiers, workers or attendants they get buried to with their owner unless somehow it was specified by the Royal that their services have ended but if he royal had a surprise or sudden death then there wouldn't have been time for him to release anyone.

Repeating assertions doesn't qualify as evidence. Repeatedly misrepresenting the findings, consensus and methodology of various academic fields doesn't qualify as evidence. Asserting that various experts can't explain X doesn't count as evidence. That last point really is the one that showcases what it means to have evidence: When X is the assertion that ancient people Y _could not_ possibly have created/ achieved Z. With the secondary assertion that actually, ancient people Y really could, and so _did_ in fact create Z. But! only after the intervention of the as yet, undocumented in the literature, people A, from the as yet, undocumented in the literature, civilization B If someone is claiming that based on what they've discovered, it is _so_ obviously the factual case, that ancient people Y could not have created Z, then all anyone making this simple claim need do is: Firstly, present all of the evidence and research that led them to the (presumably difficult to process) understanding that literally _all_ of the accepted _published research_ , and the currently held consensuses derived from it, that has the appearance of continuing to be well supported by the ongoing works of countless actual experts, within multiple rigorous scientific, and academic fields, are all wrong. They are all using faulty frameworks and models, they really only seem to comport to predicted outcomes from testing hypotheses. I'm no expert, but I am 100% confident that ALL of the scientific awards and prizes are just one well presented case away! Either before or after being awarded a Nobel prize, doesn't matter at that point really, it should be a trivially simple matter of presenting all of the research done, along with the corroborating evidence that supports and demonstrates the strength of the newly proposed model, based on the overwhelming evidence for all the, formerly mere assertions, now the working hypotheses and models of multiple scientific and academic fields, that ancient people A existed, whose society was one of unprecedented knowledge and mobility for an ancient culture, comparable with modern, and moreover only within the last century's or so, most advanced knowledge and technology... And whatever else it is they they've got such slam dunky evidence for. There is eternal glory for overturning multiple scientific paradigms, there for the taking. I'm sure it's only a matter of time; they're probably busy working on putting their irrefutable case together.

Is not the fertile crescent so fertile for thought? I love your work. Thank you....(remember the name Tel Mozan. it is obscure but aught not be. It is not far from the plateau of Anatolia, near to Qamishli on the Syrian border...it sits abruptly on the Mesopotamian flat land) Remember, it is said that Abraham fled Ur because his father wanted to sacrifice him...and in turn "God said, take Isaac, thy son, and slay him in on Mnt. 80 years of ruling is a bit suspicious long, or do they mean he lived 80 years? It is not impossible he was king that long, particularly if he father died when he was really young and the regent doesn't count but it still seem unlikely. Or did they mix in his father reign in there too in a later clergical error? Otherwise it should be relatively easy to figure out if that un-named grave is his because I don't think skeletons over 80 years old was very common even among the elite at the time. It is certainly an interesting site, the only older royal graves we have are a few in Egypt like Pharaoh Scorpions grave and all we found there so far have been plundered way back. At least the only we are certain of were royal tombs (and yeah, the evidence for them being royal graves and not belonging to religious officials are pretty overwhelming).

So why were people sacrificed and buried in lieu of the actual kings, etc...? Did I understand that correctly...? This is a 'new' thing...? Is it seen in other cultures...?
@WorldofAntiquity
@WorldofAntiquity 5 месяцев назад
Assyrians did this. They left us some records talking about it. Whenever there was a bad omen about the health or life of the king, they would replace him with a substitute, kill the substitute, and cancel out the bad prophecy.

@@WorldofAntiquity hmmm... Did it work...? According to them of course... ALSO-- major kudos to you for your channel... I like the informal, conversational flow of your narrative, but you don't sacrifice cogency and scholarship... I HATE when channels have a jokey, flippant tone; they're NEVER funny or outrageous and I just click away...

It’s so crazy to think how much bigger the Persian gulf used to be. How those were basically coastal towns. Really changes the way I’ve envisioned the history of the area. More maritime history in the area than I thought. Have you ever heard the theory that at one point there was no Persian gulf but rather a freshwater lake that was inundated when sea levels rose? If that’s true, do you think that makes it a candidate for the origins of the flood stories?

Not the Gulf being bigger = the river deltas have shifted. You see the same coincidentally with other major rivers such that over the centuries as silt was deposited once areas near the coastline find themselves more inland today.

Always a good video. Sir, Recently my YT AlGore has been sending me vids from "Expedition Bible" - I grew up in a Pentecostal cult, so... I dunno... I have mixed feelings about the Expedition Bible videos. I would appreciate your commentary regarding their videos. Thank you, ~Wallaroo

Been a massive fan/viewer of this channel(legit haven't missed a single episode) since a few months back, when my friend decided to use MY gd account to comment, bitching about your why files video (making me look like a complete idiot) to which you responded, basically saying such. He may have made me look like a complete and utter ignorant a hole, but I never would have discovered this channel if it wasn't for that. Worth it. Seriously though, this channel is freaking awesome.
