Id recommend installing a bypass as well. That way in case the filter has a leak. You can turn the water off to the filter with the valves he recommended and keep water flowing to the house.

At 06:55 you don't really need to open the vent on top to reliefe pressure. You can just close the incoming valve first and isolate the filter from the main water line. Then you can just go and open a fawcet and let it open until there's no more water cominng out. Then close the fawcet, close the outgoing valve on the filter and job done. No more risk of water splattering everywhere until all the pressure inside the filter discharges.

Sediment filters and UV filters are what you'll need. A carbon filter will be useless on a system without chlorine, however it will take out any tastes or odours of iron or methane within the water, dependant on your water source
@kenbrown2808

definitely get the water tested, and once you know it is safe, taste it. that will let you know immediately whether you need strong filtration or just something to catch sediment. I've got excellent water, but I pulled a trick even Roger may not have seen. when I rebuilt my filter system, I made a double filter set. each filter has an inlet shutoff, an outlet shutoff, and a drain ahead of the filter. that way, I can isolate each filter, change them out without a complete water shutoff, or backflush the filters (only once before a cartridge replacement) I get two years out of a set of filters.

Is it a natural well, and how long was the farm working or is it still being worked around you,, if so pest control and fertiliser could contaminate but usually people were clever back then,, I'd get a pH tester and a survival water filter and test it before and after if both test equal then it's up to you but I'd definitely go with the uv light as was already commented on 👍

When it comes time to replace the filter(s). Have at least two buckets ready. One empty and one with warm water with a rag. Use the empty bucket for the filter(s) so you won’t get the floor wet. And use the one with the warm water and rag to clean out the filter’s housing. Whenever I changed mine, there was always this slim build up on the inside. Maintenance will keep it in good condition for years.

I put three Culligan WH-HD200-C whole home filters. I had the house built and had the 1" Uponor line come into the garage direct from street and go through my filters and back out to branch everywhere. So all water for my outside faucets and inside faucets is all filtered. Stage one is a 15 micron generic filter, 2 is a 10 micron filter, 3 is a 5 micron carbon filter. So all crap is caught. And replace three filters every 3 months. The slime and crud and chunks of shyt it catches is nasty. Best investment ever. Clean housings let me see in real time the buildup of nastyness.

In Utah this would have to be changed out frequently. Best way would be a water softener or dual media softener which will soften the water and help with the chlorine, tastes, odors, and helps extend the life of the resin beads. For my customers here in Utah we do use filters like this if they don’t like soft water. But the best way is a soft water system! Great stuff man! Love watching your content!

People on here are really stupid talking about slimy water. The water isn't slimy. That slimy feeling is from the natural oils in your skin. It's the minerals in the water that dry out your skin, a softener removes those minerals. That slimy feeling is actually good for you and means you can use less lotion

@ThunderBirds255
@ThunderBirds255 3 года назад
I feel like on city water applications to go with a 1.5 cu. foot carbon filter, or an RC softener (resin-carbon) that would be extremely more efficient and practical than this filter. If the chlorine is high for the city than the carbon is going to deplete more quickly in a normal household (2-5 people). If that filter uses resin to collect hardness is is not going to be properly cleaned. generic softeners use sodium to strip the resin of the hardness (ion exchange). This filter would most likely be changed every 3 months to keep the performance that it was once installed, therefore more costly. I'm not sure how much the filters are or how much chlorine is used in municipal water in TX, but in MD, chlorine is high and hardness is also very high. That's why we use these more efficient and effective units instead
@ThunderBirds255
@ThunderBirds255 3 года назад
EDIT Sorry for being a noob and not watching the whole video. I see its meant for cheap affordable ways to reduce chlorine and minerals. BUT. they are still present, therefore still affecting appliances and water heaters...etc. Making the investment could save you hundreds of dollars on prolonging the life or your water heater, dishwasher, or any other appliances. Mineral-free water will also make your skin moisturized, hair feel softer, and help with buildup of white mineral stains on fixtures, when you're washing cars, dishes, etc.

Pressure in water stays the same. Usually the gallons per minute is slowed down. For instance we have a huge condo that we plumb in and they have oversized condos. The water main is 1” copper. Most 1” filters have a GPM of 10-18 while a pipe wide open is capable of running 30-35 GPM with nothing attached to it. We just installed an Aqua Ox XL system it’s rated for 30+ GPM. Most fixtures don’t consume enough to make a huge difference but this homeowner had a shower than run like 14-16 GPM (a lot of body sprays and rain head etc). Hope this was helpful.

If you want to remove limescale from the water, these are NOT the way to do it. "Maintenance free, salt free" just no. Carbon will degrade over time. You need to replace these and they're gonna be expensive. Save your money and put it towards a softener. "Slimy water" is down to literally just using too much soap or detergent when washing.
@Salidin111
@Salidin111 3 года назад
Also to note, if you use a full system water purification on it without a water test you may be making the water less desirable. A lot of debate and a lot of specifics in regard of health benefits. Having minerals such as Iron, Calcium, etc to a certain level has evidence of being beneficial where as "pure" water gained from using a full RO process can be counter-productive of course you could add a mineralizer after the RO to add the good minerals back into the system but ideally you would want to test your water first see if its better then what you would be getting.
@samspry9452
@samspry9452 3 года назад
@@Salidin111 I personally don't like the taste of pure water, but I do drink soft water, through a water softener. But most mineral gain is through food consumption, not water consumption. Eat a variety of food and you don't need to worry about what water you drink. But you wouldn't use a full system RO, atleast not in the UK with copper systems. pure water is extremely corrosive to metals and low density plastics
@Salidin111
@Salidin111 3 года назад

@mikesmith1046 3 года назад
@@samspry9452 pure water is not corrosive to metal. If you have old copper pipes and install a softener, leaks are going to happen because the "pure water" is cleaning the mineral deposits from the pipes when those deposits where acting as a band aid plugging the holes preventing leaks
@alexanderkupke920
@alexanderkupke920 3 года назад
@@Salidin111 mentioning specifically US water is a good point, as the water supply systems and the water quality may vary to a large degree. Not even around the world, but also within countries, even within cities. I live in Germany where tap water is likely the most controlled food item quality wise. Any tap water around here usually has better lab results on water quality than even the best bottled waters. Also the allowed amounts of chlorine are limited. I think most water supply companies here (which usually belong to the municipality) have switched over to origen or ozone instead of chlorine, as no one here likes the faintest smell of chlorine. Also easier for them as ozone for example can be produced on site and has not to be added like chlorine. Taste differences and different hardnesses are mainly if it is from deep wells, not so deep wells near a river or some reservoir. The last usually is the softest as all the minerals tend to settle down as sediment in the reservoir. So water softeners are available but not very common as the water most times is not that hard (except every dishwasher you buy here has one built in to prevent hazing from minerals) With hard water we have to decals faucets once, maybe twice a year. Things we decals most are usually coffee makers and electric kettles. Where I live we are lucky, the water is so soft, I have only the tiniest traces of buildup after actually over ten years without dealing.

I love the idea of a whole house filter, but in Texas, as you know, we mostly have slab on grade so one cannot mount this on a wall to catch the water before it enters the house. Water comes from city through the meter into house under the slab, so a whole house filter is a challenge. Can this be mounted inside a box in the ground after the meter ?

As a plumber and a person that is on a well I have to agree about slimey water, however that condition is caused by your water softener over softening your water. That can be corrected by adjusting you equipment to the proper level of hardness that your well water is.
@mikesmith1046
@mikesmith1046 3 года назад
There's no such thing as over softened water. To get less softened water just means you're filtering out less minerals. That slimy feeling isn't from the water, it's from the natural oils in your skin.

@@mikesmith1046 not sure if I would agree with that. Back in school in the chemistry lab we had an actual water softener system, that was only used to make deionized water. Here in Fernley Nevada the water is about as hard as it can get. There's also lead and arsenic in our water. I've been strongly considering a reverse osmosis system for the whole house. I've heard that it's not good for copper plumbing. What are your thoughts?

What's your opinion on the Nuevo "H2 Oh" system? Citric acid descaler I suppose it doesn't filter also in same stage my theory is having readily available cheap replacement water filters seen some that are cross compatible across many different brands from the hardware store ... My grandmothers has well water so she's replacing it every one to three months for taste because lake nearby the ground water

Wash out the filter housing when changing the filters, dont mount it so high you can look into the filter housing and replace filter sooner than the maximum lifespan of 1 year. Also upsize the filter housing by 1 size to help with pressure drop in the home.

Pick up the most recent codebook and get familiar with the codes on what you want to focus on, commercial or residential. Get copies of local codes. Knowing the codes will give you a big advantage in stepping into the field. This advice also goes for potential electricians and HVAC techs.

It seems to me like it would be most efficient to put the valves with the joints on the pipes (measured and cut) and then just stick the joints in the unit and lock.

I do service on whole home water filters and some plumbing work. Sometimes we back feed off a water heater and change the direction the water is flowing. Or can you help me better understand this. Also our whole home treatment line is not easy to install but is very seamless. Maintenance is just salt and changing our a chemical carbon filter every 3-5 years.

It depends on the water. If you have a lot of iron and sulfur smell you’ll need a softener with a carbon filter and chlorine injector. But if you don’t have the bacteria’s a softener and sand filter works

Worst thing was the soap scum the old shower door used to build up.

I have a serious question and I will take answers from anyone. If I dont use a faucet from either inside or outside for more than a week or so the water comes out brown. I have to run it for a minute or less till it goes clear. Any reason why?
@alexanderkupke920
@alexanderkupke920 3 года назад
That very much depends on your plumbing and your water source. If it is really old plumbing, it may be rust from the lines or the faucet. Even if it not pure Iron there may be iron in an alloy used. More likely, you have a lot of iron in your water and it simply starts rusting in the stagnant water in the line drop to your faucet. Are you on a well or can you get some data on what is in your water? Oh, and as you mentioned it being brown, rust from iron is most likely, but it can actually be any kind of oxidation and / or sediment

I don’t 100% recommend the screw on filter for the water heater as it’s a relatively new product from my understanding. Also sounds like your due for a repipe under the house.
