Graeme O'Neil takes a look at Billy Crystal receiving the Kennedy Center Honors, and his reaction to the celebrities who participated in the ceremony including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meg Ryan, and Whoopi Goldberg,
It’s 2024, I think we are all still grieving over the loss of Robin Williams. If only he knew just how much he was deeply loved by all. It’s breaks my heart that he saved so many people with laughs, but was struggling with his own darkness and I feel so guilty we didn’t save him when he needed saving the most.
It's true. For multiple generations, when he died, it was like losing a beloved brother or uncle, in the most crushing way. One consolation for me was reading about and his condition and realizing he did not pass the way he did out of feeling lonely or unloved....his brain and body were wracked with a very, very severe physical illness which, at that point, preventing him from thinking clearly for more than very short periods of time.
What a heartfelt tribute to Billy from Whoopi. I so, miss Robin, too. The 3 of them were an amazing trio of human beings/ performers. God Bless all of them.
@@tattoodude8946 *there are TWO things i´m not very good at ... i Almost NEVER understand a joke (or.jokes) and i´m not very good at (playing) games ... but i rEAlly dO believe that Whoopi loved Robin ..she also rEAlly loved Patrick.Swayze < Ricky*
Yeah, I still remember when Billy Crystal was on the view shortly after Robin's death, and they had such a hard time talking about him without breaking down, I just wanted to reach into the t.v. and be able to give them a hug. 🤗😔❤
Billy has gone on record saying that they'd talk to each other all the time and they talk to each other everyday before they each went to bed if my memory is right. so i think it was harder for Billy when he passed than it was for Whoopi but maybe i'm wrong? i dunno how close those two were to be fair. i just know that from what Billy said about Robin after his death they were pretty much like Brothers in a sense.
@@rolandofgilead43 Yes, you're probably right, but on the view, they talked a lot about how the 3 of them did things together all the time, but I don't imagine it's always all three? They did comedy acts together.
@@rolandofgilead43 Yeah, when you look up this video in the search, it brings up other videos, like the one I mentioned on the view with just Whoopi and Billy.
How could she have not talked about Robin?! His absence was the elephant not in the room. His absence left a glaring hole in the proceedings. From the moment she stepped onto the stage I kept thinking "she better pay tribute to Robin, too". Robin, a great humanitarian is one of the top 3 comedians of all time.
I cried with Whoopie. Robin Williams was one of those special people who always made you feel good by giving you a smile and a laugh. Robin will always be missed
Of all the celebrity passings in my lifetime, whether they were older and at peace and ready to go, or young and gone too soon, no one's death has stuck with me the way Robin's has. To this day I still from time to time am reminded of him, and still feel the grief like it was yesterday. For context, Im in my 30's. Disney's Aladdin was my first movie cinema film, Hook to this day is still my favourite film of all time, and I constantly quote the Birdcage just because. I'm not famous person but if my life were made a lifetime movie, he would've played my Dad. Looks and personality. I speak for a lot us when I say, "I still miss Robin Williams."
To this day, I still shed a tear when something reminds me of him. He was so ever present when I was growing up, for context I'm 40, and it's like he became member of the family. I I think of all the things I quote, and I quote A LOT of things, I quote him the most, whether it's something from Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, or even one of his stand ups, he is still present in my world to this day. I cried when I went to Disney during the fireworks because they projected Genie on the castle and while playing music from Aladdin, he's just ingrained in our lives. He is very missed by everyone who fell in love with him, because we did, from Mork and Mindy to Night at the Museum. I hope he rests peacefully and that he found his Neverland.
For me, it's Robin Williams and also Jim Henson. Unexpectedly hearing Kermit sing It's Not Easy Being Green or Rainbow Connection makes me cry nearly every single time. I have to prepare myself to watch Robin's movies or clips of Henson with Kermit.
Thank you for your words. they are powerful. I loved Robin in his serious roles Patch Adams; Good Will Hunting. All of them. He had a deep soul, which he shared with us.
I couldn't deal with it for a long when Robin passed away. I couldn't discuss it, read about it, talk about it. So on and so on. I'm from the same area as him and knew him as an acquaintance before he became famous. He was a force even then. No one deserved fame amd the world's love more ❤
I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard as I have when watching Billy, Whoopie, and Robin working off of each other on stage. Their connection was perfection. I know Billy & Robin were very, very close, and I know Robin was indeed there in their hearts that night.
Now, more than ever, the humor and “comic relief” that our world needs is necessary. Robin is sorely missed, but thank goodness that we still have Billy and Whoopi, - and many other great comics to get us through these difficult times.
Whoopi does not get emotional like this. Talking about Robin or Patrick Swayze and she will get emotional because of how much they did for her career. Swayze threatened to walk off Ghost if they did not cast her
I can only imagine what they feel. For me, I know the world dimmed when Robin left us. Pain may have informed and inspired his comedy, but his comedy bright substantial light into the lives of those of us with mundane lives. I choke up thinking about people like Robin.
Billy is an international treasure. His humour has reached around the globe. Robin and Whoopi are equally his comedic peers who I’ve grown up with. Thank you to all three for your self-deprecating humour. 🐑🐑🇳🇿🇳🇿NZ
I’m Australian but have always associated the three together. Maybe it was the time, maybe it was the humour, maybe it was the people themselves. I have been lucky to have seen each of them on stage. Two in San Francisco and one in Melbourne Australia. So grateful to have seen them and been allowed into their world. What a privilege❤❤❤
I think its just a part of all the little groups of friends or 'cliques' in hollywood. Certain actors hang out/work/ love others. Will Ferrel's group (think Zoolander, Anchorman and Old School cast, for example), or Anything Adam Sandler does, he just wanted to make funny movies with his friends. I like to think Billy, Robin and Whoopi were some of the OGs :)
@@KPS2311that I also agree.. It's magical when comedians join forces. Like the former Kings of Comedy. Now imagine? Dave Chappelle Kevin Hart and Chris Rock? That would be something to behold on one stage. 😮😮
Robin Williams used to go into comedy clubs half-disguised (baseball hat, full beard, dressed down), wait patiently after the show, and tell junior comics "You have something, you're really funny, keep going with it." A few have mentioned the confidence boost from Robin changed their life.
I was in my 49s when Robin passed away. For me, like other Gen X kids, there had always been a Robin Williams as long as we could remember. Losing him was like losing a favorite uncle or family friend. It hurt deeply.
robin was a hometown hero of sorts for me. he lived 20 minutes away my whole life so there was an immense pride and love we carried for him. im 51 and to this day, hearing his name makes me cry.
The love between Robin, Billy and Whoopi is timeless. They share such a beautiful special bond together....one that not many of us can say we share with others. Even with Robin gone, you can still feel the extreme love, respect and bond they all have for each other. They all worked well together and complimented each others talents immensely. There will never be another comedic 3 like they were. The love they shared for each other spilled over into the love they had for their charities and community work and every thing they stood for. An amazing Kinship that only a few can feel!!! REST IN PEACE ROBIN. YOU ARE GREATLY MISSED NOT ONLY BY WHOOPI AND BILLY BUT THE WORLD MOURNS YOUR PASSING AS WELL. WE LOST THE BEST WHEN WE LOST YOU. GOD BLESS YOU MAN!!!
Omg!! This had me in tears 😢. I remember how all 3 of them were together at awards shows, & when I heard that Robin Williams had died, I felt like a family had died. Thank you for posting this!! N Congratulations to Billy Crystal, you are absolutely a true legend!!
I was just saying to my husband last night how much I missed seeing Robin Williams. He meant a lot to me as a very young child. How I cried like a child when he passed, and my husband did too. He was Mork from Ork for us. Then I was old enough to see his movies, all of them. He meant so much to the world.
These three super entertainers brought joy and smiles to so many people, and I am sure that their comedy helped many people dig themselves out of depression. It’s a shame that there was no one person who could help Robin climb out of the debilitating, unyielding hole of depression. The “depressive hole can certainly overwhelm even a strong person!
I also am one who misses Robin. I didn't know how much until watching this. I reacted the same as Billy did, and I am just a part of the audience. I'm also of the same age as they are, and understand (a bit) the pressures of life during those times. Add to it the pressures of fame and fortune. Rest in Peace, Robin. Congrats, Billy. Thank you, Whoopie, thank you, thank you.
People forget that Billy played one of the first openly gay characters on TV on Soap. He was always out on the edge, but not like a razor, but like the foam at the front of a wave.
Talk about friendship I love that they’re so close Billy Robin and Whoopi love them all very much rest in peace Robin you are missed and loved by the whole world
It's nice to see Whoopi back to being a pleasant human being again. This is the kind of emotional bonding that we need to get back to. It's a wonderful look on anyone.
Robin was so beloved....I live just a stone's throw from the Robin Williams Tunnel, near his home. He brought joy and laughter absolutely everywhere he went. I even was given a scholarship he funded , in college....his generosity of spirit will never be forgotten. We all choke up when we speak of him, because I think in a. sense we all thought of him as a friend.
Billy Crystal is one of those genius, live-wire minds that can host a show and improvise. Always loved him. I don't think I'll almost come to tears when he dies like do with Robin. Robin's energy and genius can't be replaced, ever.
I just lost a close friend, like a brother to me. I chose to appreciate the time we had together versus the time we lost. I am blessed to have him in my life, rather than regret the missed opportunities. Godspeed Robin and my friend.
A bazillion kudos and attaboys to the one and only Billy Crystal. Phenomenal talent, a gigantic heart and a human being beyond compare. Brother man deserves every good thing comin to him. The rest of us miss Robin too, bro. Take care and bless you and yours.
Sir, you are spot on in everything you said here. Robin tugs at the public's heartstrings, so I can only imagine how he affects his close friends Billy and Whoopi.
I still get choked up watching the video I made of the late Robin Williams. I miss him. I can't even watch him on Mork & Mindy. But I try to watch movies he is in and stuff. But I love Whoopi and Billy and Robin. I loved Comic Relief on HBO.
I literally say Billy is a National Treasure anytime somebody brings him up. He's one of my favorites of all time. And I feel exactly the same way about Whoopi! ❤❤❤
Sooo many of you have been a important part of are lives from humble beings like "Soap" Mork and Mindy and many more. You made us love you, how could we not. Love and Nanu Nanu.
