In 2001 you get 325 horsepower, 350 ft-lb torque from the 346 ci LS-1 V8 fitted with the Corvette Z06 LS-6 intake and clutch plus a 6 speed Tremec T56 transmission, formerly made by Borg-Warner.
When introduced for the 1993 model year, the 4th Generation F-body had a 350 ci LT-1 motor. The 1st F-body was the 1967 Camaro featuring a 108 inch wheelbase. The 1993+ models had a 101.1 inch wheelbase. Camaros built before 1993 were built in Van Nuys, California. 1993-2002 versions were built in St. Therese Quebec, Canada.

I personally own a 99 Z28 convertible one of these. Hugger Orange with Bright White convertible top, Bright White leather seats, and factory installed body kit. Bought it about 5 years ago for about $11k with 38,000 original miles. Has about 57,000 miles on it now. Such a fun car to drive, and a real attention grabber! I cannot take it out without someone commenting on how beautiful it is!

GM underrated these numbers because the engine was shared with the Corvette. They put out around 350hp to the crank with SLP package.

the early LS1 cars had different intakes, different pcms, and different fuel pumps. The 2001 and especially 2002 SS cars had more like 310-320hp at the wheels not at the crank. As well as I've owned MANY Camaro's with and without T-tops.. I can tell you my 2002 Camaro has zero leaks.... By the 2002 model year they figured it out pretty well, compared to say a IROC-Z where it literally does rain inside while going down the road lol.

Not an ss ..... no third break light, not ram air, and cloth...... that's a z28 conversion just a good and a spoiler up grade.... location of intake when he opens the hood

It is missing the slp build sticker on the driver door. Other than that it looks like a SS. Third brake light is there, just doesnt look like it works.

Ya but the only problem with owning an slp are that the parts are stupid expensive one tie rod end was $130 but it's still a fun car to drive occasionally

chevy just killed it in the past, I mean they still make a mean car and likely a better handling car...but it seems like Ford has been trying to one up chevy for so long and just couldn't even come close when it comes to engines. That being said the flat plane crank version the've got in the boss 302 just takes the win for modern V8's and likely can't really be improved upon any further. I think they finally accomplished something special with being the premier pony car available. I still prefer the LS or even LT motors by a big margin...

Own a 95Z flame red and love it. Personally I like the 93-97 its gust the head lights that I don't like.. But either way bad ass car..

Just to clarify, it does not have the ugly (to me) paint and stripe combo. It is sunset orange of which there were only 1800 made. Blew up the original rear and replaced it with a moser 12bolt. The clutch went so replaced it with an ACT unit. As far it goes the engine is stock but has SLP long tube headers and sub frame connectors. Other chassis mods are edlebrock trailing arms, panhard bar and torque arm. Still running the stock 10 spoke wheels with goodyear rubber with slotted and drilled power stop brakes. Has the leather interior with embriodered 35th anniversary seats. Replaced the hurst shift unit with a better B&M unit. 72,300 mi on the clock, some minor door paint damage, I bought the car brand new in 2001. Had it dyno tuned and puts out 335 rwhp. Best ET 12.8.

@@everycarSeattle Thank you for the kind words. Though I have no intention of parting with this car that my wife often calls my 2nd wife, I have often wondered what the value was. I very rarely ever see one on the road and I get lots of positive comments when I take her out. Its like people have never seen the 4th gen SS.

ALL 4th gen F-bodies were built as removable roof (either t-top or vert) cars. The hardtop ones were actually built as t-top cars then had the side bars welded (instead of removable) before the headliner and roof came one. If you can see one without the roof, it is very obvious.

One problem with the 2000 thur 2002 is the sail panel’s. GM cut corners and didn’t prime underneath of the panel. So that’s why the glue blisters through the paint ! I love these ls models, but this cosmetic problem makes me walk away. To costly and hard to repair!

I never understood why companies could rarely make a decent manual shift. Honda nailed it in the 70's and things somehow went downhill from there....except the S2000 which has the best shift action ever. Chevy on the other hand could never get it quite right, even on Corvettes.

'02 Anniversary Trans Am;s are hot, hot, hot and getting hotter by the hour. Both cars are ultimately the same car in many ways and both are collectible. I'd personally rather own the Camaro but in the end the TA might be worth more money.

@@everycarSeattle They made less of the Firebirds/Trans am than camaros so they're going to be worth more and with pontiac gone theyre really going up in value because you cant go into a pontiac dealer and buy a new Firebird like you can with a Camaro

Having had this exact year SS I can tell you that the gas mileage he quoted is right on par. Less if you are racing around, more if you are just cruising on the freeway. I hit almost 32 mpg on a 600 mile road trip I took when I first got it. 😂

Auto is not a downside, check out how much a converter changes these cars. Go with a billet one minimum 3000 stall to 4000. Just a converter alone and a stick car won't be able to compete.

i bought my bone stock 02 z28 with 30k miles and have dailyed it for the past few years even through snow and salt and now have over 100k on it. i wouldnt say it rusts more than any other car of the early 2000s. but ttops leak on pretty much all of them since the weather stripping is more than 15 years old. another downside is the lifter tick that is inevitable with nearly all ls engines. otherwise great car, interior not the best for lasting as everything in there is plastic and cracks easily. the 02 camaros are just as sought after as the 01 but anyways, with a few mods these cars will compete with modern day muscle as ive already mildly built mine and beat new camaro ss's.

sscam2001 Idk. I dont like leather seats, theyre either cold or super hot, and they rip pretty easily if you dont take the time to moisturize it, plus most chevrolet leather back then was very cgeap chinese leather. But to each there own

The 01 sucks the 02 ducks even more. Annnnnnnnnnnn! Wrong the difference between the z28 & ss is paying more for the SS BADGING. Both the Z28 AND SS ARE THE SAME. The slp options that can be in either one smh. Where do these people get there info from. I have owned 3. 2000, 2001 & 2002
