I talk for 12 hours on why it is important to look both ways before you cross the street, oh, and why I have to build a splitter. Created by InShot:inshotapp.page...
Hi Pete! I am glad you are enjoying the videos. The splitter is getting close to being done. I will be doing a video on it as soon as it is finished. I really appreciate you watching! WST
Hi Tom! Thank you for finding the channel and I appreciate the nice comment. I have been on the sidelines the last month due to my real job and a nice long family vacation. I will be back at it soon. Hope to see you in the comments again. Take care. WST
Interesting. I have been using a homebuilt early 80s machine since I built it in the early 80s. It was pulled around with a Honda 200m ATC. It definately shares DNA with yours. Over the years, I have found that simple is best. Mine has had several pump/engine combos over the years. It started out fancy, a junked Cub Cadet provided a Kohler, starter/generator, a bunch of wire, switches and a gauge. All of that is long gone. It currently sports a 12 horse Kohler flathead with points and a "wrap a rope" starter. Once a year I clean the points. Fuel is gravity fed. Gravity never breaks. As far as lifts and tables and wings go, I stack up splits around the machine, usually a ramp on one side and a heap on the other. Roll the big rounds up the ramp, let the heap catch the half that falls. Just an old guy's two cents worth. Best wishes.
Hi Paul! I built my splitter to handle the big boys. I used a ramp like you, but I wanted a challenge and more power. I get a lot of free wood that is everything no one wants to handle. 24” -32” diameter is very common lately. The log lift has been a god send. IT’s still a workout, but not nearly like it used to be. Thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like you have a good setup that works for you. Take care
@@WSTMike I get free dump truck loads from tree companies. Got a maple log once that laying sideways was as tall as me. 24-32" I can still handle as can my machine. The 60"+ maple kicked our asses. These days, the Emerald Ash Borer is my best friend.
1st🤣🐿 “Book on tape” continue the build for sure Mike!! It will mean more to build your own especially since the heart of that splitter has been in the family for years. In my opinion a custom build splitter with your own hands that has family memories tied to it is worth more than anything you can buy!!!👍🏻👍🏻🐿
Todd, can I just tag along on your comment? I mean, you pretty much said everything I had intended to type... Aside from “1st🤣🐿”, that thought never even crossed my mind! So, if you’re okay with this I’ll just say DITTO. If not, let me know and I’ll delete this and attempt to plagiarize from someone else’s remarks. Thanks in advance, well that is if you allow me!🤔 Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
@@sawsurgeon 🤣🤣Great minds think alike Tedd!🤷♂️ I never put 1st but the🐿 did the other day on someone’s vid so I thought I would throw that in there for fun😁
Wow! That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said in this channel. It was said so well, that Tedd is riding on your handlebars. I agree with you and I appreciate the vote of confidence. I hope you enjoy the build. Thanks for the support brother! WST
Tedd!! Hey buddy, um……. We generally don’t allow people to ride on handlebars. It’s a safety concern. That being said, I think we can let this one slip. You are always more than welcome to type Second. Up to you. I appreciate the support on this and hope I see you a TOA rolling around on your bmx bike the next video. Take care! WST
@@WSTMike 🤣🤣Bud, you had me laughing even before I researched what “TOA” meant🤣 I love the Work-n-Chat format. You did exceedingly well👍🏼 I just wish I could do it... Mine always ends up being a Pace-n-Chat because I can’t seem to think, talk and accomplish diddly squat whilst I’m rambling! That splitter was Way Cool from its inception, you’re only going to improve upon what your ancestors created. Such a cool opportunity😎 Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
Mike great video! I like that you are redoing that splitter. You are very handy and can do things like that. It also has sentimental value. I keep things like that and fix things up rather than getting something new. Im in the process of doing that with an older farm grain dump truck from our family farm. I know there is newer out there, but the sentimental value means alot so i am fixing up the old square 1 ton. I will be watching the other videos soon!
Hi Craig! I really appreciate the nice comment. It has been a labor of love I suppose. I like doing this kind of stuff, just wish I had all the tools to make it perfect. I hear you with your grain dump. You have to keep that stuff in the family. Besides, the old stuff in a lot of ways is better than the new stuff. With everyone chasing margins and trying to stay in business, what we buy today can (not always) be short on quality. Thanks for watching my friend! WST
@@WSTMike, i agree with you! I wish i had more tolls as well and knowledge. Dad says i know enough to be dangerous lol. My other dump truck i sold was 4 x 4 and had A/C. But it wasnt sentimental as the 1981 square body, but the good thing is i will have less electronics and more power and towing capacity. So it was a win win.
I want to build my own splitter as well. I may never do it but I want to build 1. Proving to myself that I can do it is part of why I want to do it. You've got a lot further than me.
Hi Alan! This is my third and I keep getting closer. The biggest thing for me is not being cheap and to just do it right the first time. I still fail there at times. I hope this build gives you some inspiration. I think you have the ability. Thanks for watching. WST
HOLY COW!!! WHAT? AM I DREAMING? Gray, it is good to hear from you. A lot of us have been wondering. Sure is great to hear from you. Hope all is well. I appreciate the comment. You sure made my day. I hope the splitter is going to be as awesome as you say. Please stay in touch! Really great to hear from you. WST
Your therapist is a smart person. It's awesome that you are giving that splitter new life. Keeping a family heirloom would be important to me as well. Can't wait to see it in action.
Hi Richard! My therapist is awesome and overpaid. Keeping the splitter in the family sure does mean a lot to me and members of the family. Thanks for watching and the vote of confidence! WST
We have a splitter in the family my DAD made back in the late 70's. My uncle has it now, someday it will be mine I'm sure. I remember my dad letting me use the cutting torch for the first time when he was building it. Thanks for bringing up all the great memories. Have a great week
Hey Heinzie! That is a cool story. It is awesome that you have a lot of the memories I do. Looking forward to making the family heirloom just a little more modern. Thanks for watching as always, brother! WST
hi there thought i would stop by and glad i did . i am also working on a wood splitter up grade . built my first one around 1972 and a few more after that . working on the power train and found a small cat diesel . if there is anything i can help with drop a line , john
Glad you want to see the project through. My first splitter was my dad's hand-me-down built late 70's. It was old, slow, leaky, and underpowered. I used that splitter for almost 20 years, and I handed it down to a nephew. Sentimental for sure.
Hello Bill! I appreciate the vote of confidence. You pretty much described the splitter I first inherited. Still, the years of memories are just too hard to throw away. It had to have new life breathed into it. Glad your nephew has something and I hope he can do the same some day. Thanks for watching as always! WST
Great update Mike! I love family and history, so keeping and improving your splitter will not only do the job, but it will continue your family legacy. Good on you!! Best, Ed
Hi Ed! Hope all went well in the warm weather! That is the plan. Continue the legacy of this splitter. I hope that some same Alex or Trey will use it. By then they will have to upgrade it to electric!!! Who knows? Thanks for watching and for the awesome comment!
OWTG! DON! THE MAN! MR. MISSOURI! Did I miss anything? Thanks for backing me up brother. I am going to see it through and do what I said. Appreciate the watch! WST
Hey Cherry 🍒 Man!! Always great to see you. Glad you enjoyed the book on tape. Next video on Wednesday won't be so therapeutic. Thanks for the support, brother! WST
Well even tho we may not listen to you we still hear you! Of course we'd like to watch your build. It might just give some of us ideas or reasons not to.
Hello Carolina Firewood! Thank you for stopping by and great to meet you! I am learning how to be more handy and to push my limits. We all have it, it just needs to be exercised. I love the splitter and it means a lot that it was my grandfathers. Stay tuned my friend, you will see more. Thanks for giving WST a shot!
Hi Mike! Hope all is well on the home front. It always amazes me what you all hear. It shows me that you really are listening. Thanks for the vote of confidence! Take care and thanks for watching! WST
Nice talk Mike. When you upgrade that splitter I’d spend the extra money and put some 50s and cragers on it. Think that would be awesome!😎 Take care! 🐿🐿📏
Hey FM! Yea, that's on the list... on the bottom of the list. It has freaking hubcaps on it now! This splitter is blinged compared to most. That being said..... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I would so put 50's and Cragers on it!!! I am thinking about fuzzy dice on the hydraulic valve handles... we'll see. Thanks for watching brother!
Splitty McPherson it is good to have you here once again. Your GPS is premium and your listening skills are on point. Thank you very much my friend. I appreciate, we’ll cya, WST is….. OUT!
Hello T Clodfelter! Nice to see you on WST! That was an existing building that I converted to what I think is a smarter wood shed. I'm glad you like it. Hope to see you in the comments in the future. Thank you for watching, WST!
I don't know WST, you might be able to charge a little more for that book on tape...Good luck on your build, I look forward to seeing the results OR what happens along the way. Be safe brother!
Hey TV! I guess I am making things extremely affordable or I have no clue with what the value really is…. we’ll go with that. I have already started the build vids. The first will be out on Wednesday morning. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it. WST
Hey Mike. I’m sitting here watching this as the bomb is going off outside. Actually, it’s just a snowstorm with some wind here. I guess Nor’easter wasn’t selling enough news so they needed a new term to hype it up. Anyway, I had a homemade splitter and debated upgrading it for a couple years. It split a lot of wood, but I wasn’t happy with the frame and I wanted (and my back needed) a lift. When I finally stopped debating last year, I bought a Wolfe Ridge and love it. I just didn’t have the time to tear mine apart and start over. However, I’m looking forward to watching you build yours. 👍🏼❄️🍅
Hello John! I was talking to you and a few others when I mentioned the BOMB to explain a snowstorm with wind. The media is awesome. Thanks you for the comment. The time part is totally understandable. You have a Wolfe Ridge and that is awesome. I am being very serious that i think they made a very nice splitter. I am glad you are looking forward to the build... I am too. Thanks for watching as always. I appreciate you brother! WST
I find that doing these kind of projects makes me learn new things. I am sure your therapist shares some knowledge that you will now share with others. I would love to see a video on the build and I promise not to offer opinion.
Hey Woody! Hope the red eye from the mile high was nice and dry....sorry, wanted to be a rapper. You nailed it, I like learning and the best way to learn is to do. I am looking forward to showing you some vids very soon. Take care my friend! WST
Greetings WST from cold S.E.Ohio!!! I think you ought to let everyone see your rebuild or your splitter. Turn your audio down so you wouldn't hear everyone telling you what to do!!!! Lol oh Mike I listen to you. Did you get your oil leak fixed on your tractor??? Have a wonderful rest of the day
Hey John! I hear you and I am going to give you what you asked for. I splitter build on WST. I am glad you could hear me and that i wasn't just talking to myself. It is a relief. I did get the tractor fixed...it was a diesel leak in the sediment bowl that ran down the frame and all the way to the front bearing on the PTO transfer case. It made it look like a hydraulic leak, but it wasn't. Took me 15 minutes and a wrench to fix it. Thanks for watching my friend! WST
Like that Can-do attitude Mike, see the project thru to the end, “ was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, Germans? , let him go he’s rolling”. It’s not over till you say it’s over. Take care
Hi Mike! I have been waiting a long time to get a comment from you. You are on every channel I watch and generally the first to comment. So, I would have to say you are a woodhound and you like this stuff. Let me say, welcome, I am glad you stopped by. I appreciate the comment and I promise to keep pushing forward. It ain't over until we have 100 full cord split and stacked....!!! Thanks for watching! WST
Mike, I’ve tried before, but I always seem to get the “ busy signal” I enjoy your humor and btw, tell your son right on 49ers fan! Been a season ticket guy for many years. Trying to figure out why you take such a beating from the others haha. The old saying” you only tease the ones you love”. Have a nice evening
@@mikehughes2026 A few others have told me that also. The busy signal is death to a creator. As for the beatings, I put myself out there, but I take it. Plus, I’m of the Husky minority. That never helped me. Trey said, 49ers all the way and he’s jealous of your tickets! (So am I)
What! I also am a Stihl man! Later loser, don’t let the door hit you in the “Keester” on the way out”. Haha just kidding buddy, but come on man, talk to your therapist you mentioned in today’s video. Wouldn’t you rather drive a Porsche than a “Valvo”( logger Wade). Have a nice weekend with the family
Hey Snypes! Thanks for hearing and thanks for the vote of confidence! I have no idea why I was crossing the road.... what's a road? LOL! Thanks for watching my friend! WST
Hi Mike, built my own splitter too, I call her Bertha, because it’s made with 6” cylinder off of a backhoe. What a machine and strong. I actually had to keep the size of the engine to 6.75 hp because the 8” I-beam was at its limit. I’m sure with enough steel i could have keep it together, but its as heavy as a tank now and good for anything I can throw at it. I like your wood cart you use in the video. How about you show that off as I’d like one like that over a wheel barrow. Take care
Hi Eric! Bertha sounds like a behemoth!!! I would love to see a pic of her. I like equipment and seeing what people have made. As for the cart, I did a video with the cart in it. Here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WMagIVwyS1Q.html Thanks for watching and commenting!!! WST
Hi Doug. It is nice to have. I was fortunate to have the materials to recycle and build it. Like everything in this world, I still wish I would have made it bigger! Thx for watching. WST
Hey Max! Turn up your volume and no, my therapist is not, Rod. If it were, I wouldn't need a therapist. $$$ in the bank and knowledge in the tank! Thanks for the watch, I appreciate it my friend! WST
Good morning Mike! I too wanted to build my own vertical splitter but my welding skills are not up to par. I ended up biting the bullet and placed a order with Eastonmade last week for the Axis. Keep up the great videos👍, just let me know when 50 shades of firewood comes out on tape....😁
Hi B&F! Glad you still have power with Scheib logging the roadside..... Well, an Axis is one heck of a unit! I am guessing you do a lot of bundle wood? Either way, very nice purchase. If I am the one to record 50 shades of firewood, you will be the first and only that one that will know! LOL! Thanks for watching. We sure do appreciate you. WST
Nothing wrong with keeping a tool going that is already in the family, especially if it has plenty of life left in it.. Before I paid for my Wolfe Ridge I thought about building one, I would probably be half the cost if I did (plus I dont know how to weld) but in my case it would be cheaper and less time in the long run to just purchased one and be done..
Hi Daniel! I agree with you on all fronts. I think what you are doing is right for you. Plus, you have had your heart set on a Wolfe Ridge for as long as I have known you. I appreciate the well thought out comment. Take care my friend! WST
Hey Cloud Lake Moon!! LOL!!! I love that people are replying to this video. No action and just talk. I won't make it a habit, but it was necessary for the content. Thanks for the comment and for watching! WST
Hey T! That is very funny. I may not answer them, but the fact they are in my head hinders the thought process. 10 people can tell you 10 different things. Who's right? Sometimes you have to go with your gut or just ask a few people to get a general coconscious. Thanks for commenting, again! Take care, WST!
Hi Jeremiah! Appreciate the comment and the acknowledgment. I was debating on what the price should be for something I don’t offer or people would even buy. $2.99 popped in my head. I’ll raise up fictitious pricing in future episodes. Thanks for watching! WST
Wait what! Say that again. I didn’t hear a thing just some squeaks and chirps like there was a 🐿 in my phone. Oh well I will hit the like button when I get my phone back from my coonhound. She heard a 🐿 and took my phone and ran lol.
THE STAN, is the coonhound back yet? I gave it 10 hours to return. What? No? Wait, I can't hear you.... what you saw is how my brain works. I say what comes out my mouth. Thanks for listening. By the way, what's the coonhounds name? Thanks for watching my friend! WST
@@WSTMike yell ginger, chirp like a chipmunk or chatter like a squirrel and she will wake up from her life long nap and bring whatever she was playing with as she fell asleep. This case it was my phone lol
Serious question. Splitter. All the fast splitters have one of their strokes way faster than the other. A few forward pushing but most go faster on the reverse. Are you going to gain your speed that way? Frikjeep s old splitter is faster stroke to stroke than most. Just wondering! Have a great night.
@@stannelson2582 John did reach out to me and offer help. Most are faster on the return cycle due to a dump valve. In my case, I will have a dump valve, but will still be slightly slower forward. I’ll eat my squirrel if I’m wrong. Great question. By the way, I have never camped in the finger lakes. When I said that, the intention was to zero in on your location. I may have been helping a friend send something to NY. Just sayin
Did I just spend 13 minutes listening to you talk yourself into building a wood splitter? Yea, I did. Hopefully we get to watch you build it so we can critique and give your therapist more business.
Hi Grandpa! Just the first sentence you wrote qualifies you for a trip to the therapist. I am shocked anyone would listen to this 13 minute therapy session. I even hesitated uploading it! My therapist is really good...you will enjoy him/her. Thanks for watching! WST
