Don't know how they thought they would sell an expensive car that you only part of (since you don't own the battery) and a crazy convoluted leasing system. How stupid could they be?
@kirkellis4329
@kirkellis4329 11 месяцев назад
They were hoping to get people to view cars like they do phones -- a phone is useless without a provider you pay every month for service. If you could get people to see cars that way -- useless without a monthly subscription -- then they could sell the cars at a lower initial price, taking an initial loss for the future revenue stream like phone carriers do.

The main issue lies with their pricing strategy. It's hard to see how they can compete with other car manufacturers at a price point of $50,000 USD. In that range, they would be up against tough competition from the likes of Tesla, Ioniq, BMW, and Mercedes. Being a newcomer in the car industry, they lack the established reputation of well-known brands. To persuade customers to choose their cars, the most effective approach would be to offer comparable specifications at a more affordable price. Hyundai and Kia, as Korean car brands, have successfully employed this strategy. By pricing their vehicles lower than Japanese and other competitors, they were able to secure a small market share and sustain their production. Over time, their brand reputation grew, leading to increased consumer trust and loyalty. Alternatively, if VinFast had a visionary founder like Elon Musk, who possesses exceptional business acumen and the ability to attract top talent, they could have a better chance at achieving success on a global scale.

The brands are not established in the USA/EU and they are trying to sell at or around the same price as Tesla which is never going to work. Even if their vehicles are better their pricing strategy wont persuade most people to purchase their vehicles. I'd take a Tesla Model 3 for $20K and a $100/mo battery subscription over paying $33K and no battery rental. I think the numbers just have to work out. Especially if that battery rental is essentially an unlimited warranty as long as you keep subscribing. What I saw of the Vinfast formulas didn't seem to make any sense, though. A rental scheme could work especially well if a vehicle isn't going to qualify for the tax credits -- getting the initial price as low as possible makes sense. It sounds strange because it is essentially leasing just a part of a vehicle and that hasn't been done before. How many people are renting their iPhone monthly instead of shelling out $1000 up front ?

Just because Sam doesn't get the idea doesn't mean that the Vinfast battery leasing arrangements are horribly complicated or unfair. Around the world there are many countries in which the payment for expensive items, housing stock in Northern Europe for instance, gets broken into two components - an up front payment and an ongoing rental payment. The former reduces the outright one off payment for the expensive item and allows people of modest means to acquire expensive goods. The latter finances the full cost of a purchase in a way that is delayed and extended over a longer period, similar in form to repayment of a small loan but at a modest fixed rate without ever having to go to the trouble of taking out a loan. We are yet to see what Vinfast's best price for one of its cars sin battery will be once it starts making them in the USA. Now, the battery lease arrangements in North America, after some to-ing and fro-ing, involve unlimited miles in all cases. The most expensive option is a lease charge of USD$219 per month (for the large VS 9 battery). Vinfast makes its case in this way: By separating the price of the battery from the acquisition value of the automobile, VinFast takes on all the risks related to the vehicle’s battery and ensures a reasonable price for its products, while providing customers with peace of mind about the battery’s quality during use. VinFast also commits to provide a lifetime battery warranty covering all maintenance and repair costs, and will replace the battery for free when charging capacity dips below 70%. The battery subscription policy is considered a key solution for customers to make a transition to electric vehicles easier, allowing VinFast to become ‘the car for everyone.’ That isn't so hard to understand. The continuation of relatively high monthly lease payments after 5/10 years, say, can't really be justified because by that point the car owner should also fully own the battery based on payments already made. A nominal annual fee to keep the lifetime battery warranty in effect might be justifiable, however.
