This narrative also applies to the black man in the United States and probably to all black men, living in predominantly white societies. It's done on purpose.

They need to change their culture. This has nothing to do with race, blacks who come from the Caribbean and Africa outperform UK blacks because their culture and attitudes are different. However black immigrants who grew up in the UK or those who had immigrant parents or grandparents and were born in the UK perform the same as multi generational UK blacks. The only explanation for this is culture. Nobody is denying racism but it isn't the only factor nor is it the major one, change your attitudes and change your communities.

The people in that group, specifically that lady with the cool hair cut are why i haven’t offed myself, i have hope that we can care about each other for the sake of kindness and nothing else.

As a black female who is disturbed by issues of racism and Black males being shot here in America. More services are needed here as well. We have a history of being experimented on in the mental health services. There are definitely social and economic issues involved. More Black mental health workers and access to the education needed to give Black people a hand up to become Psychologists etc.

If the top are making an effort to work with people who are being stigmatized, they both need to be willing to be part of the recovery plan. If the stigmatized individual is unconvinced enough, improvement will take a longer time to happen.

Our Black men need tools to work with more teachers in school tutoring some of them have learning disablities that were never address they put them in a special class give them their meds ad keep it moving i always felt like 2 teachers per a class room would help bring the children IQ up those trades they had in school help them , get jobs when they graduate they had thier certiicate and got a job.

That's rubbish, I'm black and I've worked in the mental health system, there isn't prejudice against black men, most men in the system are white males that also feel the same way. Just because there are black men in the london units, doesn't mean its the same everywhere else.

Your forced to be quite , many degrade you to silence. Really your mind is restless . Then asking is danger and being silent a wound of perpetual unresolved issues that have been given destructive actions .

Psychiatric disability is a brain disorder. There was a class about Ashkenazie Jewish schizophrenia. I felt horrible because I am half Ashkenazie Jew. I was in the long term hospital. Most of the patients were white and I was an adult. I hated the hospital and I don’t like my diagnosis. But if you’re American, you know what I am talking about. These accents don’t sound American. I would be angry if someone thought that I malingered mental illness because I am white. I have anger and depression every day. I am looking for anger management. I lost lots of sleep and I don’t feel like I will ever make up for the sleep deprivation. I don’t abuse drugs, but I was profiled and then diagnosed with schizophrenia. There are Americans who believe it’s illegal to be mentally ill and are highly fearful because of the media and fictional movies. I want badly to stop being angry. I blocked my sister. She’s toxic and expensive. We weren’t treated equally. I pound on clay. It’s a good way to deal with anger. I will call up the therapy group for people with bad anger problems. To say that schizophrenia or bipolar is only for black people isn’t fair. But I remember guys calling me ugly as a kid. And when I was an adult, I looked younger than I was. I feel stereotyped. This video is stereotypical. I try to take good care of myself. I got help as an adult. I also have poor vision which may have got me to feel depressed. I didn’t get glasses when I needed it. I didn’t go to the prom and I didn’t have a boyfriend. Boys called me ugly. I dreamt of being in bed with a female. I don’t understand myself. I think that I am an Ace. That my family may have thought that I was nuts cause I don’t like men.

I would like to see a further break down (no pun intended) of these figures, especially income/ wealth levels of those who suffer mental health issues, and treatment. I suspect this is less a colour/ race issue, and more a wealth issue, as wealth decreases, I would imagine the ratio of black to white men with psychological issues would begin to level. It can't just be about assimilation, as black people have been far more accepted than other ethnic minorities in the UK, yet other ethnic minorities have higher levels of income than blacks, whereas whites are more broadly positioned across the spectrum.
