Why Are Government Bank Employees Protesting Against Privatization of Banks?| Nirmala Sitharaman

"If You are facing issues with banking services, here's why it is happening. Over 10 Lakh bank employees across the country are protesting for two days- Monday and Tuesday. The United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions, has called for a two-day nationwide strike where they plan to oppose the privatisation two state-owned banks and retrograde banking reforms. Now if you remember, Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her budget speech had laid out govt's goal of achieving Rs 1.75 lakh crore disinvestment target. The government has already privatised IDBI Bank by selling its majority stake in the lender to LIC in 2019, and has merged 14 public sector banks in the last four years.
Since then, the govt is facing massive protest against the Privatization of Public Sector Banks. Due to Bank Union Strike on Day 1:
around 86 lakh cheques/ instruments worth Rs 6,500 crore were not cleared on Monday
About 2 crore cheques/ instruments worth about Rs 16,500 crore were not cleared across the country. services like deposits, cash withdrawal were hit.
While a protest on such a massive scale is happening across the country, you probably don't know about it because the issue is getting hardly any coverage in the Mainstream media. but we believe the issue is very important and thus, joining me today is CH Venkatchalam, general secretary of AIBEA.

Ten lakh bank employees r protesting against banks privatization . The growth or development of the country depends on how for that banks r reacheable to the common man . Today , that all important national assets r being sold out or privatized which is really alarming . Earlier governments r developed the country enormously . Mrs .Indira Gandhi nationalised eight banks in 1969 . Further six banks nationalized . Altogether fourteen private banks were nationalized . Nationalization of banks involves good of a common man whereas privatization of banks involves good for the corporate people . One day the so called corporates will become the defacto rulers of the country which is very dangerous . Any elected government should be all powerful .Request , better change the opinion pl . If govt want a sloution for the bank productivity let me tell one suggestion. Why this govt dont want aatmanirbhar in case of banks.Since their ruling came into effect onwards they are consistently beating banking system.why???. This shows their inability only, do not blame PSBs. The solution is loans and advances are the main sources of bank' s income.why are you the authorities not implementing a strict stringent rule and action over defaulters.??. Why are you people not taking any steps to strengthen rules for rejection of loans.??? Why Govt is not making a rule for punishing defaulters and isolating them from financial inclusion.Just take an action for defaulters by refusing all subsidies, electricity, telephone, telecommunication, all govt schemes.Support banks by simplifying the procedures for suit filing against defaulters.Support banks by making rule for getting collateral securities for all mudra, msme loans above one lakh.Support banks by making rule for rejecting loans to those who seems to be cheaters for banking system by simply taking loans and run away.Make rule that if any person in india who has taken loan and willingly not repaying and cheating bank will be arrested very soon after once suit filed.Likewise, banks should get support by rules.once it is implrmented it will be best for the society, good for growth, support for banks.moreover, private banks need not required.All banking sectors will be at its atmost productivity by disciplined financial social system.This is efficient than a corona protocol of mask, social distance and sanitizing.Bcz, the fact is that people are already obeying wearing helmets, paying current bills, paying tax, making vehicle insured, recharging cellphones, paying tickets, but, why dont they develope a habit of repaying bank loans???. That is bcz of govt lazy policy towards banks only.Thatswhy govt should change, not banks.

I do not agree with vies expressed by your guest because, Though he claims it was his organisation which recommended to the then Govt to so to say nationalise banks back in 1960s, he should tell why then there were string and long lasting protests by bank employees( all private) after nationalisation was suddenly announced by PM India Gandhi against this decision? Can he deny that NPAs in most nationalised banks are result of political interference during UPA's rule. I believe his Association is part of the same political party and also competes with contemporary employee unions? Govt is not saying they would privatise all nationalised banks. He should realise that times have changed as regards , trade(international), global political scene etc. So conditions prevailing for our country certainly are not the same as in 1960s. Consequently policies need changes in line with global changes just as his Association wanted changes in banking sector then.

Today public sector banks have most of the debt because they were careless. These types of employees are also one of the reasons why psbs are in bad shape. They neglected the increasing bad loan effects in psbs and tried to delay recognition of bad loans in public sector. This is what they will get for jeopardizing their own banks.
@josephjames859
@josephjames859 3 года назад
Not true. The mounting NPAs are due to government interference and pressure. Vijay Mallya got his huge loans without proper collateral because of his political influence. The govt. Regulator, RBI, was fast asleep when he was mismanaging his business and diverting the funds. The second reason is that it is left to the PSBs to implement utopian schemes such as Mudra loans. The government wants the banks to be liberal in issuing these loans so that they can counter the opposition attacks on unemployment. If the PSBs are privatised, our young graduates will lose a major source of employment. Private banks like HDFC and Axis run up huge profits by underpaying their employees. There is large scale exploitation of their employees. Privatisation will lead to debilitating economic inequality in society eventually resulting in violent protests and naxalism.

@@sujithkvarghese5616 The pressure in a software industry is very much different from what bankers experience. Your management will never work against your company's interest. The government does in order to garner votes. Agricultural loans are routinely written off. In fact rich farmers delay the repayment of the their loans until a drought year when it will be written off. You refuse an education loan and the very next day the local politician with his thugs will vandalise the bank. Private banks employ hoodlums to ensure prompt repayment. Govt banks have no such option. No bank employee wants his bank to the dogs. It is the callousness of the government that is responsible for their downfall. They were never compensated for the losses they incurred during demonetization. On the other hand private banks made a killing by aiding illegal exchanges of banned currency and got away lightly. Anil Ambani owes a fortune to the PSBS. He has declared himself bankrupt. The government is not going after him because of his clout. There has been no effort at all on the part of successive governments to run the banks properly. The employee are mere stooges in their hands. Their intention is to run them into bankruptcy and then sell them. A couple of private banks like LVB, YES bank and CSB have gone bust and the share holders hve lost everything, but nobody is talking about that.

Irresponsible son will sell the assets which has been earned by our parents, grand parents by sheer hard work on contrary responsible and sincere son will add more to the existing asset and also strengthen the existing one. SO I AM LEAVING TO THE VIEWERS ABOUT MODI WHETHER HE IS IRRESPONSIBLE OR RESPONSIBLE.
