Relatives see you being tall and fair skinned and they say that you will be doing good in your life. These kinds of things boost your confidence. The same is true for the opposite too. People shit on short people or dark skinned people and reduce their confidence. This is one of the worst things of our society.

But more pertinently, Comparison was done with those African nations that are poorer than India on per capita basis. It will be interesting (I would believe the richer African nations would have an overall much lower stunting statistics as compared to India across the board, given their genetics) to see how does India fare against richer African Nations.

Diet plays a bigger role, especially over generations. The average height in Netherlands in the 1800s used to be around 5'8" for males but over a few generations they grew to be the tallest country in the world, mostly due to change in dietary patterns. You see this very clearly in middle class households in India now where the kid is at-least 3-4 inches taller than the parents. The only thing that changed is dietary habits and sanitation.

Maybe it's because parents don't repeat the same mistake that they hv done to their first child.

Actually I think the video was really wrong...and I don't from where did these researchers collected data... Because in my observations weather it's a girl or boy I have seen that second and third child are always taller than first child in India...In my entire life I haven't seen a single siblings in which the younger is shorter.... And secondly where u were wrong is that the chances that second and third child in Muslim family is not stunted as compared to Hindu family... But, in my observations I have seen that usually this stunted pattern of growth in consecutive siblings is mostly seen in Muslim families... And generally, there is high gender discrimination in Muslim family as compared to Hindu family...as per what I have seen personally...due to high no. Of kids on an average Muslim families spend less on their daughter as compared to sons... Since the younger child is more competitive and their parents are able to feed them properly, it will outshine elder in height (because of competitive nature).
