Why are some of us so unhappy?

John is half Russian. When he went to Russia in his fifties and discovered his own people, he found that they thought and felt as he did, and understood why he'd often been so miserable. Russians take life seriously and, in particular, the phrase, "Jesus suffered and so should we."
Did you know you can now listen to John on Spotify and other audio platforms? Here is his most popular recording 'Common sense guide to meditation' (1m views) - ffm.to/commonsenseguidetomedi....
For your free copy of John's poem 'Clouds' join John Butler's email community here - spiritualunfoldment.co.uk.
Those wanting more detailed accounts of John's life experience - the formative influences, which have taught and made him what he is, will find it in his 7 published books, available through the website: www.spiritualunfoldment.co.uk/store.

@TheWorldTeacher Ah, so they pushed him into doing these videos, even though most of what he says is pretty stupid?! Yeah, makes sense. He made a self-deprecating comment that's all. That's his humility. The man's obviously great, his videos have had millions of views and mountains of praise in the dozens of comments sections, so it seems more likely it's just you that doesn't get it. Funny someone who thinks he's stupid would've watched him enough to be able to rate his comment!

As a deeply depressed person, I wish I could ask John: Without immortality, what hope is there? I feel like a child who needs a reward for suffering. I cannot help but long for the assurance that John has with another world, where I experience a painful doubt.
@ottomansdream7676

Pain is nothing but our state of mind.. As a human we have this things in ourselves that we want to tell people how painful life we have, how i have suffered. Not to get the answer or clarification, just to let them know that how much suffering you have.. Be grateful for the things you have. You have a place to sleep. Food to eat. Electricity in that place.. You can read.. Then brother you come in 1% Try to take of some time from this online world. Leave your phone at home and go outside. See the world. Because you get what you search. Search pain you will get it. Search happiness you will find it. It you who decide what to search for.. Salam(peace)

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yvGVRN24ec4.html Watch this to experience that emotion which you are missing in your heart. That love, that peace. Because its a word of God. And who can understand his creation better then the creator? And Remember one thing. Bowing in front of the God with all your pain, Tell him everything that how cruel this world has been to you. How they have deceived you after gaining your trust. How they break your heart. How they left you alone.. Because he will remind you again. That he never asked you to love this world, He asked you to love him. And only there your heart will find peace ♥️ Just and only in the remembrance of The Most Merciful ♥️

Sorry about depression and suffering. I can't really find a reason at the end of the road. I don't know how it is for you, but I can't get excited and willing to get something down the line. I don't even have an existential dread of deprivation of ultimate permanence and purpose. But I am lucky in that sometimes I can find a reason to be willing and glad to be where I am on a certain road. The reward is a feeling in the present, not a thing in the future.
@LordLoss
@LordLoss 4 года назад
There is always someone who has it worse than the suffering person. Comparison can invalidate any suffering, by pointing to harsher flames, and turning the knob slightly more toward horror. And to claim that the depressed person is only so because they do not experience enough gratitude for having worldly things, I can both understand and yet become confused by since it is precisely the world that a person must resign themselves from as not being enough. Only a person who understands the pain of doubt can understand me. And if the solution is to be found in the present senses, then I wonder whether heaven has sense or not; at least consciousnesses? But are not our common senses of the world and not heaven? I am Not unfamiliar with being disappointed in my own doubt, and I am thankful for the sincerely of some of the comments. If life is suffering and “not it” as John says, I wonder if this is enough to relinquish doubt. Some say faith requires doubt.
@88tongued
@88tongued 4 года назад
@@LordLoss I really agree about comparisons. Yes we need to keep our priorities straight on who to help in what order, but people often see expressions of suffering as competition where the worst cases should win an everybody else should shut up. I think all suffering all along the spectrum of severity is real and one person complaining doesn't have to be seen as at the expense of someone worse off and therefore something to be spurned. I also like to be as aware as possible of my efficacy to make change and my agentive responsibility when I question that it's not in my hands to change things for the better. Yet when someone is looking to "responsibility" in a blaming fashion rather than just as an awareness of what you can and must do, then it's not good to let that negativity in. But I often forget this and wallow in shame

None of us are going to get off this planet alive, we all die at some point. So the way I see it, we all have two choices, go through life miserable as sin, or laugh at the absurdity of it all, either way we die at the end of it.

Galileo Those thoughts have run thru my mind and expect that it has run thru EVERYBODY’s mind at one time or another. I don’t think that we only have two choices. I don’t go thru life “miserable as sin” nor do “I laugh at the absurdity” ...I do both and SO MUCH MORE! Everyday is rich with opportunities and I try to use my time on earth well and drink it up... I am a mother of 11, married to my farmer husband for 40 years, a Registered Nurse, Hospice Nurse, Labor Delivery Nurse, an artist, a gardener. Lastly, I also am also a woman of deep faith. Having been part of both ends of the life spectrum and I give you my word... this life is a dress rehearsal for a more important journey.... And it’s going to be great!!!
@50shekels
@50shekels 4 года назад
Mother I wouldn’t want to be a person of faith. It’s really constricting. Life has so much more to offer than following a strict set of rules. It’s unfair to the major chance we have been given, to throw it away on that. One should seek out their own glory and do their best to further humanity. That is everyone’s true mission

It does seem like misery to me also, and the hard lessons make us wiser! I try to do everything I can to improve my life despite the horrible obstacles, and decide what I can and cannot control! John always comes back to his religious beliefs that give him peace! Glad you are listening to John’s videos, and perhaps we will find peace, and love

You must be very tired of it by now; I hope you relinquish it soon.

@@houndpound4212 Such unwise and unsensitive thing to say. There are so many levels of sufferings and without some of them humans would not be humbled, purified and ripe for deep levels of spirituality. Many great teachers hails suffering as their best teacher. Moreover, if you had any knowledge of trauma and the nervous system you would not have said this. Regards Mikael

I've been enjoying Mr Butler's videos a lot. I found them relaxing. Not so much in his message, but how he delivered it. But now I get the sense he IS getting pushed into doing this a bit more than he was expecting perhaps. I wish him well and hope he's not being exploited in any way.

As much as you may not be inclined to speak to us in your videos I believe your sharing of your experiences and lessons you've learned will bring many people to conclusions it took you years to find a lot sooner, and for that I am grateful. I may still have some suffering of my own to do but your insight has changed my outlook on life so much, perhaps I will have a bit more strength to bear it. Thank you much, you silly old man. I am happy to see you smile after all your suffering. ~Jacob
