The reason bayo 1 looks brown or faded is because their was a time where that filter was popular like in Resident evil 4 or dead space. There is a dope video titled “remember when every game was brown” that really gets into it.
I'm so happy you mentioned Helena Taylor. Yes Platinum is a Japanese company, but I feel like Bayonetta was intended to be appreciated as a posh, sassy British woman. She reminds me of a caricature of Lara Croft before she got rebooted. Excellent video editing skills as well dude!
Fun Fact about the voice acting for the Bayonetta franchise: as you said when the first game was made they only had English voice acting. Hideki Kamiya once said in an interview he didn't think a Japanese woman could capture the personality he envisioned for the character. So the team developed the game exclusively with English voice acting. When Helena Taylor recorded for the first game she was using concept art and hand-drawn frames that were being used as stand-ins for the not-yet-done cutscenes. It wasn't until the Bloody Fate anime movie that Hideki consented to Japanese voice acting. And he was surprised the cast worked as well as they did, so when Bayo2 was being developed for the WiiU and Bayo1 was getting ported to WiiU they brought back the cast from the anime movie to record for the games. Helena Taylor was the OG voice for Bayinetta, her voice recordings back when the game was just hand-drawn concept art helped shaped how the character acted and looked when in screen. Without Helena Bayo wouldn't be the woman she is today.
@@villaniousmustache4898 Platinum took her role away and gave it to a new VA because they want to change Bayonetta (the character and the games) and wanted to give her only cameos as the former Bayonetta and she got mad about it. That's the real story. If I was her, I would have been mad too, she made a fool of herself though.
Helena Taylor was the best Bayonetta. So sad she didn’t voice Bayonetta 3. And yes I know what happened. Bayonetta was also my first hack and slash game but it was so fun! I was first introduced to her in smash as well. The music in this game is beautiful as well. The climax music is such a bop!
B3 sucks so much now I'm actually happy that she didn't voice her so the REAL Bayonetta will always remain the only Bayonetta in my heart. That Bayonetta wannabe (I'm talking about B3 not Viola) that Platinum created will never be my Bayonetta.
@@shizukagozen777tf? Jennifer hale isn’t some “bayonetta wannabe”, she was hired to be the voice of B3, and Helena was offered a part and she was too greedy. I loved Helena’s voice too, but I don’t support her actions
14:48 I've always loved the throwback to Okami with the way the Panther form has flowers trailing behind. Fantastic video, I really hope it takes off for you as a lot of effort was clearly put into it :)
@@shizukagozen777For as much of a kook as Taylor is, she brings the character to life in a way Hale never could. Her direction and delivery in the original is especially top tier; she's good in B2, but the character overall just doesn't have that same sultry sexiness as she did in the first game. That's Nintendo for ya! 😂
@@TriforceWisdom64 That's not because they said to make the Link outfit sexier that they have nothing to do with those decisions. They're clearly responsible for Bayo's tone down and the overall changes in the game.
Love this video so much!!! I thought no more people are still remembering this iconic game. I mean GAMES! Both series of Bayonetta games are fantastic! I believe that you are a Bayonetta fan. Better do more promotion so that people at least know this game or maybe be exited for the third installment. Bayonetta 3. I hope every Nintendo fans are inspired by this comment. Thank you so much for making this video. I will never get bored of watching it. Keep going!
what i liked much more about the first game was the atmosphere, very mysterious and the fact that you are much more alone gives you more a intimistic sensation.
No idea why I stopped receiving notifications, last time I thought you went on a short break so great to see you back.. but great to see you dropping fire content too🔥🔥🔥
Hahaha, this was such a fun and entertaining video GPS! I can see already the improvements on your editing and the way you showcased your observations! I should probably give Bayonetta a try if I can! Great job man!
Bayo 2 is one of my favorites, but I think DMC5 is the BEST hack and slash of all time. Also I like a lot God of War 2&3, Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma and NG2. Bayo 1 is still also too good.
GPS WHY IS THIS VIDEO SO GOOOD, editing is amazin and you made brilliant points and I want to give the sequel a try now, but as a dmc fan you know what I have to say... play dmc 3 and 5 cause they will show you how amazing action games can be, cause dmc 5 has the best gameplay in existance. Also just saying that 7 hours is an average length for a character action game, they are designed to be super polished so they can be replayed ver and over again on higher difficulties, in comparison dmc 3 is about 9 hours and dmc 5 is about 11-15hours. Well anyway, amazing video man, legit this was astonishing and you already know what to play next :)
At last someone pointed out her idle and running animation......as much I love bayo 2..... I was constantly thrown off by these 2 animation.......though bayo 3 has a very cool idle animation
Dude thank you so much for the kind words, blows my mind to hear that! Haven’t played ultrakill yet, but I’m definitely going to look into it thanks to you. Have a fantastic day! ❤️🔥
Many points you outlined are true but when it comes to review the game by a gameplay standpoint, it clearly shows you never went into an in depth analysis of Bayonetta 1 and even 2. First and foremost, Bayonetta 2 gameplay is way less free than Bayonetta 1's, because without witch time you can do barely anything and for getting the highest rank you need to use repetitive tactics and/or specific weapons most of the time, while there's nothing like this in Bayonetta 1: sure, using certain weapons in Bayonetta 1 can make your life much easier but you can beat the toughest enemy by using the weakest weapon and still get the highest rank. There are many flaws in the enemy design which make the action on screen not so much clear sometimes. Also, if you don't know anything about the genre you can't entitle your video like this, make it simple and say "I loved Bayonetta 2" or something similar. Bayonetta 2 isn't the best h&s ever made when titles like its predecessor, DMC3-5 and Ninja Gaiden 1-2 exist.
Dude this was such a great video! The editing has gotten super slick and I laughed out loud at so many points. It was super funny. Really good breakdown of the game too. I've always liked the idea of Bayonetta but have just never given it a shot. But damn if you're not convicing me to try now. Amazing job again man, super proud of you!
@@rohansensei5708 Bayo3 best combat? What? Its actually the worst of the trilogy. You cant see sh*t most of the time cause you're a tiny ant in the middle of the clusterf*ck that is happening on screen. Bayo3 was a cocktail of terrible decisions
Bayo 2 isn't better, not by a long shot. It's more casual, but for the hardcore fan... It's a massive downgrade. A lot of things actually became worse in the gameplay. Witch time, enemy patterns, enraged mechanics changed, the way you gain magic is changed... Bayo 2 is a better spectacle if you don't linger. To people who like to master action games... Bayo 1 is way more rewarding.
I think 2 only has it in art style and music. Maybe plot. The rakshasa nerf was miserable, I'm convinced AI blocking cannot be avoided and just wastes time, on top of what you said. As a good masher I immediately hated the change in 2 as well lol. Was glad to see all the random stage hazard jump scares removed too.
The Bayo games have been on my backlog for… a very long time. You’ve convinced me to pick them up before 3 releases next year! And thank you for the lolz right off the bat - that Metroid Prime 4 reference at 0:25 was very needed 😂
You've done such an excellent job with this project. It was really nice to see you tackle it and have fun writing and making it. Great passion, exciting editing, really standout jokes. I have faith it can only go higher!
Honestly I find bayonetta dodging system to be the cleanest and smoothest dodge that actually makes a difference unlike other games. Even without witchtime.
16:21 Let me tell you Platinum LOVES their buttatn mashing. In Wonderful 101 (a great game BTW, similar to Bayonetta and a lot of fun) the final botton mash is insane. To be fair you were stoping super ultra Khamemameha from krashing in to earth but still that was rought.
I think I might be the only one who loves the mashing buttons style lol. Like, fighting Jeanne was a breeze every time she went for that. I played both Bayo 1 and 2, and I still prefer most of Bayo 1 gameplay mechanics. Bayonetta 2 felt too slow to me, and when I realized they limited the Megaton/Gigaton meter going over the maximum limit, I felt slapped in the face... Altough I have to admit that Bayonetta 2 is more smooth than Bayonetta 1, I felt like even using Gaze of Despair 24/7 wasn't enough to haste things up. Well, at least it was really easy to Pure Platinum the game. Little tip for ya for any smashing button event in any game: use both thumbs facing the nails of each other while holding the controller lightly, but firmly enough to have support, and finally, smash the shit out of your controller's button lol. Seriously, my X button is a little irresponsive because of this, use sparingly. This little method works best with Xbox and PS controllers.
Hey GiantPokeSpyro, this is a bit off-topic, but is it okay if you could do a video about my favorite character Jin from Xenoblade Chronicles 2? I was confused about who he was during the game. And I was confused with his relationship with Torna and the other characters. Love your videos.
Thank you! I’ve gotten a couple requests for Jin actually! One of my favorites as well, definitely considering making a video on him in the near future.
Really wanna get into this series now because of this video. I’ve been trying to get into a lot of new franchises recently, such as Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Persona, etc. I’m definitely adding Bayonetta to my list now. Great video, keep it up!
I like how with each Bayonetta she learns something. In the beginning she could only summon parts and they couldn’t really leave the summon circle. Bayonetta 2 she needed to charge some for rapid fire. She could also summon stronger demons and they could leave the circle. Bayonetta 3. She can naturally rapid fire parts of the demon, summon the entire thing, and she can control them MID BATTLE, with little recharge time.
The fact that the1st time u hear about her was in smash .makes me sad . U missed the hype of it getting in smash . I lost my shit about bayo and banjo and sora
also i 100% agree with you. bayonetta 1 is dope but it feels so much slower and the color doesn’t pop like in 2 (since it was made for the switch exclusively) also you can use bayonetta’s skin from first game and also get the sword! just wish there was a gamemode that gets harder and harder the longer you play (like bloody palace in DMC)
That no hit speedrun part ? That is precisely what people who prefer 1 play for. I consider this to be the "true" game. But that's where people who don't like Bayo 2 take their complaints from. I'm gonna be real, but there is a big wall between two types of people who play these games. From our POV : Why is Bayo 1 dull ? Because of careful game design. Bayonetta 2's extremely bright colors melt together during high paced action which make them less visible, nullifying things like the big flashes that are supposed to tell you an ennemy attack is coming in a clean way. It is a pro, not a con. As for the "feels good" aspect. It's because some parameters were changed, such as the buffer, and the fact that Love is Blue, the main weapon, is a faster weapon. Except it doesn't mean anything when you play the game "correctly", because Love is Blue's damage is lackluster, can't stun, and that other weapons are slower. It's a change made so that people who experience the game without really trying to go "deep" into it or for a big amount of time feel like it's improved, even though mastering 1's gameplay is enough to not feel that at all to begin with. If anything, 2 is the restricted ones, because the ennemies of that game limit your options MUCH MUCH MUCH more than 1 does, breaking their armor doesn't mean anything here, you cannot stun them correctly either, even combo strings designed for some effects ( launching, sweeping ) don't work anymore. Bayonetta 1's combo strings do have specific uses for some of them that is just not the case anymore in 2, making them restricted to one thing for optimal play. The previously mentionned ennemy issue also makes it so that combos ( ACTUAL combos, not just the strings ) literally don't really exist anymore because ennemies are almost garranted to break out of them unless you use the bracelet of time ( which kills the game anyways ) because this game is extremely Witch Time reliant to go through these insane defenses consistantly, but, hahaha, Bayonetta's witch time is barely 2 seconds long in this game, while it lasted 8 seconds at most in the previous one even though it's a game that is designed to be played without it. + The ranking system itself limits you a lot into one playstyle. The enemies are seriously the biggest pain in the ass. Even in a chapter like the Arch, on the first group of demons you find, you can barely even hit them reliably using the whip. Why does no one notice this ? Because they actually hide these mecanical flaws in the last difficulty, letting some slip in hard, but none in normal mode, and it's obvious that big fans of the genre usually aren't attracted to normal, BUT, they make for most of the niche aspect of this type of game, and are obviously a minority or a silent group compared to what makes this game popular. As I'm moving forward in this video. No, the only use for magic in 1 was CLEARLY NOT Torture Attacks. It had huge crowd control utility along with very high magic gain speed. 2 has reduced magic gain, and useless magic use that is not Umbran Climax. Jeanne's mash QTE was never forced on you, you could just ignore it. *The "problem" of Bayonetta 1 is that it's a high skill game to understand how to play and fully enjoy, which means the average person who wants to just press buttons will not get where are the downgrades in Bayonetta 2* And I personally consider a BTA game to be rankable ONLY by having these high level possibilites, why, because when an action game only needs you "feel good" as you don't really know what is happening to be good, then the bar is, not to say low, but not so hard to reach, and any averagely designed game could end up being considered just as good. Like, if you don't consider what the "no hit speedrun" man has problems with, then suddenly, a weapon that in this game does no damage, stuns nothing, leaves you open like hell can be considered good, because the moment you don't push a standard, there is no need for something to be good or bad anymore. Ah. And finally. The challenges being the only content ? The short duration leaving only replays ? That's the indication that this game is made for this. It's this type of game where it's made to be replayed and become better at. In other words, the main focus is these people trying to no hit speedrun. Not to say anyone can't enjoy it. But all the careful design decisions are not made with people with 8 hours before putting the game away.
@@squibbtastic7589 um only Dante but all of them have less combos and variety than Bayonetta. I think Dante rebellion has technically like 4 grounds combos? Lol plus the cancel into other strings is much more fluid than dmv.. Dante is cooler but Bayonetta has more to flow with.

There's no reason to ever go back to bayonetta 1 outside of just trying it out. 2 is so much better in every way its a night and day difference and I say that as someone who still enjoyed Bayonetta 1
Uh…I mean, it’s more bayonetta…if someone loves bayonetta there’s every reason to play it. It’s not like going back to dmc1 and 2 compared to 3, 4 and 5. It’s not THAT night and day, plus many big combo heads prefer bayo 1’s combo capabilities and weapons a bit more.
