Hey everyone, I made a massive mistake in this video. When talking about the story and characters, I say skip to the time on screen if you'd like to avoid spoilers, but no time is shown. My bad! Please use the timestamps in the description box or on the video's progress bar! Sorry, thank you, guys. Skip to the presentation!
I remember someone asking Kamiya on Twitter if he was disappointed that Bayo 2 was being developed for inferior hardware. Kamiya responded asking if his mom was disappointed for having an inferior son.
Gotta love the story where Platinum comes to NIntendo with the alternate costumes based on Nintendo's characters, expecting to be denied for being to sexy, and Nintendo said "Nah we want sexier."
Honestly that really did shock me. I've started to hate Nintendo the older I get.. that was a seriously cool move on their part. Now can they release a pokemon game that doesn't look like a shitty Nintendo DS upscale?
I think it's because Nintendo knew dam well that no matter what they could do they could never make it a kids game or something parents would let their kids play with permission so they just went fuck it and went all in with the adult themes they also probably realised that the over the top adult themes where one of the reasons the game was so popular
@@cathyas3749 Gamefreak is literally a fake shell corporation comprised of Nintendo employees.. so No. It's still 100% Nintendo. They say that so dumb people like you will go "BUT THEY'RE JUST A SMALL INDIE COMPANY!" - HURRRRR no
Some other RU-vid commenter asserted that Nintendo's direct involvement brought the company into grown-up territory (I don't think "pubertize" is a word).
Judging by his necklace, Loki's "Incredible Cosmic Power" involves summoning the spirit of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh in order to be really, really good at playing a children's card game!
If Bayonetta 3 was after a big Time Skip.. Jeanne: [sees a card fly past her] Who dares...? “I hope you don’t mind a helping hand, dear!” Jeanne: Do you even *shave* on your own... Loki?
What are you talking about? Loki's necklace clearly only has 3 sides, which makes it _completely_ different from the Millennium Puzzle. Teflon Kamiya does it again.
Shame it plays so infrequently, Fly Me To The Moon played constantly in 1 but Moon River is barely used in the sequal. Wish they got more milage out of it as its one of the best songs in the series.
It's crazy how supportive Nintendo was for Bayo 2. Nintendo is pretty notorious for being pretty strict on who they grant their seal of approval to. I'm glad they were though. Bayonetta is such an amazing series.
I wish I could say the same I personally think all of the new character redesigns are awful, especially Bayonetta I also never understood why they redesigned the characters. Cuz it was so distinct when Bayo 1 first came out, and it looked so cool and it makes me a little sad that we throw these designs immediately after the first game I don't have an issue with the idea of redesigns in general; I just think that they should have saved the redesigns for maybe after the 3rd or 4th game as to let the original design settle in instead of changing it right after the first entry But if you like the new designs, that's okay. This is just my opinion and how I feel
@@J_U_D_G_E_M_E_N_T Gameplay-wise, the redesigns are optional aren't they? And even DMC changes Dante's look for every game while having costumes (in older games and DmC). I'd probably be annoyed if the default felt ugly to me, but the designs aren't thrown out. Heck, even Smash has them so it is likely that we'll get Bayo 1, 2 and 3 looks for the next Bayo game at least.
@@thelastgogeta fair point However, I would like to point out that in the Bayo 3 trailer Bayonetta is shown with her Bayo 1 design. I wander why is that
@@J_U_D_G_E_M_E_N_T We'll find out if it means anything in due time, there has never been a bigger reason that "because character felt like it" for someone to look a certain way and it is a really old teaser at this point so accuracy may be less than usual. I think it would be misleading to make the Bayo from the teaser someone else, but we've had some bait and switches on smaller and larger scales already.
@@J_U_D_G_E_M_E_N_T At this point it's all theories, speculation and conjecture but, I've heard many theories. One that stood out for me was that Bayo 3 might be an alternate time-line where she didn't go to sleep for 500 years (this Bayo being the child Cereza that hangs out in the first game and learns to be brave). One of the reasons for this speculation is that the Cereza in the trailer has no mole. Some people think that possibly, Cereza got the mole after she made her pack with Madama Butterfly (the creator has a head-cannon that Cereza or witches, I think, get a mole when something of significance happens in their life). This would also explain why she's struggling in the fight, additionally, at this point, the Left Eye has not been awoken either. Again, it's all speculation but it does give a good reason why she's in her outfit from the first game.
there's a whole ass twitter account posting the daily status of bayonetta 3. It's just the same "there is no news." picture everyday, but when news does come up, it'll be there.
@@aox7507 If so, I'd dig them having a Mordecai to unite around since his channel has had a big collab between speedrunners, lore channels, voice actors, guide makers and more. Not sure we could do it without reaching into enthusiasts from other PlatinumGames games, but sitting on your hands waiting for Bayo 3 and Project GG in Discord is boring.
I still think there’d be no greater tease than giving all the straight male gamers the sexiest leading female in all of video games, then having her be lesbian for her best friend and rival in the game.
I really wished you mentioned that if you wore the Star Fox costume for the jet chapter, the segment just becomes a Star Fox level. I never play that chapter without cosplaying as Fox McCloud
30:08 what if we were both the last survivors of the Umbra witches, initially running after each other in a cat and rat game, then through our rivalry we found companionship, we became to care so much for one another to the point we fight angels and live together, went to literal hell to be in each other’s arms again and we were both girls 😳😳😳😳
Now we wait for Bayonetta 3.... any day now.... annnnyyyy daaaaayyyyyy noooowwwwww (Here's the whistling of wind and see's a bunch tumble weeds, with strands of hair in them)
Personally, I think that Nintendo does not know who the main villain would be so the because Bayonetta has already killed 2 of the 3 gods and she is not going to kill her own so I do not know where they can take the story.
@@MrMidnight007 some franchises are built on the main villian constantly using supernatural entities to keep up with the hero, granted they are all sorta friendly franchises like Kirby and usually sonic the hedgehog and bayonetta's bosses require alot more detailed designs.
My favorite bit of unspoken storytelling in Bayonetta is, Ok you know how Rosa’s Lipstick was a thing in 1 and 2? In Bayo3 French Rosa, in the city of Love, is wearing Balder’s monocle. It is very much a blink and you’ll miss it, with Rosa actually being identified by the veils, chains, and clock tower of cursed souls but it is there, unspoken but still a present and deliberate part of the design
Nintendo DEFINED how a publisher should work with their development team. So many games are ruined by the publisher nickle and diming the devs and breathing down their neck. Nintendo really just stepped back and allowed Platinum to make the game their way. The results show for themselves. Bayonetta 2 is arguably better than the first which was already a high bar to surpass. What's funny is it runs smoothly at 60 frames and 1080p on the WiiU which was considered underpowered. While I think I still prefer the first, I think they are both the greatest 3d action games out there. Every aspect of it shines.
Guess Nintendo still has the right company culture, a culture which takes pride in their products instead of playing buisness games and playing for market shares and biggest income with the most scummy behavior. Hope that they will stay that way forever.
It's rather disappointing that female characters & their friendships with each other are no long valued, particularly when they're young and attractive, where a certain segment of the internet without fail will automatically interpret the relationship through the lens of "Girl on girl is hot". I mean how exactly would your idea of a meaningful platonic friendship go between two women who essentially grew up together as sisters & have shown ZERO romantic or sexual interest in each other across two games despite having every possible opportunity to do so? Kind of strange for a character who isn't remotely shy about expressing herself sexually don't you think?
A note about the lyrics to the main battle themes. Mysterious Destiny is from second person POV and how she's looking for victory over/freedom from Jubileus. Tomorrow is Mine is first person, showcasing how Bayo has gained her own agency and freedom after the events of Bayo 1
One thing i really love about the story is, this said with minor spoiler warnings, the cheesy motivational final lines are belted out by baldur, it gives it more weight when the end truly happens, and just feels more fitting for the character to me.
I’m so glad you’re talking about this game! This game was a huge reason why I got the Wii U when it came out! And this game did NOT disappoint! Fucking amazing!
"We have a bayonetta sequel where things are going to be more ridiculous and sexual." Nintendo: "Yes." Nintendo subsequently provided the chips and salsa
It's wonderful watching these videos Sphere Hunter. Especially now that Bayonetta 3's latest trailer has dropped and the internet is on 🔥 again for this magnificent Queen and Platinum's usual masterful work.
Let me take a moment to thank you for these videos. During the course of this year, I've binge-watched all of your videos. You made me get into resident evil, DMC, Bayonetta, bloodstained, haunting ground, and Darkstalkers. I would have never taken the chance to try them if it wasn't for these beautifully edited videos. Thank you! Edit : Grammar
Really appreciate that your thumbnails have been so consistent through out your game reviews. The artists behind these works of art are truly incredible ❤
The reason we see inferno as a forest in Bayo 2 is because both Bayo, Jeanne, and Alraune willingly chose to die or otherwise go to inferno. And in the Divine Comedy, suicide is punished by becoming a tree in an infernal forest. We're only seeing one side of inferno, and it reflects the 3 main characters that are in that part of the story. Also when Rodin dies in Tag Climax he's incased in Ice, referencing Lucifer in Cocytus
Just gonna say that Suzi's / Sphere Hunter vids are always so nice to watch because of how much work goes into them and so much passion (for lack of a better word) being shown. Plus she is funny and entertaining too ^ ^
I honestly love that there is someone who gives Bayonetta so much thought and love. I actually prefer 2nd game aswell - the only bad thing I can say about it, is the lack of dance sequence after credits :P.
I love the fact that you are always so documented when you do these presentations. You even take the time to say what some of the most hardcore fans of this type of gameplay perceived as regrettable.
I still love how we've gotten more info about Elden Ring than we have about Bayo 3, and yet the former fan base acts like they've gotten nothing at all
Your title card is incredible, the artist absolutely nailed your "peering over your glasses" look Awesome review and history. Keep up the good work, and thank you!
Came back to this video after already having watched it multiple times, and making me fall in love with Bayonetta, after stumbling upon Bayo 3’s trailer. Let’s just say I’m very hyped for it :3
18:49 Fun fact: there are quite a lot of easter eggs in the two games that kinda solidify this theory. A few examples are an artwork of Dante playing poker at The Gates of Hell with Enzo, Antonio Redgrave also existing in the DMC universe -since Dante apparently took the alias Tony Redgrave as an homage to him and also the fact that Rodin apparently creates Bayo's weapons in the same way that Dante gets them. The only thing that makes this theory impossible is the obvious difference in design of Malphas, since in all of his appearances in Bayonetta had a design that was pretty similar to Griffon's while in DMC5 he was an horrendous amalgamate attached to a featherless bird.
I _really_ like the lack of 'super mode' in the first game because when you get really good at the game and you've unlocked a lot of things, there's this wealth of things to use magic on! It feels good to be consistently invincible with the Butterfly, or to rack up crazy combos with Sergey's Lover's clones, or to constantly spend smaller amounts of magic on Tetsuzanko, Heel Stomp, and the Umbran Spear, allowing for quick ways in and out of combat with no effort in exchange for some magic. On top of that, when you have a grasp on the combat, you'll almost ALWAYS have plenty of magic, and I always feel like I've got an infinite amount of Tetsus because my need for them never outweighs my usage! On top of that, combo points. Throwing around Torture Attacks is great as a casual player who just wants enemies dead, but requires very careful use when you're going for good ranks, as the damage always outweighs the combo points if you don't know when to use it. Umbran Climax _immediately_ introduces a hierarchy. It's no longer "what am I spending magic on for this battle?", it's now "ok, what am I doing _instead_ of Umbran Climax?"... ...and the answer is usually "Oh, nothing. I'm just using Umbran Climax." There is almost NEVER a reason to use Tetsuzanko or Heel Stomp or Portal Kick or Witch Twist, spending three orbs of magic for _one_ Wicked Weave, when you can just get UC and unleashed about 20 of them. I think another 'full bar' alternative to Torture Attacks could really work! But just not the way they did it in this game.
Yep, they would need to redesign Torture Attacks to maintain their utility in a Climax world and a separate meter is one possible solution though not one that addresses how Climax breaks the scoring as it can stun and kill the screen. I still want a super mode in Bayo (the mecha is something) but it should be closer to Devil May Cry 1 (taking the essence of a weapon for elements and a new look - you can see this in Bayo 1 during weaves) than trying to make Serious Mode present during the whole game.
@@thelastgogeta I would be into something that kept the Infernal Weaves, but didn't add more Wicked Weaves! And maybe each Infernal Weave could have different cool effects, like better knockback or better juggling, or just anything that adds to new cool ways to play the game. And at the same time, casual players who just want some more damage and some flashier stuff would still get that use, just like how Torture Attacks play into casual AND complex play!
@@Iinneus I don't know how much of it is Kamiya's witchcraft or dumb luck for basically every game he directs to have really good balance for the core gameplay even if they have quirks. I'm still not sure what can be done for Infernal Weaves besides making them a 50% meter option which works for one attack (players decide which one to cash in on, the big screen clearers are at the end of combos) but maybe multiple of them could be possible if you fulfilled some criteria... No idea if it is just having the right accessory or something like exchanging another built up meter... Yeah, I'm closer to thinking that Umbran Climax should be tucked into a separate gauge than other actions like Torture Attacks right now.
just making a lil note here cause i love watching you talk about stuff you're passionate about and you're one of the best examples of what I'm trying to build my channel up to be
1st - So glad you're back Suzi! 💕 2nd - That "hetero life partners" joke had me snorting from laughing so hard! 🤣 3rd - It's very interesting to me that the names "Madama Butterfly" and "Chernobog" were used in Bayo 2, as both have a unique corellation some might not realize; Western European classical music. Madama Butterfly is the name of the famous opera "Madame Butterfly" (aka the original Miss Saigon), by Italian playwright Giacomo Puccini (he also wrote La Bohème-- the original and better version of RENT), named for the Japanese protagonist of the opera "Cio-Cio-san" (pronounced "CHO-CHO-SAHN") which translates to "Madama Butterfly". While the name Chernobog is believed to be of Slavic descent and name of a pre-Christian, pagan god... more people might know Chernobog as the name of the elder demon that is depicted to look like The Christian Devil from the segment titled "Night on Bald Mountain" from Walt Disney's Fantasia movie (or one of the Summons you can get in Kingdom Hearts if you're a gamer, and not familiar with Fantasia). "Night on Bald Mountain" being the name of the piece of music used in that segment of "Fantasia", originally written by Russian composer Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Someone at Platinum Games must be a fan of Romantic Period classical music.
The thing with Umbran Climax is that more casual players can have fun with it, while more skilled users can decide to not use it in favor of racking up combos. I think it's a win win since it's not required to advance the game.
One of my favorite little details about the game is the fact that Bayonettas shadow is a shadow of Madama Butterfly because Bayo sold her soul to Madame Butterfly. This game takes what made that first game so good and just make it better. I agree that umbran climax makes the game a bit too easy in a sence. They should have locked it behind a combo barrier or something.
It's like that in the first game too 😅 Jeanne has Madama Styx and Rosa has Madama Khepri. It's a shame that Khepri didn't have a full body model bc of time restraints when the game was being developed so she's just in hell, sending us punches and kicks 😭😭😭
YAY! New Suzi video! :D I love hearing you talk about games you love, it's so inspiring! Bayonetta being a "Nintendo character" is one of the most bizzare twists of fate a I love it. Here's hoping Bayo 3 news is on the horizon soon
there’s no heterosexual explanation for cereza and jeanne’s relationship edit: the people in the replies trying to argue against this harmless head canon are weird :) edit 2: these people are STILL going, plz go outside y’all 😭
Oh, you think Bayonetta and Devil May Cry take place in the same universe, Suzi? That’s cool, but what about the other games Kamiya’s directed that crossed over? Bayonetta, Jeanne and Rodin are playable in Wonderful 101, Dante appears in Viewtiful Joe as well as Trish, and the Pillow Talk weapon from Bayo 1 is used by Waka from Ōkami. It’s all connected, my dude.
I've watched your bayo 1 video a while ago and now I get a newly update of bayo 2 video which is just as amazing and informative. What a blessing. Love your content.
I was first introduced to Bayonetta through smash and I found Bayonetta 2 at GameStop. I thought I’d never put it down! It was my favorite game of all time and when Bayonetta 3 was announced I purchased the bundled edition for switch and loved the first game too. I’m so happy to be introduced to this great character that’ll always have a place in my heart 💜
Sphere Hunter: In Bayonetta 1, the Shotguns and ROcket Launchers were kinda just there... Me, sweating, remembering I pick those weapons ASAP and never ever change them afterwards.
@@TheSphereHunter I totally respect your opinion, and I mostly agree: the second game has crazier and more interesting weapons, which I switched more often. But I LOVED handling rocket launchers as tonfas and pelting enemies with explosives.
Loving your videos, your voice is so clean and clear, it really helps me relax, plus hearing someone gush over some of my most beloved hack and slash games is so rare that I find myself getting excited to replay them all over again. (Despite having just replayed both Bayonetta games 3 days ago) Keep up the wonderful content!
She is going to need somebody to fight because she killed the god of light and order and she is not going to fight her own so the possible enemies leave me clueless.
I was just thinking the same thing, after all these years she had a chance to continue to make the character SHE SAW AS HER OWN. And to see how it all went down is crazy. I love this series though and am hyped it didn’t get derailed and it’s coming in just 4 short days!
MY BAYONETTA QUOTA HAS BEEN FULFILLED THIS WEEK YESSSSSSSSS I've been waiting for this video for so long and I am so happy you really enjoyed the sequel!
