Such a fountain of information our senior citizens are.....it's our loss that the joint family system is collapsing, there's so much to learn from them. In fact, all the tips before chewing the leaves that were shared here were what our grand parents, aunts and uncles had told us too. The leaf is also used to perfume thuppa when it is freshly made, for the home. Just before taking the thuppa off the fire one or two leaves are dropped into it. The leaves instantly turn fragrant and crisp. They are removed immediately and given to whoever is hanging around waiting for the treat. What this ritual does is perfume the ghee. As a child I have seen this done by all the elder ladies in our family

I started watching your channel because I was fascinated by the similarities between your language and that of my mother's family, so particular to the region. Since then I've found so much more to enjoy here. Right now I wish I could show you my great grandfather's kit for betel leaf and lime, his adike kathari. He was born in the late 1800s, and he may even have inherited a couple of the components ☺️ the container for lime however, is identical to the one at the start of your video
