Ep. 1 - I would never court Penelope featherington Ep. 2 a kiss Ep. 3 a dream Ep. 4 let’s get married This season was too rushed. I get that the characters are not new but That doesn’t mean that they can’t develop feelings for each other at a slower pace that makes more sense to the viewer. I liked Lord Debling for Penelope they had a very natural connection. The way lord Debling looked at Penelope and spoke with her. He was invested and cared for her

Great summary. The pacing was way off, and cheated viewers out of the romantic buildup. There needed to be an episode between 3 & 4 that showed the building of romantic love versus friendship love.

For goodness sake, Colin was in love with pen from the beginning just didn't recognise it. But he began to understand his feelings when confronted with the rival debling, their first kiss, and pen's own growing maturity where she was ready to challenge Colin.

I think they did this because it would have been expected for the two to get together anyway and part 2 will be about breaking off in a way because of him finding out who she is behing society scenes so...or was the public not aware these two were going to get together one way or another after all that keeping it inside for 2 seasons straight :))

The problem is that in the book Colin spends most of it going over every interaction he's had with Penelope since they were 14 and realising that he always knew that she loved him I was uncomfortable with that love and he did dance with her out of pity as well as friendship so a lot of those inner monologues with himself going through all that wondering why more people don't see Penelope for how amazing she is is lost in the show

Just one scene with Colin going back to find/re-read letters Penelope had sent him from previous seasons - getting to see what they talked about, their friendship, and see him recontextualize his feelings - would've made a world of difference imo, while also providing more payoff to the past 2 seasons of Polin relationship building

The pace was too fast, there wasn’t not enough screen time with the main characters (someone on Reddit said P&C only got 32 minutes of screen time). There were too many side stories and characters. Not enough emphasis on the Bridgerton clan as a whole. There didn’t seem to be any chemistry between the leads. I feel the same way. I have no interest in pen and Colin. Over two season and we never saw WHY Pen is obsessed with Colin. They have nothing in common. To me it's just a first boy crush on the cool neighbor guy. Penelope and lord debling had SO much more in common in the first few exchanges personality, outlook on life and habits. I thought that was the story. The first two season had people who were actually compatible with each other. Colin and Pen don't. It very meh.

@@moniqrupley6019”feelings I guess” is exactly why I ended up not rooting for Debling. @@moniqrupley6019 on the note of the balloon scene, what a great opportunity for the writers to really build that emotion and tension between Colin and Pen after the balloon is stopped. With Lord Debling coming to Pen’s aide so gallantly, the writers had a great chance to push Colin’s character development and feelings for Pen further. But all we got was a “meh” longing look from him. It could have been so much more. Plus a great time to highlight Pen’s connection with Debling further and just overall create more romance.

The new show runner destroyed my fav couple... this looks like a telenovela.. their interactions are childish, vapid and the intimacy and connection isn't there and it truly feels Coin is jealous instead of in love. Which makes sense because there's no reason (from what this part 1 showed us for him to be)... And there's too many unnecessary side stories. You are right, Francesca arch is much better than the main characters and it's going to ruin part 2 also because she is going to be engaged with John Stirling at the same time Penelope will be engaged with Colin so they will have to deal with 2 engagements in the same family... so who are the leads here really?? It's a mess, at times its almost ridiculous like trying the comic relief with comedic music like the audience is dumb and won't get the joke... I don't know what they were thinking but this became a disappointment and some bodice ripping book you buy at the supermarket. sad

Every season should be different because you get 8 different stories/siblings. The idea for this season is that Pen & Colin are childhood sweethearts and that love was always there, they just needed to be at the right place in life. The only thing I miss this season is Penelope & Eloise scenes but I believe it's something that will come in the second part. To be honest, because it's a third season people have unrealistic expectations and everyone wants something else. I wish people would just chill out and enjoy it.. at the end of the day it's only a TV show.

What do u mean "he wasnt interested in the slightest", he literaly says in episode 1 "I seek you out at every social assembly because I know you will lift my spirits and make me see the world in ways I could not have imagined." he always cared for penelope, maybe not in a romantic way, "you're pen, u do not count" as shes always been in his life as a friend but the kiss has made him see her as a woman, and realize that he doesnt just like her friendship but that he would like more. the kiss offers him a different perspective. However, i do agree more screen time wouldve been nice, thats actualy my main criticism of this season, there were too many side plots, which diluted the polin screentime, but i also see it as a way for colin to further realize his feelings. penelope is always following him around and paying him attention and now that she has to find a husband she cant do that, which makes colin see that he missed her, good old "absence makes the heart grow fonder"

Completely agree!! And this is a continuation of their storyline from the last 2 seasons so it’s not that drastic to say he fell for her because he always did love her in a way. Bollox! We've seen these 2 characters for 2 seasons. Did ya not watch the first 2?! This is a continuation, not a stand alone storyline. It's when Pen calls him out for his comment at the Featherington Ball that he has to examine the life he's led in the Ton. He realizes his flippant remark to "the lads" aka bored, snarky, entitled elite men, has deeply humiliated someone he cares for. He says when he apologizes to her that he's got to redeem himself in her eyes. The foundation is there. In 1 season they have to fall in love AND deal with the Whistledown fallout . It's gotta fly, folks! I loved Part 1.

For real, I had no issue with part 1. I actually keep rewatching it like I did season 2. I don't think Collin has lost his personality, he was just trying to be what everyone expected him to be, but in episode three, he is warring with himself and by ep four he decides to completely shed his persona. Of course, I had a feeling people would have an issue with this couple, I too was skeptical before watching season 3, but I have been completely won over by Polin. I think the real problem is the two part split. Rarely does splitting a season into two parts or a final book into two movies work. It makes everything feel diconjointed.

My take on the Netflix breaks is that they are trying to do a hybrid thing so they can capitalize on the “water cooler talk” that big weekly (mostly HBO) shows get. You get weekly videos, podcasts, articles etc and audiences continue to build. Breaking it in two gives a bit of that but you also get to binge some. While there are plenty of Netflix shows that excel in the online chatter regardless of dropping all episodes at once but it is a way to keep talking and build up finales.

I must be watching something completely different, pacing felt just fine because Colin and Pen have been close in many scenes prior in season 1&2, so there not starting from scratch. Seemed like close friends finding out they both care for each romantically which has awkwardness. Some of the audience is use to the plot of total strangers meeting and falling in love magically but not the way the love story is awkwardly happening between close friends finding they may want more. Pacing is fine but they probably shouldn't have split it into parts.

To be fair to the series' production and the writers, the Polin relationship in the Briggerton universe which is explored in "Romancing Mr Bridgerton" is a massive deal in the series and a major turning point in the lady whistledown plotline. The book has so many details and plot points that are really hard to cut out because if they did, A. the fans would be mad, B. if they were left out, it wouldn't make sense in the main plotline, and C. it would be hard to drive later dynamics and plotlines in the future. Though if we look at the series as a whole we see those interactions throughout the whole series. but yes if you only watch season 3 part one on its own it wont make sense and you will not understand how their relationship got here

At the end of season one I was excited for Polin as a couple, but most excited for the groveling of Colin. Because season two ends and Penelope felt betrayed by Colin and hurt by the breakup with Eloise. Then in the last scene we see her in a carriage with her walls up. The audience gets a huge gap between season 2 and 3 getting mad for Penelope and hoping that Colin regrets what he said. We get to season three and Penelope almost immediately forgives him and mopes after Colin and Eloise. Then the transformation we have all been waiting for is useless because Penelope isn’t confident in her new skin. And even though Penelope and Lord Debling connection was mutual. It’s still another man who is not sure about her and not all in. Also it looks like the rest of the season Penelope will be begging for forgiveness for lying about everything. Which is granted but still doesn’t sit right with me. This is the first time a plus size woman will be taken seriously in a popular romance show. Where there is no constant jokes about her weight or stereotypical characteristic about her shoving her face all the time. But they have to make her beg for a man attention for the ENTIRE show. I know it makes sense for the plot and the characters or whatever, but would it really hurt to make Colin work for Penelope’s love. For a woman who isn’t the beauty standard to have man want her. Not just for sexual reasons but because he wants all of her. Mind and body.

The way the main relationships build in season 1 and 2 it’s like foreplay, like by the time the couple finally comes together it really was a climax that you wanted to happen so badly. As someone who has known more than a few Colin-types in my life, I wouldn't say that the pacing for it from a character perspective is too fast. One of Colin's defining traits is his impulsive nature, he gets ideas in his head that he goes full speed ahead without thinking things through, he did that with marina not evenreally knowing anything about her, his travels, and his acting like a rake but not finding satisfaction in that lifestyle , and now with Penelope, proposing when he just found out his feelings for her. Penelope is along for the ride because her crush and the running out of time with her family, but you can see when he grabs her hand after the proposal that she feels jarred, like this is a bit sudden. So right now, it is infatuation rather than love, yes they had childhood friendship, but again just starting to see her in that light and Penn had just put down the rose colored glasses only to have to navigate this new change in him. Their arc is not over. And not just because of whistledown. During the trailer I was thinking debling would be good for her, but in the meat and bones, it wouldn't have worked for the long haul. Penn was thinking it was all about survival at this point because she thought she had to, but love was always important to Penn, the possibility of not having that in a match would suppress her needs and create resentment down the line. I feel he cares for her more as a friend and that is where their compatibility ends. Their goals in marriage are not compatible. It's like if one person wanted kids and the other didn't. You can't force someone to change their minds on that. While Daphne's season made it work for what they could, in real life, most marriages break apart because of that difference. If debling's feelings changed over time during a courting process that is one thing, if Penn was just out for survival and not love, it wouldn't be an issue. But it is.

Sure that kiss happened in the book but its because you learn that Colin had a soft spot for her since they were kids cause Violet would also push him to dance with Pen at EVERY ball at least once. There's so much that's missing. I wish they held off the carriage scene for after her identity as Lady whistledown was revealed.

Honestly this season wasn't worth it and I would rather stick to my fan fics where the story writing is way better lmfao. I definetly did not expect Colin to become such a rake, it kinda made his character more unlikable to me. I honestly didn't feel much chemistry between them and lol I'm sorrt but there was no passion from Colin's end. The one thing I can certainly say is Nicola is a good actress. And I much preffered John and Francesca's storyline. Imma just stick to my fanfics for now

I loved the first two seasons...but in this season literally nothing happened so far... There are too many storylines at the same time, non of them are developed properly so it makes them dull and boring. All characters seem very different all of the sudden without showing us the development that led to the character change. Also, is it just me or are some of the characters super ambiguous to the point you dont really understand what they want?! Francesca was so badly written, i thought the plot twist is going to be that she is really a lesbian because she doesn't really care about the men (now that would have been a plot twist!) - also I've never seen such an one dimensional character, her only interest ist playing the piano and sitting in silence? ... as well as the bar owners their faces are literally 😐😐😐 the whole time. I don't care about their story at all. I dont have high hopes for part 2. Penelope and Colin feel super forced, they have no chemistry whatsoever!!! /:

Perhaps this season should have focused more on Colin's perspective. We've spent two seasons with Penelope and have already seen how much she loves Colin, so it would have been nice to really experience Colin discovering his love for Penelope. I was waiting for that, "I'm realizng now that I've always loved you," moment, but it never really came. Penelope's speech before the kiss genuinely moved me, but that being the catalyst for Colin catching feelings didn't feel right to me, personally. I guess I just needed more from Colin to make up for all of Penelope's pinning. Oh, well. I'm enjoying everyone else's storylines, at least.

I love the Bridgerton family and thanks to Netflix we got to see them on screen. But I think they messed up with skipping Benedict’s story to rush Colin and Pen happening. It was a missed opportunity, I think viewers would’ve liked to see it in the order it was supposed to be in. Some changes are good, but that was one change that hurt the flow of things. Also, just because something works in a book doesn’t mean it’ll come off the same on screen. I think Francesca carried the season on her back and her character isn’t an ongoing one which is crazy to admit.
@MissKashira

It's because in the previous seasons we got to watch love grow between the characters. Penelope is already in love with Colin, so her love doesn't grow for him and Colin goes from 10 years of no interest to wanting to marry her on the turn of a dime, so we didn't actually watch love grow for him either. And it's not simply a matter of time, it's a lack of convincing evidence. A romance is an argument of why two people should be together. Francesca and John have way fewer scenes but most of us get the argument being made as to why they are a good match. Part of the reason you feel Debling is a better match is because the show dedicated time to making that argument in a way it didn't for Colin. Besides her wanting him, why should she marry him? The show even makes a pretty good argument as to why she might not be truly in love with him. The Bridgertons represent escape from the life she hates, how do we know she loves Colin or she built him up in her head cause she wants to get away from her family? We don't. They failed to make their argument.

It wouldn’t t have been hard at all either, give them a few more minutes during the scene when she reads his travel journal…. And talks about how good his writing is. Also give him a few more minutes of screen time where he talks about his joy for writing and journaling etc. in the book he sees Penelope and realizes that she appreciates him and sort of realizes how smart she is when she reads the diary and they talk about it.

Colin and Penelope were always true friends. I don't think their romance was rushed... If anything, it was a slow burn. Brigertons always go for the "love match", and it begins with friendship. Penelope was always that for Colin, no one else held a candle to her. Season 3, for me, doesn't feel rushed. There are a lot of moving parts, and they all get their shine. It makes a lot of sense to break Season 3 up into 2 parts because we are dealing with Colin and Penelope, as well as the Whistledown reveal, heavily weighing down on whether Colin and Penelope will make it. As far as I am concerned, it's the best season yet. It should feel different... It's more complex and even more interesting.

You have to considered that Penelope and Colin relationship is developed through S1 and S2, and S3 is just the climax of this building up, not of the chemistry, but the love between them, of course Penelope need it to move on from the unrequited love place and put her self together for her self, not for Colin, on the other hand Colin need it time to mature from a boy to a men, that now have to recognize his feelings beyond his family and the society, and even if he created this new character to show off, that Penelope read it right away, this character helps him to define him self as who he really is and want. And of course the kiss was a breaking point, she dared to ask what she wanted only to say good bye, letting him confronted with his feelings and the knowing that she let him go. For me the way this is developed is perfect, and how it takes them both to the point where they have to be honest with them selfs and each other, and now, they are ready for the true love challenge... realize that they have a deepness that is not easy to show to the other and how this is part of every true relationship. I think that part two of season 3 is going to be quite amazing for them and is going to offer for many other characters the possibility of growth.

This season was about Colin losing the fight against what society expects of him. He didn't like or overlooked Penelope because she wasn't what everyone else wanted. So he chose to do what the other guys were doing even though it bored him to death. Not sure why Colin's arc in the first half goes unnoticed especially the way he was whoring around. He has always had feelings for Penelope. He just saw her as his sister's friend until someone else, Lord Debling, made her attractive.

My way of describing this season for me, I don’t picture any of our previous couples on that balloon scene. All their incidents were always connected to their personal problems. Daphne getting in between the dual, risking her life just to save both her brother and the man she loves( but doesn’t know yet). This is the turning point of their relationship, this is where Daphne learns Simon can’t give her children, this is also when they get engaged. Kate and Anthony met by horse riding, they build a connection in the race that so happens to be a horse race. So it would make sense that the moment their feelings crashed, finally coming to the surface (which Daphne had actually warned Anthony about) it’s horse riding. The characters are not only confronting their problems on an emotional level but also a dangerous one that presents real life danger and risk of someone dying. The balloon scene… is just that, the balloon scene. Even the characters brush it off at it was nothing when this is supposed to be the turning point for Pen and Colin. It would’ve been more realistic if pen was put in real life danger, pushing Colin to save her. This would bring Colin flashbacks, how Penelope, someone he loves, was so close to leaving him like his father did when he passed. This a way to further develop the relationship between Edmund and one of his sons, Colin. He would then have dreams of saving Penelope, and those other dreams too, making him realize he loves her more than just a friend. Similar to how Anthony finally decided to be true to himself when Kate was hurt. But no instead we got a lame balloon scene where the main characters don’t even interact after it and another character just uses it as a joke.

I low key wish that they did not discard whatever they shoot the first time around, however dark or different it might have been. This season is much less cheerful in comparison anyway, and it feels very incoherent and like they put it together in rush from edited bits taken from something bigger and possibly more interesting. I'll take very different but genuine vibes over censored halfhearted medley any time. I wish they released the other version they already had made as a directors edition or something.

The setup is similar to the book where a large part of the story happens after the couple gets engaged. It is different than the other books. Also, the first two seasons show their friendship growing to the point where it is clear they value each other, in spite of Colin's boneheaded remark at the end of season 2. They don't need as much development to fall in love as people who don't know each other.

The one really excellent scene for me was where Colin gave voice to the loneliness that’s inherent to toxic masculinity or just cynicism toward romance. I really like the idea that Colin had a revelation, and that he was in a state of “the heart in conflict with itself”, i.e. good writing. I think that was a great tactic, and like everyone keeps saying, just a bit more of that and sitting in that feeling, to not feel rushed, would have been so good. It’s not Colin’s story, though, I think. In the end I think we’re all supposed to be biting our nails at the fact that Penelope is lying to the man she loves, and can’t start a life based on a lie. Maybe that was supposed to be the structure of the season? We got a Colin catharsis and arc and then we’ll get a Penelope arc for the second half?

I didn't read the books so I don't really know how the story goes there, but in the show i think they made Collin actually unsavoury this season. He was portrayed as a sweet and considerate guy in the first two seasons just to turn into a shallow man in this new one. I don't know, but in my point of view, being this boastful-all-women-want-me guy doesn't seem to be the type to attract Penelope at all. It feels off to me because if i was in her shoes I'd be very turned off by this change. So far I was hopelessly cheering for her to like Lord Debling and be with him instead 😅

I think approaching this season without paying attention to Polin’s relationship thus far does make it awkward and rushed. Looking back- they always seek each other out and enjoy each others company. Both of them being introverted makes things more nuanced. I was disappointed on first watch and then going back and paying more attention to Colin, specifically, I appreciated it more. Colin's sudden "let's get married" in episode 4 reminds me of Season 1 with Marina. It seems impulsive and naive. Part 1 feels like a lesson one learns, hurts and heals from on the path to your great romance - rather than being the endgame. I also feel disappointed that Penelope basically begged him to kiss her etc. From the trailer, I thought Penelope was fed up with her life, tired of waiting for Colin and ready to be serious - to put frivolities behind her. I expected Colin to grovel, big time. I don't know, I'm just not feeling it. Colin seems confused (but stubborn) and Penelope desperate. This isn't a "healthy" dynamic so far... It could grow into something more mature, but I wonder if it will be given the space to breathe required since there seems to be a lot of drama on the horizon with Penelope's hidden identity and Elouise being upset about the pairing. I also feel that Colin's proclamations of why he appreciates Penelope has more to do with how she makes him feel than just...her. Her values and interests and personality etc. Like you said, Lord Debling seemed to appreciate her more as a person than Colin. They were equals. I hope part 2 shows Colin really getting to know her for once in a meaningful way, and falling in love in a mature way. I'm unsure about how Pen is going to grow in part 2 - she definitely needs to improve her self-esteem, but that shouldn't fall on whether Colin loves her or not.

here is my take: I think .. if i am being HONEST... it was a tough sell to have Penelope be the MAIN this season. this is a show that relies heavily on hot scenes and chemistry. To choose a character that was kind of a villain AND always the one who isn't seen as attractive to the world she is in - with all th!nner girls being chosen over her.. hence her jealousy .. - as an audience you can chose for yourself if you find penelope attractive, but to chose her as the main person we are now going to focus on after everything was building that she is the snake among everyone, that was bound to be a bit divisive. for me, i don't really want to see her get al hot and steamy with someone. it just doesn't sell to me. and i know i might get booed for saying that.... But i am being honest here. on top of that you have a VERY rushed romance with a bunch of side stories - probably BECAUSE they knew the penelope love story wasn't that interesting maybe? OR because .. i think they are leaning towards her downfall in part 2. the truth about her will come out after he already chose her - maybe even married her. it will feel like a huge betrayel - cause lady whistleton /whistledown was someone he wants to ruin! so how else is it going to end? i suppose he will forgive and forget in the end but maybe this season won't have a happy ending....

I will be posting this on multiple accounts across social media, so if you see it again, I apologize. This is a cut and paste from a long post I wrote. I liked it for the most part and the acting was so good, but I've read a lot of different posts and from what I am gathering is that a lot of people are disappointed that it fell short. And after decades of reading romance, I have to agree. I felt that if they were going to stray from the book that they give freshly hurt Penelope a successful glow up with internal work on her confidence as well as the outside. She could do this while she was away in the country for the summer with relatives and somewhere away from Portia. In the book, she did the glow up before she saw Colin. Where it could stray is that she had popularity when she got back and had so much interest from men that Colin, after his apology, could help her CHOOSE a husband (like Anthony did with Daphne) out of the many. I would have preferred this rather than to teach her how to be "charming" in the middle of his toxic masculinity phase. Colin was telling her not to care what people thought and she even said she only felt comfortable talking to Debling because she was feeling so low that it allowed her not to care. So she had to feel like complete shit to not care and feel comfortable? THAT WAS NOT CONFIDENCE...that was defeat. Colin said she didn't need lessons. Also, in the show, he said he was giving her lessons because she didn't have a male relative to help her. It would go along the same lines to help her choose a husband...because she didn't have a male relative. They could have met to discuss who was suitable or not because Colin knew these men and could sort them out for her instead of "lessons" of which there were only two? Eventually, after the kiss (brought on by Pen overhearing someone talking about what a turn off bad kissers were and not wanting to be one of them-or something like this), Colin, who lost his mind, would start weeding these other suitors out on purpose, leaving her with almost no one. Hence the carriage scene and proposal could go exactly like it did (loved it and wouldn't change a thing). I was saddened to see that she was so desperate that she was going to marry a man, Debling, who was going to be gone for years at a time and admitted that he loved his work so much that he probably wouldn't be able to love her. Which made her look desperate. And all this after loving someone who didn't love her back for years. Poor Pen. This amazing woman built an empire out of a gossip column before she even came out into society at 16 or 17 and even already had the queen drooling over it when being presented in her first season. Pen teased the Queen on in some of her papers and that could mean death. And she avoided detection by her own family and the Queen's detectives. Even her best friend was fooled for a long time. She has got major lady cajones! Realistically in the Regency period, she wouldn't have even been able to attend all of those balls and parties if she wasn't out in society (neither would Eloise). She would have never had anything to write about. But let's put that aside. Going forward, she somehow, at 16, got enough gossip to be able to write an intriguing column that people wanted to buy, navigated finding a printer, used her pin money for start up cash, negotiated terms, engaged the modiste to avoid detection, mastered distribution and got very rich from her endeavors. This was hard enough for a man to do in those days let alone a teenager. She had to have had quite a bit of confidence in order to even start the paper let alone make it successful before she was even allowed to attend a ball. Even slipping away unchaperoned was a feat in itself. She is the ultimate girl boss. And I don't think that a lot of modern day women watching Bridgerton understand how monumental this was to do pre-technology. Now it's a few taps on our phones and we could have most of this done in a couple of days or even hours. Also, she had enough self awareness to know that she wanted to look better and feel better to find a husband. She knew she wasn't confident talking to men. As the ultimate strategist, I think she would have worked out how to get around that shortcoming. Why not make the glow up epic and inspirational? A fun montage at the beginning of season 3 would have been amazing. I think a huge opportunity was lost to inspire women who may be lacking in confidence (or other things) to improve on themselves both physically and mentally. To make themselves good for themselves. And that with focused attention and practice, they can overcome almost any obstacle. Especially when adversity hits them and they lose their best friend, the man they love in one fell swoop and their family is total crap. They can retreat, lick their wounds, glow up, slay their dragons and come back and slay at life. I wanted to see Pen rise from the ashes. It would have been so fun to watch her be popular after all of her hard work and her genius strategizing. And not to be competing with Cressida over a man. A man that she really didn't want but was settling for. A man that didn't see through Cressida's tricks. A man that acted coldly to Penelope when she made mistakes when she was trying to compete with Cressida at the balloon scene and later at the innovations ball. That was major ick. Also, another thing that was shitty was when Eloise wanted Colin to stay friends with Pen because he was probably the only friend left. How insulting?! If Eloise can hang out with Cressida, why couldn't Penelope have had other friends? This would made Eloise have a little less power over the situation. And Eloise said that looking for a husband wasn't "like Pen." It was Eloise that didn't want a husband, not Pen. Also, I would have loved to see Fife make a play for Pen and for her to reject him while his Toxic Bro Squad laughed at him. And the other two that were dicks to her this season, they could have also shot their shot for her and got humiliated. It would have been another reason that Colin dumped them for trying to horn in on his woman. I am heart-broken that Pen didn't get a real glow up. The Wallflower didn't really get to bloom. She blooms when she gets swept up by the man who finally got his head out of his ass. She bloomed because of a man "teaching/not teaching" her toxic lessons she did not "bloom" of her own accord. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ On a side note, there is also a lot of disappointment that 10 story lines were stuffed in and it didn't feel like they were main characters at all. There were 4 episodes at 50 minutes each. The story lines were: Kanthony, Francesca/Kilmartin/Samadan, Violet/Anderson, Queen/Danbury, the Mondriches, Benedict/Lady Tilly, the Featheringtons, Eloise/Cressida, Cressida/Parents and finally Colin/Pen/Debling. That along with eye candy and filler was a lot to stuff into 3:20 hours. I wanted more of Pen and Colin. In my opinion, for that many story lines, we need at least 1.5 hour-2 hour episodes. I love Shonda and I think she is a genius, but most of the things she has worked on have been series with 20 slow-moving episodes in a season. Having multiple story lines keeps it fresh. With a tiny mini-series like Bridgerton, there is just not enough time with the main characters. We all want more of Pen and Colin (and all of the romantic leads).

If you've read the books it is very faithful, except the added drama and love triangle. There is not tons of material for the main love story, it is pretty uneventful, except Colin being a whiny jealous baby man. Lord Debling is vapid, he bounces from Cressida to Penelope at an awkward word, he won't ever love her and doesn't even care to try, his criteria for a wife Is dutiful woman, that's all. The chemistry that was built up through all the seasons with Colin and pen finally pays off and people would rather flip flop and pair her with a carboard cut out of a man. What do debling and pen have in common? He hates gossip, the ton in general and Penelope is a literal gossip columnist. She has no love for the outdoors, his only perk is he will leave her alone...so romantic.

You know what would have been perfect for season 3, if they had structured the entire first half with 60% of Colin and Penelop's relation, 20% of Kate and Anthony, mainly how they are navigating their marriage, 10% Eloise and Penelope's friendship, 8% Benedict's story because he is next obviously and 2% of other things mainly Francesca's debuting. The other things are just bonuses like the Featheringtons. Anything else was totally unnecessary. In my mind this would have made the story so much better. The show's name is Bridgerton for god's sake. Just follow their lives. Netflix did the same thing with Witcher also. They showed everything except for the stories of the Witchers.

I think it feels rushed because of the book. If you have read it then it kind of makes sense.

They should’ve started the book plots in part one, they waited until part two and crammed the better writing into 4 episodes instead of pacing it out

I think it felt off because people are so used to the slowburn romance storyline from seasons 1 and 2. The "getting to know each other" stage. But, I think people are forgetting this is an entirely different formula; Polin already knows each other and their "slowburn" has been taking place over 2 seasons already. So we don't need the "getting to know each other" moments like with Daphne/Simon and Kate/Anthony. It'd be redundant at this point 2 seasons later between 2 people who have a years-long friendship. And their romance potential has always been there. I've seen many fans make the argument that proves that and list out how they've hinted at the romance for a while now. It really just narrowed down to Colin being too slow to realize his feelings. 😂 This season is just seeing him finally realizing what's always been between him and Pen and being like, "Oh my god, wait a minute...!" But, I do agree there were too many subplots and there could have been more focus on Polin to make this more clear to viewers who haven't watched seasons 1/2 or haven't rewatched it. But, I'll hold off on TOTAL judgment until Part 2.
