I don't know, Legion never seems to put up much of a fight against an army of rocket launcher television-sets on wheels.

I always enjoy encountering another New Vegas scholar. Just so you know, yaboii has made an excellent video about how the Legion would win if the Courier never survived Benny. Very well done, very worth a watch. And yes, the Legion is poised to win if the Courier doesn't intervene, but they will never really last beyond Caesar. Three scenarios out of four, Caesar dies or is incapacitated by his brain tumor by the time of the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. The ending slides depict Lanius as a terrible successor to Caesar because of his brutality. For as cruel as Caesar is, at least his policies bring stability. Lanius only offers an endless military march until he is stopped. Like Marcus in Jacobstown says, the Legion follows Caesar, not Caesar's ideals. Once Caesar passes, the Legion will burn itself out burning the world to the ground. Perhaps someone shrewd like Vulpes might follow in Caesar's footsteps, but good luck to him getting support in a society which where marital might is prized over cunning. Marcus has witnessed a grand faction put to a screeching halt once its leader is removed. (See Fallout 1's Master for more details) He knows that the Legion is not much different. The future of Lanius's Legion after Hoover Dam and Vegas is another meat grinder against NCR. In the Mojave, the NCR's campaign there is rather frivolous. It is akin to the pointlessness of the US campaigns in Vietnam and Afghanistan. Every year, for five years, good NCR men and women were sent into the Mojave to die. Be it lack of supplies or poor planning, NCR recruits have died for it. Any decisive support like the best of the best Rangers were wasted chasing ghosts in Baja. Good, competent officers like Colonel Tsu and Chief Hanlon are overlooked and ignored while egomaniacs like General Oliver or Colonel Moore trade NCR lives to cover themselves in glory. The point is, NCR never had a good reason to devote their all into the Mojave campaign. But once they're pushed out of Vegas and are facing a Legion invasion on their land? That's a different story. An existential threat like the Legion would be a good kick in the pants to take them on really seriously. NCR would put up a fight. A much bigger one than the one in Vegas. Once Hoover Dam and New Vegas falls, all that awaits everyone is a bigger NCR vs Legion war. And war never changes. Perhaps things might be better for the Legion if the Courier takes the Legion path. There, Caesar gets a new lease of life and will most likely bring brutal order to the Mojave. But Caesar is *old*. Best case scenario, he gets 20 more years to live. It's just a reset timer until the scenario pictured above. Unless... Caesar spends that 20 years grooming an heir. An heir that just delivered Hoover Dam to him perhaps.

The legion was destined to win because of the DLC really. Ulysses was going to fire the nukes at the NCR before the battle of Hoover dam till the courier showed up.

I respect this video, and while it is certain without player intervention that the leigon will win the battle, they most certainly will not win the war, as evidenced by the fact that the leigon itself will become overstretched if it takes the Mojave and pushes any further. This is evidenced by the fact when you side with the NCR you can speech check Lanius telling him that the leigon will become overstretched if they push further, he will then pull back and the battle will be won. Thus indicating that Lanius finds truth in the couriers words and decides to play it safe. Furthermore as evidenced by Joshua ghramn, the leigon will fall without ceaser sooner or later. And without player intervention he will die of a brain tumor. This is all to say that they will likely never be able to push into California significantly before a succession crisis hits them or they are pushed back. Adding to this, the leigon will decay quickly as after they take the Mojave they will likely run out of major sources for slaves which appear to be the backbone of their economy.

this is a very good and observant look into the victory of the legion which does make sense if Caesar stays on as leader because he's know to wait and rest at his new Rome capital new Vegas but under lanius it would end with the legions long term defeat

I am no fan of the legion but I feel like most people don't understand the NCR and how flawed they really are, they are barely better ethically from the Legion

This take is so hot it burned through the baking sheet. The weak state of the NCR in game reminds me the Union in the civil war. Where you have a faction that's only struggling because it's fighting with one arm behind its back. The bear is sleeping. If legion did somehow win the second battle at the dam they would face a cornered bear fighting for its life against an enemy that shuns long range weapons and medicine. Whose leader dies with out player intervention. All that begin said, I still appreciate the devils advocacy.

Does Caesar state where he will head after the NCR threat is passivised, if Legion ending is cannon, which I believe it is. Where would their new front be? North, South or East? What stops them from heading north, east they have the Midwest BoS, and what stops their movements south?

I want a new faction simply called “The Geckos,” who just tame geckos for battle.

I feel like if we remove the courier from the equation as a whole ceaser, it would really be dealing with the NCR and House, considering that house being the ever savy business man he is, would more than likely back the NCR if he felt like there was a chance they could lose, and as to why he would back them well, the legion is bad for business, so in reality itd be more of a legion vs NCR and protectrons

Ever try to take down hevally armored legion with a service rifle? In the immediate 2nd battle of Hoover dam, without courier intervention the legion would demolish the NCR with the raw power. after that it would be a bit speculation.

NCR loadout M16 6.1-7 pounds, 556 cal 300 meter effective range for troopers and 500 for rangers. Grenade 5 m kill radius 15 meter injury radius. Keep in mind it's a shrapnel injury so you are pretty screwed in most cases without advanced medical care. Tourniquet and ifak, 30-90 rounds Rangers probably have more ammo and NVDs There supplys are bad in the Mojave and they never are seen carrying a pack. Based off the damage values for there armor it's ballistic weave without plates which will only really help against low level rounds in a small capacity and shrapnel weapons. The helmets are really old and worn so they probably are alot less effective. Maybe they will stop 1 lower level round if your lucky Also keep in mind the NCR have very low moral, high corruption and with the high need for duty guards and posts they probably get very little sleep with so few of them at each camp reducing there combat effectiveness along with mandatory conscription, poor chain of command and likely not getting the 3000 calories they would need a day if they are moving and training at all with there gear and training/exercising. I can't remember the pistol but they would be effective around 50 meters, rangers 75 probably. 9mm for less recoil and its faster moving or a 1911 for easy maintenance and high availability of parts. The ncr would also have basic combat medical knowledge but it doesn't help if you can't get to a real doctor or at the least a medic which we don't really see many of. Ceasars legion would also use poison on there weapons, we used to use poison on rounds until it became unacceptable. Dog bites and snake bites would be deadly in the Mojave also. The legion uses healing powder so I think it's reasonable to say they have the ability to treat poison and poison the weapons they use.

Question. What will the legion do against a .50 caliber bmg anti-material rifle shot from a veteran ranger from 20 yards away? I would also like to mention the NCR fighting and winning against the BOS when they had more numbers than what we see in the bunker.

0:40 - 1:05 I disagree, The battle is not designed to be a predetermined Legion win. You are missing the point of the Game. As you have shown, without courier intervention, The legion will win the second battle of Hoover Dam, and take the Mojave Wasteland, but that is not intended to happen. The Legion only wins, When the Courier helps them, the same Idea applies to the NCR, Mr. House, and Yes Man. The point of the game is, that there is no canon ending, you as the player decide who wins. Relegating all this down to " A gameplay mechanic for story purposes" only serves to undermine that point.

With the Legion’s primitive technology and tactics in open warfare, Hoover Dam would always be a Pyrrhic victory over the NCR. Caesar’s inevitable death beforehand and Lanius’s involvement would ensure this but the odds are still against the NCR’s favor; and with everything in motion against them they’d unquestionably lose their grip on the Mojave. If Hsu and/or Hanlon survived they’d basically ensure the NCR doesn’t head back East for a while. However, Lanius evidently cannot lead diplomatically and the Legion would fall apart shortly after their victory in Vegas.

They win most skirmishes in the random encounters between them and the NCR also. Im guessing it is because the npcs, and companions still have accuracy penalties with guns while moving and strength requirements. While troopers meet the strength for service rifles and pistols, guns are affected by movement accuracy penalties while melee weapons are not, unless thrown. The only time the ncr usually wins the engagements are when they meet in such a way the ncr can aggro on a single target first or when the legion has spear throwers.

The Legion would definitely win with Courier involvement (especially if the Courier aligns the minor factions with the Legion and helps the Legion fortify their strongholds), but I have trouble believing that the Legion would win even _without_ Courier support. Their tactics and strategies may have improved since the First Battle of Hoover Dam, and their numbers may have swelled, but they'd _still_ be going up against NCR troopers armed with semiautomatic rifles and NCR veteran Rangers armed with high-caliber rifles and revolvers. The fact that the Legion would be severely outgunned is enough to make me think that they'd lose the battle. They might get relatively far into the Dam itself, but the NCR would be able to drive them back, probably before they even approach Boulder City.

Without the Courier, the Legion likely wins the Second Battle, but loses the war. The Courier is decisive not only for the battle's outcome, but also for how much blood is shed in the larger war. The NCR would ultimately win in the end, but the cost...

5:22 "NCR soldiers can be seen socializing, smoking, drinking Nuka-Cola" Just look at the Legionary sitting behind that tent at the Fort and you'll se him chugging and entire bottle of nuka. Go behind those crates near the weather station at the Fort, theres a Decanus smoking. Socializing? Dont make me laugh. Well if you consider saying "Patrolling the mojave blah blah balh" as socializing then saying "the slave girls are quite beautiful" and "Ave true to caesar" is also socializing.

The Legion's odds of winning their short term goals such as the dam and Vegas are high, but the issue is the Legion winning their long term goals without player intervention. With Caesar's death, Lanius would be able to win their immediate battles - but I doubt he would have the cunning to take on the NCR in California or even maintain current legion lands. From dialogues, it seems the Lanius just doesn't have the proper temperament and self control. Caesar himself thinks Lanius doesn't understand the Legion's goal. Lanius disbans the Frumentarii and Vulpes if Caesar dies (which I would argue is the main reason they are in such as strong position to begin with). Lanius killed a merchant's brahmin solely because it was in his way, if thats how he treats merchants and others, a revolt or infighting from other higher ranking Legion members would play out. Caesar needs an Augustus, and Lanius isn't the man for the job.

Caesar's brain tumor says they don't last long even if they do win the second battle at Hoover Dam. Just like the other factions they are pretty dependent on the couriers help if they want any sort of sustainable future.

I respect this video and like legion as a faction a lot :D but im not fully support this but yeah i see this is potential outcome. I believe legion maybe take over dam, vegas and the whole mojave with high casualties but Legion tecnology is poor and limited, they have numbers but most of factions in west probably unite against Legion, Legion not accept all potential ppl, creature, robot etc in its army or ranks, they dont have any sort of airforce, advancet tec etc. legion dont accept advanced medicens, weapons, etc. They are pretty poor equipped in real (like theyre chest Armour is Literally parts of American Football covers, and maybe some sort of motorhelmets (yes there is advancet armours like centurions have atleast for some parts are but most of theyre army are not well equipped )& maybe 1 biggest concern and problem in Legion is theyre overwhelming belife for theyre mighty Caesar, player can get information about that Legion is only loyal to Caesar, Lanius and other leaders are only Loyal to Caesar and everything is around theyre mighty Emperor Caesar But Caesar is dying and if player dont take action there Caesar dies because he have braintumor and Legion probably broke in to civil wars between each Slaved tribe factions eventually when ceasar is dead. Also player can inform Lanius in 2nd battle that even if legion wins its starts Stumbling like NCR at the moment eventually it dont have manpower to control everything and expand at the same time and when Legion is weak its for sure that everyone who are near the Legion Borders or in occupaid by Legion start revolt or attack it. Throughout history we have evidence for this 1 of the most famous in Real life history is fall of Roman empire. To be fair they only win (in the story of NV) if the courier helps. In the other 3 they just lose… So if you consider the NCR ending, they own the strip, if the chip is used and securitrons activated they could be used, along with reinforcements which would 100% be deployed there with the Hoover Dam. Not only that House mentions the defenses that shit down nukes, so they would have a massive fortress near the dam as well with even more civilians/gangs to be drafted dependant on your side mission choices. Yes man/House , the NCR are gone for now but again Vegas still would be inbetween the 2 factions so the NCR are safe in that way, plus the robots can clearly travel great distances so the courier/house would see the great threat from the legion and exterminate them, the game engine prevents the amount of robots that are under bunker hill, it seems to be a production facility of some kind soooo… Infinite death robots with missiles, grenades, smgs and gattling lazers vs roman cosplayers with axes, spears and rifles… it would be an utter massacre.

The NCR is an industrial superpower and the Legion is afraid to use medicine on their sick and dying. The NCR's sorry state is to put them on equal footing with the Legion. If the NCR is truly in as bad of shape as you say, why hasn't the Legion displaced them yet? Why does the Legion hold off on attacking? It's an intentional part of the writing in the game- the NCR at its worst is still a sufficient match for the Legion at its best- that's the whole point.

Good analysis of the battle Havent seen a video that actually breaks the specifics down like this I like how you dont say they will last, but simply that they will win the battle lore wise due to the tactics they showcase being much more competant and NCR being much worse Though a mr house or courier ending would probably see them fucked once the securitrons come rolling out at caesats camp doorstep Realistically, the courier couldnt single clear out a whole intake tunnel of leggionaires by themselves. So the only way legion loses is if mr house or courier ending occurs due to the securotrons at the legion camp

I dont see a bunch of dudes in football gear armed with muskets and spears taking out a missle equipped robot army lol and gotta think most likely all the strip factions / families would align with mr house as well which includes the van graffs who could arm everyone with laser weaponry. And they have no chance if hiuse and ncr fight together. And willing to bet that house will be prepared for legions return more than ever most likely creating more secuitrons

A lot of these videos make the mistake of presuming the actors in New Vegas would be completely passive without the Courier. As if House, Benny, Father Elijah etc. would just stand around doing nothing: impotent without the courier intervening. But this isnt Skyrim, the actors arent awaiting the chosen one to appear and save the world.

Idk b after my playthrough Vulpes had been merced in the first encounter, they had been nuked, the fort had raided and everyone inside including caser was killed.

The Legion just makes a lot more sense for the Mojave. The NCR can stay in California, where things are easier for the people and some sort of an old world republic can really be established, but the Mojave is too far gone for that, the Mojave is for the Legion, and that's a good thing because they can serve as the civilizing force. Albeit a *brutal* civilizing force, it's what they needed to be, and it's what the Mojave needs.

Without player intervention yes they will win the battle but Caesar will also die and with him the leadership the legion needs I don't believe the NCR could lose an outright war with the legion on their territory its basically the NCRs vietnam

on most of my playthroughs i sided with the legion,i know ceaser is abit of a dictator but atleast he is honest about what he does,the ncr is milder at the lower end and the middle end but ones you get to there leaders they are just the same dictators as ceaser is they are just more pretending like they are not and i realy dont like people who pretend or beat arround the bush. its kind of like the american goverment atm and china atleast china is honest about playing dictator(i know its not that black and white but it is what it is atm),annyway i choose the legion because there honest about what they are only part i dont like about them is that they have slaves.

The legion has always been my favourite faction in any game. It’s brutal, efficient and cruel. But I honestly think that it’s the only true way to rebuild the world with some basic order. NCR would just eventually repeat old world mistakes. If Caesar dies, Legate Lanius would easily take up the mantle of Caesar.

Without player intervention the legion will end up winning by default but i doubt they can be able to push the NCR any further outside of the mojave without running into logistical problems

that is true and all but they follow Caesar and if he dies the Legions ideals are transfered to Lenius but ... for all his Zeal and devotion to the legion hes not a Diplomat hes a military man and takeing ceratin decisions and crucial ones is not one of his strong suits so in the end the legion disolves due to in fighting and dominance over power and thus like any other great empire .... like the Mongols .... with Gengis Khan and so on

Legion has exactly the same problems that NCR has, militarily. They're just new to the party. NCR can't hold Hoover because they're spread too thin. "The Legion can take objectives, but they can't hold them." NCR has crazy political corruption. Legion is a cult of personality. "Does that sound like an elected official, or a dictatorship?" NCR has minor infighting between Rangers and the brass. Lanius and the "old soldiers" hate the Frumentarii. The list goes on. The only difference is that NCR's civilians actually have a quality of life. Most citizens *like* being citizens, they're just pessimistic about Nevada. Legionnaires have to be brainwashed into hating their tribal system, and don't know any better standard of living than having to scrape together bladed weapons and making do with busted tech (if any). To say nothing about how 50% of their population absolutely hate the Legion, and the massive slave revolts just waiting to happen. The Legion is a military, not a government, not a society. Once they finally hit a wall - whether that is a military so entrenched they can't break through, or the Pacific ocean - they're going to collapse like every other military slave state does. Whether Caesar or Lanius or Vulpes are alive is irrelevant to that fact. Blind obedience can't feed your soldiers or pacify your slaves.

Im gonna be realistic the legion due to the lack their occupied land i dont think they would make it in the long run. Theyre to focused on fighting and not much else it seems. Im gonna be realistic with you chief their whole do or die attitude is what will end them. They kill to many of their own men. Scince were talking to the leader and die hard men we only hear whats good. Id bet there are multiple rebellions and uprisings. Word dont spread to quick via runners. Id be willing to bet all the gold from the sierra mare things havent been good at home. Regional commanders are probably to scared to tell ceaser the news. Proof joshua gram he was burned for that reaosn.
